Santa Teresa 1796 Solera Rum
Sip it neat after dinner or stir it into an Old Fashioned and it does its job nicely: vanilla, caramel and soft baking spice over a light, round body, with a little wood on the short finish. Several tasters find it tasty but a touch thin, and it reads sweetened. One member calls it "a decent, no frills rum" — fair summary.
- Smooth and round
- Vanilla and caramel
- Easy entry rum

Aggregated from 284 community reviews.
Smooth, sweet Spanish-style everyday sipper Most find it smooth, sweet and easy with vanilla and caramel, and good value. The recurring catch: it's a bit thin and light on character, and the sweetness covers a slight burn.

Very pleasant nose. Lots of sweetness and a little wood. The palate is as sweet as expected but its not clogging. Think wood covered in caramel. The finish is shorter than i'd have liked but for the time it's with you it's got a nice dried fruit and biscuit notes to it. Overall, a good rum that would make a great gift.

No wonder this rum won the 2010 International Rum Expert Panel silwer medal. A great rum at an affordable price.

Going deeper from Venezuela, dry and straight rum with decent spices and nice balance.

Santa Teresa is considered the premium product from Venezuela compared to Diageo's Pampero and the eternally sweet Diplomatico/Botucal. Venezuela has its own style, which is rather strong for Spanish-style rums. Santa Teresa is probably the most elegant of the aforementioned rums, relying on an authentic solera process.Although the 1796 Solera also contains portions of heavy rums, the nose is very typical of Spanish style rums very light: little distillate, lots of wood and quite sweet caramel - much more lovely than the burnt bitternotes from Guyana. I also find something like coffee dissolved Nutella. In the mouth, the first thing I notice is the sweetness. There is definitely sugar in here. Otherwise, the profile is quite similar: coffee, milk chocolate, sweet caramel plus some coconut. Not unlike a sweet, light Foursquare. In the finish, the sugar glues the astringency shut, and the little bitterness that remains is immediately noticeable in a negative way.Compared to the Don Q Reserva 7, the Zuber in particular is noticeable in a negative way. Although the Santa Teresa is more powerful, the sweetness spoils the impression. It also lacks fruit to balance the wood.

Rond et sucré. Très court en bouche.

7,8:The nose of this rum opens with typical notes of molasses and caramel. Simple and pleasant, it evolves on a rather fat and sweet blond tobacco. It's easy to see how the cask has been burned, as a toasty woodiness gives the whole a firm hold. When the glass is shaken a little, a fairly powerful alcohol takes flight, bringing with it fruity notes and a sort of strawberry candy. This second nose takes a decisive step away from the first impressions, giving way to cane sugar syrup. 7:On the palate, the rum recaptures the character seen on the nose in the opening moments. There are burnt notes of sugar, molasses and wood, with a hint of vanilla. Its texture is very smooth, round and also tangy at times. But in the end, it's the toasted profile that stands out: a slice of toasted bread comes out. 7:The finish is light and easy, like a milky caramel candy... Edit:2.8.25, 12.9.25, as a nice mixer in Strawberry Daiquiri

Good rum, smooth allthough nothing special.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A commercial Hispanic rum, classic and bland. The nose is soft, sweet, caramelized and vanilla, with some chocolate, sweet spices and a hint of dried fruits. In the mouth, we find a syrupy rum, diluted and without surprise. The trio of caramel, vanilla and chocolate dominate on a light profile with subtle woody and nutty notes. The finish is equally short and unmemorable.Terribly bland for a rum that has won several awards in various competitions. It's been a long time since I made such a short comment.

Roasted yummy, sweetness

Light, very pleasing rum. Perhaps a little thin apart from vanilla and a little fruit, the sweetness dominates. Will certainly also be sweetened. For in between as an easy sipper or for starters and at the price quite okay.

Angenehm mild, aber mir fehlt was, das "gewisse Etwas". Andere Sorten haben mehr...Charakter? Seele? Diesen Rum trinke ich gerne, wenn er da ist, aber ich würde ihn nicht gezielt suchen.

Not bad - easy - but honestly not great. I think the main criticism is that it has very limited character / distinctiveness That said, for a rum beginner, looking for a mid type entry, it’s pretty appropriate

Light roasted caramel and a hint of tangy orange marmalade. Comes together quite nicely. Orange amber hue. Very smooth drinking. Maybe a hint of leather. Great subtle complexity.

An uninteresting rum, but one that gluggles and doesn't go overboard. A reference, however, for those new to this passion!

A very accessible rum in an attractive package. It probably could have done with a bit less sweetening, as there is a slight burn going down that leaves me wondering what the dosage is covering up. And that bottle is a touch too tall to fit in my cabinet. But, I'm not complaining one bit here. There is a very welcome upfront hit of vanilla and honey, which is found in both the nose and taste. Then it gives way to that signature peppery spiciness that I've come to love with Spanish style rum, and finishes with a touch of wood and soft caramel. Likely, this rum is going to be a permanent stock for me, even if the wife complains about having that "gaudy tube on the counter." You just simply cannot go wrong with this one.

This ron, from which I wasn't expecting much, finally has something to say. The profile is not surprising, but the nose is quite pleasant: vanilla, caramel, barrel, spices. Alcohol well present, and a surprising smell of glue. No surprises on the palate. We find the same markers as on the nose. The woodiness is bitter and the alcohol is initially biting, before the vanilla and caramel notes take over. I was pleasantly surprised by the nose, but on the palate it's just another basic Ron.

"A very mature and elegant rum that has a lot to offer for reasonable money. A positive example of solera matured rums in the Spanish style"
