8,4:On the nose, hints of soap, smoky, roasted wood notes like bacon, caramel, burnt sugar, cocoa, leather, roasted nuts, spicy, metallic patina, earthy molasses with tobacco, yellow and citrus fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, various fruits join, like dried apricots, raisins, pineapple, the herbaceous, flowery molasses brings hints of peat, vanilla and cream toffee round up all the notes. 8,2:On the palate the attack is derived from whisky notes like peat, malt, musty, mineral touch, dried fruits with raisins, apricots, some coconut, later pineapple, sweet roasted wood notes with butterscotch, roasted nuts, burnt sugar, confectionery, peppery, salty, some dryness crawls in, when the rum is well oxidized. 8,1:The finish is medium long, peated, whisky notes are obvious, dry, buttery with roasted oak notes like caramel, gingerbread, chocolate, nuts, spicy with vanilla, fruity with dried fruits. No idea what to say about this rum. Yeah, that's how it is. Anyway, it's insanely peaty, probably peated, whatever. I don't like these peaty things, it's more for whisky connoisseurs, not for me.

Interesting and good rum from Panama, which would certainly have matured better in barrels other than whisky casks, even though the taste is subtle. From nose to finish, lots of nuts, wood, and caramel. On the palate, additionally coconut and butterscotch.

Interesting bottling that I wanted to test because of the finish. Tried it in Denmark on the beach, not far from the Stauning Distillery. I've been there and looked at the fermentation and distillation processes. So it's hardly surprising what character this bottling brings. The rum from Panama offers a lot of space and few own highlights. If you've had a Stauning and stood there and just smelled it - you immediately find those spicy notes of heather again. I find that very sympathetic, but must also state - rum with whisky finish just isn't my thing. Well-meaning 83 points. And fingers crossed for the Stauning Company - they're in trouble. On the nose vanilla and barrel, soft influences from the aging with the first notes of whisky. They really come through on the tongue, especially the mentioned herbal notes. Tastes just like rum from a whisky barrel.
