The Sauternes finish sounds like it might sweeten things up, but this stays dark and dry. Ashy oak, dark cherry, plum and chocolate with an oily, almost bitter black-tea weight underneath — classic heavy Enmore, just rounded off. The sweet wine shows up early and folds into the finish rather than taking over. At 62% it drinks surprisingly composed, the alcohol tucked in well.

Most helpful positive review
Dry oak and super nice bitter notes from the wood. The herbal note gets stronger on the finish and harmonizes well with blackberry and plum before it. Accented with dried fruit. You can say what you want about double cask aging or finishes, but here it makes a complex, relatively heavy rum round and accessible without reducing its quality. Actually, exactly what a special cask should achieve.

Not even that undrinkable. I had expected worse from Sauternes ... and this series has clearly demonstrated that indiscriminate finishes don't always work. The sweet wine is a little distracting on the first sip but becomes harmonious towards the finish. I would still prefer it without.

I finally got to this rum, and I was not disappointed. It is very dark and sweet, a fruity note I identify as cherry. The sweetness does not overpower the rum, and the high ABV also helps to deliver the taste. The finish brings more wood and some spicyness, which is nice.

Today's test: the Last Cask series from El Dorado RX6784 RX13225 RX13396 RX5449 RX3456 and RX6785. All in all, quite solid bottlings but unfortunately did not quite meet expectations. The pricing in my opinion a bit too high.

8,7:On the nose, roasted oak with chocolate, caramel, burnt sugar, sweet, Sauternes barrel impact is obvious, fruits like grapes, cherry, prunes, berries, thick molasses, flowery, perfumed, some polish, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is vegetal with soy sauce, dark with black tea, earthy with tobacco, nuts, leather, cocoa, vanilla arise, Demerara sugar, some tannins, coppery, sulphurous touch. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is dry with Sauternes impact, fruity with cherry, raisins, currants, grapes, when the rum is well rested, plum or prunes, berries and dried apricots, the wood is roasted with Demerara sugar, mocha, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, spicy with anise, vanilla, peppery, molasses is herbaceous, earthy with tobacco, floral, dark with black tea. 8,1:The finish is medium long, slightly thin, dry and tannic, with dried, tropical, red and citrus fruits, grapes, roasted oak with dark chocolate, nuts, mocha, spicy, caramelized and earthy, herbaceous molasses.

Dry, sharp-edged on the nose. The profile is dark and heavy, great Guyana in itself. Gummy bears paired with dark gravy. Alcohol integrated ok. Nice heaviness in the finish too. But not a high-flyer.

Very individual profile. Port wine barrel arrives on the nose. Pleases me very much. The palate is very fruity but dry at the same time. Finish falls unfortunately short it remains only something astringent.

Sauternes finish is not my favourite. ... Enmore - drive distiller, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden still in the world that is very popular. The Enmore rums have a flavour of ash, leather, heavy wood, which will delight especially the lovers of whiskey. And if in the traditional Guyanese way the producer adds a little molasses to the rum, you have a unique very distinctive and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favourites.

Smell of dark cherry, a bit of damp musty stone and somehow bread. Also fruit tea fits. On the palate nicely dense, oily. Also rather dark and bitter here, a bit smoky. The impression of strong bitter fruit tea remains and goes into the finish. I like it, the comparison without finish would be exciting, unfortunately I don't know any Enmore. The similarity to Sauternes PM is unmistakable, although the Enmore here is a bit more austere. Was nice to drink, but the price is too high. #38:260214
