4,9:Right from the start, the nose reveals a fairly frank alcohol that evaporates and doesn't return. What follows is a great wave of vanilla mixed with sweet spices. This vanilla is extremely present, sweetened and coated like a candy. The indulgence continues with a little milk chocolate. It's very light in flavor, simple but not unpleasant when you love vanilla!On aeration, guess who steals the show once again? More vanilla, for an even sweeter sensation. The candy aspect is now reminiscent of a large packet of marshmallows. The sweet spices are still present, represented by cinnamon. The longer you wait, the more the vanilla fades in favor of sugar, but this rum isn't meant to wait in a glass, as it's more of a cocktail product. 5,5:On the palate, as you'd expect, it's round and very light. A hint of caramel precedes the avalanche of vanilla and marshmallows. The palate, too, is very simple. 4,5:The finish is short, with vanilla, sweetness and a drying finish.

I know the valuation may be excessive, but this rum evokes all my youth and although it is not the best rum in the world I can drink it and enjoy every mix with Coca Cola as from the first day.

A low-end, over-spiced rum. It's undrinkable neat and made especially for cocktails, but even then its spicy taste takes over too much. For the same price, it's better to choose a Cuban rum that won't distort the cocktail.

Captain Morgan Spice Gold? Cardboard-sweet artificial syrup with cheap vanilla flavoring and artificial spice. More sugar than flavor, more marketing than quality. Has nothing to do with good rum. Better to drink something real.

Edit: Now that I mix pretty much every rum I can get my hands on and am looking for the ultimate CubaLibre, I have to say that the Captain is no longer my cup of tea. Somehow I find it very artificial in taste. On its own, it doesn't go down my throat at all. I used to like it in cola, but now it's even too sweet for a rum and coke.

Light pleasant spiced rum, sweet, soft and easy to drink. Also works neat. No idea why many bash it so much. It's nothing special, but totally fine.

The nose is almost correct, with roast, spices and a hint of sake. On the palate, however, weakness is evident from the outset with a hollow mouthfeel, then some aromas appear with caramel and yogurt. The finish is minimal, but not unpleasant. A "rum" that doesn't dare call itself rum (because of the 35%?) or because of the additives? But all in all, a pleasant drink.

Captain Morgen, what can you say about it? It's simply the perfect entry point even though it's not rum. It doesn't really convince on its own; it's mild and sweet, but that also sums up all the advantages for a beginner. It's not really tasty. It goes well in cola if you like that, but I'd advise everyone to get something decent.

Just a spiced rum. Suitable for Rum Cola and conditionally for Cuba Libre. The old bottling of Captain with the old logo had a better taste than the new bottling with the "modern" logo. (My picture shows the old bottle) Nothing for drinking neat!

What better after an Uitvlugt PM 1964 to start the new thousand rums tasted? Surely one of the most known, most tasted rums that got a lot of people started in the rum world (myself included, through hundreds of evenings my liver had to face). Also called Momo in the scene, this drink offers a nose faithful to what you can expect: lots of vanilla and caramel, tons of sweet notes (cola, toffee, nougat, crème brûlée, syrup, milk chocolate), the spiced rum comes out with cinnamon and some roasted notes. You mostly feel the alcoholic and synthetic side, as predictable as possible. Nothing fascinating or deep, that's not the goal. The palate reflects what was said for the nose. You feel the chemical vanilla, caramel, nougat, cola and toffee, it's so sweet it becomes cloying. Cinnamon and milk chocolate are fleeting, the profile is totally dominated by chemical aromas and this structure both syrupy and diluted. It's quite a gulp that goes well with a coke (and even then). Paradoxically the alcohol is a bit present. The finish is as short as tasteless and without much interest, you find sugar, caramel, vanilla and this diluted side, but also a very slightly bitter facet, the only rebound during the tasting. Well, you can't expect much from this rum and it's normal, it's liquid crap quality-wise, but it has sentimental value with all the evenings crossed in my early youth.

Yes, what can you say, people used to like drinking it, it's cheap too. But it's definitely far too sweet, because you have to mix it with cola (there's no other way, is there?) and that's even sweeter, which is just too much.

I've probably drunk more of this rum than any other rum. Oops. A classic with cola and lime. Also tasty because of the vanilla in this combination, but rather less suitable for drinking neat.

This won't be a rum I'd drink regularly. Adding it to drinks or eggnog is definitely possible. For drinking on its own, it's not for me. Seems very sweet and artificial. In the aroma besides vanilla, caramel, nougat, and chocolate there's something I can't identify.

I'm honest... surprised. The bottle just sits on the shelf. And I've learned a lot about rum in the last few months. So it's hugely surprising that the nose is nowhere near as terrible as expected today. Sure, sickly sweet and Christmas baking with butterscotch, vanillin, and co. - but somewhat pleasant. Then the taste is a total crash. Thin, enormously alcoholic and cloying. From halfway through the sip, everything is overwhelming sweetness and vanilla, with burnt sugar hanging over it all. Unspeakably unbalanced. But: with a decent, not too sweet cola and lime, it works far better than expected.

The nose is very sweet. There's a touch of being stood near a chlorinated pool about this. There's also a vanilla cake nearby. The palate is very sweet but there's sweeter out there. Nothing interesting or complex. Vanilla, caramelised ginger. The finish is short, sweet again. Reminds me of white chocolate cake icing. Honestly, not as bad as expected to drink neat. It's thin but that's the 35% ABV. Not good but I'm not offended.

Im no rum connoisseur, i don't drink expensive rums, or sit there smelling the glass and analyzing every key note, I'm simply an alcoholic. But despite my inexperience in professionally tasting rums, I still believe that Captain Morgans Gold Spiced Rum is a brilliant rum, i enjoy neat, and in coke. Hell its that good sometimes i dont even poor it into a glass. This rum is for absolutley anyone, it doesnt matter if you're an alcoholic like me or a professional rum taster, i'd recommend this do anyone to try.

From the Captain series I started my adventure with rum, this one was definitely the favorite so the sentiment remains. It can be drunk in cocktails at a price of less than £ 50 an item that will get away, especially if one likes spiced

I know, it doesn't claim to be a rum. It doesn't want to be. But even for a mixing base it's way too sweet for me and all the aromas seem completely artificial. I can't connect with it at all and can't understand the massive acceptance. Lidl's own brands are much better and cheaper and even closer to rum.

Not ideal. A standard cheap rum that I personally try to avoid. It's fine when you are already drinking heavily or dying, but the flavour is cheap, artificial and relies too much on it's sweetness to be a brand to crave. Wetherspoons do a cracking job, hence the extra tenth of a point, but to buy a full litre of the stuff would be dispiriting.
