"Was für eine positive Überraschung," as one member put it — and that's the recurring theme here. This is classic Savanna Grand Arôme: loud esters, nail polish and glue, overripe tropical fruit, olive, and a spicy, woody backbone. At 62.7% the heat is real but most tasters found it well integrated. A drop of water opens up cinnamon, blackcurrant and mango. Only real gripe: several wish the finish ran longer.

Great rum, but a bit below the 2006 Savanna Grand Arome because in my opinion it is less intense. Compared to the 2006, the olive scent is less pronounced and the nose is less complex with more ester/solvent presence. The palate is very balanced and the high alcohol content is well integrated. Very long finish that after several minutes releases olive and lychee/grape aromas. Excellent value for money.

Wow, that just blew me away. I didn't remember it being that good! A great Savanna that I unfortunately discovered too late to grab any more. A great Grand Arome with lots of esters, nail polish, all kinds of fruits, strawberry yogurt,... The finish is unfortunately not long. Many thanks for the sample @Saibot

Solid Grand Arome from Savanna. Great complexity and quality. Due to the ester notes, a nice fruitiness of cherry, citrus and currant. The independent bottlers Rum Nation still make the rum "good" at an affordable price.

8,7:On the nose, strong esters bump into us, with overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, menthol and nail polish, spicy and roasted wood with cinnamon, leather, marzipan. On aeration, we find brandy notes with dried fruits like currants, figs, raisins, as strawberry is overripe, molasses is vegetal with an olive and flowery. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with nail polish, esters, fruity with tasty overripe tropical fruits like banana, kiwi, pineapple, then strawberry, apple, currants, perhaps sour cherry, in the end with citrus.The molasses is vegetal with olive and flowery, as the wood is roasted, spicy, tannic with pepper, clove, cinnamon, vanilla and delicious nutty pastry, caramel. 8,5:The finish is long with dry, spicy, tannic and roasted wood, tropical and dried fruits, vegetal, earthy molasses...quite bitter..

fresh/spicy berry fruity lots of cherry, lychee and cinnamon and quite a bit of menthol and varnish. relatively dry and spicy, astringent on the finish. the 2020 batch is overall a bit rounder. Still a magnificent Grand Arome with slight weaknesses on the finish.

Nose: Nail polish remover and fermentation (day-old cold cuts). Taste: sweet entry, then a kick of alcohol and esters. Lots of funk and sass.

Really great Savanna. Mostly esters here, as well as nail polish remover. But this Savanna also offers overripe fruits, plus on the palate light hints of cinnamon, pepper, and the cask.

Today for comparison, two Grand Arome. Rum Nation vs. Elois. Both absolutely excellent typical Grand Arome. In my opinion, the RA is clearly better! More fruity, longer finish, and the alcohol is better integrated.

Very nice rum, great ester nose. In taste and finish many woody-spicy notes and the most esters of the three. Great counterpart to ester and fruit. For me the nicest nose of the 3 Savannas tested today.

The two 2007 Grand Aromes in a cross tasting. The Rx7316 is noticeably rounder and more accessible than the GA tasted in parallel. The nose invites with many spices, some glue, berries, chewing gum and caramel, later also chocolate and sweet mango. On the palate relatively much wood and spices but also tropical fruits. This bottling is much more brutal on the nose and strongly reminds me of the NRJ TECC/TECA. Plenty of glue, lacquer, but also menthol, cinnamon, tropical fruits, chewing gum, esters and other spices. On the palate slightly astringent and bitter, chewing gum, esters, caramel, spices and tropical fruits. Both great bottlings, but very different and definitely worth trying again in peace (without the Savanna HERRs).

A nice Savanna here. The nose is driven by black olives, apples and esters, but there are some salty and smoky notes in the background. Drinking the alcool is pretty present, but there is also a nice sweetness, more noticeable than in usual grand arome

A nice fruity scent spreads. Reminds me of a brandy. More dark fruit, the sweetness of blackberry and the acidity of dried currant. Dull nuances of leather and something bitter from oak wood. Fruity, spicy, full and great. Wow, on the palate the 62.7% scratch first. The fruit is now more on the acidic currant and sour cherry. It comes across salty bitter. Something artificial, not quite plastic not quite iodine creeps in. Spicy woody it is also. In the finish remains the sweet-sour-bitter note full currant and a spice towards anise. I really like it.

28-03-2026 - Rate 8.8 The evening was finished with 3 different Rum Nation Savanna rums. All were really good and hard to keep apart. This one was my second favorit. Rest of the party had this one as their favorit.

Rum Nation Savanna GA 2007 - 62.7% Superb ester nose. On the palate the attack has lots of woody and spicy notes. Superb counterpart of ester and fruit. However, the length is not long enough for my taste.

It's very well made, you recognize the Savanna terroir, lots of olive and ester, alcohol sublimely integrated, quite a lot of ripe tropical fruits. The quality-price ratio must have been stunning at release; today it's hard to get a bottle.
