Vanilla, oak and a squeeze of orange lead the way, backed by leather and dark chocolate on the palate. It drinks round and noticeably sweet, with the 50.5% barely poking through — most tasters find the strength sits well and keeps things from feeling flat. A few give it 15 minutes of air. Easy Panama-style sipping, though nobody calls it deep or complex.

Malecon is one of my favorite Latin styled rum and this 13yo batch 2 doesn’t disappoint me. Hard to say how it it differs from batch 1. Should have needed a bottle from batch 1 to compare. The nose as well as at the palate it’s fruity and spicy with aroma and flavor of vanilla.

Very soft nose of vanilla and wood. Citrus fruits too. Very lively on the palate. Wood is present. Vanilla again. Very sweet and round. Peppery but not aggressive. Rather short finish. Nice Ron with a bit of wattage. The roundness of the juice is balanced by its intensity. Not bad. It's been a long time since I last tasted this rum. First impression confirmed. Intensity. Lively alcohol. The roundness of a Ron. Good value for money.

Alcoholic sharpness on the nose is present, but also lots of tobacco, vanilla and roasted aromas. On the palate it is initially quite sweet and oily, well covering the alcohol. The 50% makes it nicely full-bodied.
