Very similar to the RomDeLuxe 2005 - but not quite as round and smooth and also not as complex. But the same markers: aniseed, continental fruit, oak, plus a slight mustiness from wet cardboard - the sweet yeast pastry from the RDL is unfortunately missing. The mouth is a little thin with olive and brine and some musty wood just behind the aniseed. As with the RDL, the bitterness is well balanced. The dry finish is unfortunately a little flat with a hint of hay. Overall, a good PM that lacks a little complexity. I would always prefer the RDL.

👃 Anise mixed with overripe jackfruit. Baked apple and pear, light butter with orchard fruit scents. A resinous and varnished side, a slight spicy and woody bitterness. Light markers. 😋 From the first sip, an acrid sensation like with a green fruit (between fig or goa apple). More anise, dried fruits of Armagnac Ugni Blanc. A honeyed but diluted side. Some exotic fruits. And this bitterness on the olive but lacking freshness. ⛳ A rather damp woody note also at the end of the mouth, light honey, stem, sap and green olive. "Metallic" and "plasticized" note. The cask brings back some anise and sweet licorice. Quite classic Port Mourant with a reduction maybe a bit too present which diminishes the markers of the old PM still that I was used to better. Excellent value for money.

This is another good rum considering the price tag and I really like the label on the front :-) The nose is light and fruity with wood, anise, nuts and earthy notes. I also get a very light note of rubber. The palate sweet and oily with fruit and anise as well as light rubber and medicinal notes. The finish is medium long has dried fruit, earthy and medicinal notes.

We start the tasting with a very pleasant nose: fruit, solvents and lots of indulgence (butter, brown sugar). After such a start I expected a lot from this rum but found the palate disappointing. It is peaty and saline (feels like facing a whisky), unfortunately without indulgence or fruit. Some dried fruits and a certain roundness still bring some pleasure. The finish is short, peppery and medicinal. A tasting that started very well but leaves me a bit unsatisfied. Not a bad rum but not to my taste either.

I expected a stronger taste and nose for a 13-year Port Mourant but it remains very subtle. You really have to concentrate to find markers. It remains a pleasant rum that drinks well without any questions.

Back to a Port Mourant triplet signed by The Rum Mercenary! The Rum Mercenary – Port Mourant 2005-2018 (48.5%) A 13-year-old Port Mourant bottled by the Belgian The Rum Mercenary. Nose Very fruity right from the start, with notes of apple and pear. A marked elegance, enhanced by a hint of olive glue and that characteristic bitterness of the Port Mourant style. Palate Fruity sweetness at attack, followed by a woody, almost damp bitterness that adds depth. Finish Toasted, grilled, with a metallic touch in the aftertaste. Conclusion Wow! A very nice Port Mourant, true to its profile, with all its emblematic markers.
