A monument of rum. This PM from 1964 delivers everything you could wish for from a mature Demerara. Deep fruit with plums, leather, dark spices and an almost oily complexity. Massive on the palate, yet perfectly balanced, powerful but not overpowering. The alcohol is excellently integrated and the finish is almost endless. A real experience and an absolutely exceptional bottling.

Meine ultimative Nummer 1 der Rumwelt. Schon die Nase zeigt direkt auf, in welchen Sphären wir unterwegs sind. Natürlich hilft bei 69,3% Alkohol etwas Luft, um wirklich alle Aromen herauszukitzeln - aber selbst unmittelbar nach dem Öffnen der Flasche bzw. dem Einschenken strömt uns schon ein betörende Duftwolke entgegen, die alles aufzeigt, wofür die alten Guyana-Rums so geliebt und verehrt werden: Sattes Leder, ein Potpourri an gedörrten und reifen Pflaumen, Trockenfrüchte, Tabak, dunkle Schokolade und Karamell, Gewürze in verschiedensten Spielarten und natürlich auch eine gute Spur von Eichenholz aus der sechsunddreissigjährigen Lagerung. Als wäre das nicht schon für sich genommen beeindruckend genug, zeigt insbesondere der Quervergleich der vier bekannten 1964er Uitvlugt PM Abfüllungen von Cadenheads nochmal deutlicher auf, wie atemberaubend hoch das Niveau tatsächlich ist. Auch wenn mich die Variante mit 69,3% bereits vollends abgeholt hatte, liegen an der Nase für mich das dreissigjährige und das zweite sechsunddreissigjährige Release tatsächlich nochmal einen Hauch weiter vorne. Um die Dimensionen dieser „Kritik“ in Relation zu rücken - wir stehen mitten im Rumolymp, die Tafel ist angerichtet, und wir beklagen eine Opulenz, die es in der Form anderweitig kaum je zu geniessen gibt. Am Gaumen schwingt der Rum sich dann aber endgültig zu dem auf, was ich als Vollendung bezeichne - oder zumindest das, was im Rum-Kontext am nächsten an selbige heranreicht: Spektakuläre Komplexität und Mundfülle, ein vollendet orchestriertes Aromenfeuerwerk zwischen Süsse, Trockenpflaume, Tabak, Leder, Holz und dunklen Gewürzen - und gerade dann, wenn man meint, das Aromenspektaktel käme dem Ende nahe, schlägt sich nochmals eine neue Note satter Vanillesüsse feinster Ausprägung ihre Bahn. 69,3% Alkohol? Kaum zu glauben, jedes Promille davon fungiert als Geschmacksträger. Kein Stechen, kein Biss - besser geht es nicht. In meinen Augen deshalb die unangefochtene Nummer 1 in der Rumwelt, einzig das Schwesterrelease mit 70% dringt in vergleichbare Sphären vor, ist im Direktvergleich für mich knapp, aber deutlich dahinter.

01.02.2025 Retasting at the "Nordlichter Treffen 2025". Still a very good rum in my mind and always happy to try such old golden drops. ----------------------- After a long wait and many bids, I finally won an auction and received this one yesterday. Considering the price some may think I'm mad, but I just love rum. This particular one is one year older than me (destillation year) and has matured for 36 years! The nose is amazing and heaven 17 with fruits and spices topped with smoke and molasses. In the back i can find leather, wow, so nice. The palate is complex and very well balanced candied fruits, spices and toffee followed by tea and nuts topped of by oak. The finish is forever nutty with toffee and coffee and again oak. Money well spent :-)

At Stefan's I had the unique opportunity to taste the 74 Cadenhead PM, the 64 Cadenhead PM and the 75 Silver Seal PM at the same time - a thousand thanks for this opportunity! But what can I say about the rums? How can I do them justice and compare them fairly? I would probably have to devote entire evenings to each one. I thought they were all great. The Silver Seal, with its intense prune, had the most beautiful nose. In the mouth it's a little thinner and not quite on the same level as the Cadenheads. The 74 was great with an intense umami note (it made me think of burnt chicken skin). I had the hardest time with the 64, an excessive mustiness that I only got rid of in the last few sips. In the mouth, the 64 clearly wins over the others. I find it infinitely difficult to categorize the rums in a meaningful way. The last sips were best when I was concentrating on the enjoyment and less on the analysis. For me, 64 and 74 crossed the finish line together. Both great - but also not a different world of rum compared to the 1986 Enmore or the 1975 Silver Seal. All incredibly good. Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunity to differentiate substantially at this level.

An exceptional rum for my eight-hundredth RumX review. A rum from the year of my birth that has become totally mythical. Lots of wood on the nose, old wood, plum, light varnish, dried fruit, yellow fruit (apple and pear), overripe banana and old leather. A fresh, vegetal side too. Phenomenally complex, with different flavors on every breath. The alcohol is barely noticeable, so well integrated is it. The palate is powerful, with alcohol but also plenty of aromas, so everything is balanced. Prunes, stewed fruit, umami, old varnished wood, old leather and dried fruit. The finish is incredibly long, with all aromas present and diminishing in concert. A savory umami becomes more and more noticeable. A splendid rum, power and balance, complexity and depth. My best rum yet. Strangely not so different from a very good Demerara and at the same time in a different league, very, very close to perfection! Tasted again and even better!

9,8:On the nose, roasted wood notes, dark with leather, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, spicy, thick and round, dried fruits like raisins and prunes, citrus fruits, dark, earthy molasses with black tea, soy sauce, cigar tobacco, slightly flowery, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, Demerara sugar is caramelized, the molasses herbaceous, grassy with hay, gun powder is obvious, as we notice coppery and sulphurous touch, also umami and strong oak, dried figs. 9,7:On the palate, the attack is dark, thick, coppery, delicious, alcohol integration is great, with roasted wood notes like caramelized Demerara sugar, leather, dark chocolate, walnuts, spicy with umami, fruits like prunes, dried dates, raisins, cherries, then plums and citrus fruits, as the molasses is really dark with black tea, soy sauce, earthy with tobacco, flowery and herbaceous, vegetal with hints of eucalyptus. 9,8:The finish is long, even better, rounder, tasty, balanced, dry&tannic, with omnipresent gunpowder hints, dark molasses pairing dried and citrus fruits, very marmelade like...top!😋

Still looking for words to describe this miracle. It should not be called rum but put in another category above normal rum. A kinda Über-Rum. The richness, the intensity and depth of the flavors is a unique experience for me so far. I brushed my teeth that evening and next morning, the rum was still lingering around my palate. What a rum!

Northern Lights Meeting 2025: Light floral notes on the nose, dried fruit, especially plum, slightly rusty. In the mouth then infinite complexity, light sweetness is replaced by spice. Tobacco, tea and then dates. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish feels eternal, spicy with a hint of herbs. I don't know what else can come, so I'm cautious with the 10.0, but if I had to go to a desert island, I would know what I need!!! Thanks to MorparRules for the nice opportunity!!!

My 100th tasting should now be the spearhead; the best rum humanity has produced. And yes, this Uitvlugt is so overwhelmingly amazing that it literally blows me away. Incredible!! I am at a loss for words and what I write is only a fraction of what this drop has to offer. On the nose, I am overwhelmed by various sweet fruits, leather, dark chocolate, tobacco, wood, coffee, caramel, many spices, nuts, and floral notes. This density is incredibly strong and unusual. Unbelievable! On the palate, I am again hit by a spectacle of aromas. Dried plum, a nice sweetness, dark chocolate, leather, dates, many spices, barrel, tobacco, and caramel. It continues with a brilliant depth and complexity with roasted notes, walnuts, cola, and tea. I have to pause to understand and laugh ;D The long and deeply complex finish starts with dark chocolate, wood, leather, dried fruits, spices, and coffee. Roasted aromas, burnt caramel, nuts, dried plum, tobacco, and black tea slowly let the enormous complexity fade away. I am a bit sad that my sample is almost empty, but I wanted and had to have this experience. I am overwhelmed. A thousand thanks to @MoparRules for this brilliant experience/training! 🥹

I found the Grail! A real piece of rum history! The nose is extremely deep, rich but of absolute delicacy, and it changes with each sip. You sometimes feel the wood, very old and noble, old leather, varnish, sometimes dried fruits (prune, fig) and red fruits, then tobacco, cigar, black tea, floral and herbal notes. The rum has retained its liveliness despite its age and lets the spices speak (chili, baked apple, umami), but also shows roundness with dark chocolate, cooked caramel and nuts. It's a splendid nose on which you can linger for hours without ever getting tired. The palate is masterful, a true masterpiece. It has an oily, slightly sticky texture that leaves the palate soaked with its captivating aromas. The rum has kept its power and shows the watts, but with such integration that it's divine on the palate. The aromatic spectrum is very complete and each layer adds its stone to the building: the fruits are heavy and indulgent (prune, fig and dried date, red fruits) and perfectly supported by the refinement of wood, leather and the dark notes of Demerara. Dark chocolate, brown caramel, cola and nuts bring roundness, while tobacco, herbal tea and the multitude of spices present on the palate (chili, licorice, anise, umami) add depth, sensuality and complexity to the profile. The whole is of unparalleled harmony in the rum world, it's structured, exuberant and perfectly balanced, it's breathtaking. The finish is an endless delight. The bitterness of the dark notes (dark chocolate, coffee, leather, licorice, roasted and brown notes) is very elegant and perfectly matches the dried fruits. The caramel, toffee and spices mentioned are exquisite, the floral and herbal touches are refreshing at the end of the palate. The finish is drier, heavier but with crazy roundness and elegance. The perfect rum exists, here is the proof. Long live rum!

Geburtstag und 1.000ster Rum - da musste was besonderes her: Was soll man hier noch sagen!? Dieser Rum ist einfach perfekt und für mich bisher unerreicht. Vor allem im Gaumen schmeckt man eine vollkommene Komposition, angeführt von intensivsten Dörrpflaumen die ich mir nicht hätte erträumen können. Ich liebe ihn und danke dem RumX-Team für das Sample!

The first impression on the nose is slightly sulphurous, but the second impression is a very nice umami. The definition of stained glass windows in the glass. Then simply wow on the palate. Hard to describe, a symphony of sweetness, umami, nuttiness, dried fruit, wood, noble spices. Eternal finish. It would only be even better if it "jumped out of the glass" even more on the nose. But even as it is, it is simply a drop of the gods. By far the best rum I've tasted so far. Many thanks to Stefan for the opportunity!

First of all thanks to Stefan for the original bidding and sharing of this rare drop. I waited for the right moment to try it. It really is a truly awesome, delicious complex drop with a seemingly eternal aftertaste. But whether it is the best rum I've had in the glass, I'm not sure. Later in the evening thanks to DomM I had a 75er PM Silver Seal against my 75er PM from Velier in the glass. In my opinion all three are very close to each other, so the 64er does not clearly stand out. In short, all three are absolute killers and I am grateful to have had them in the glass.

Incredibly dense, heavy, and concentrated aroma power. An absolute 💥 explosion in the mouth and unbelievably complex. Dark chocolate, sea salt, toffee, a slight dirty sweetness, slightly floral and spicy. Unbelievable aroma density. Could be a 10/10 – but I need to try it again sometime sober and clean for that. There's no better rum in the world. Incredibly dense nose. Floral petrol. Full of tobacco, leather, chocolate, wood but also lots of fruit. A brutally long finish that will probably never go away. At least I wish it would. Thanks for letting us!

OMG, this one is amazing. The nose is 100/100 = flawless. The taste is perfectly full tasty integrated Uitvlugt with dried plump taste. The taste in mouth last for a long long time. Just a small negative - the ABV is almost 70% and it is still sharp.
