Rhum J.M 2003
Surprise here is how soft it drinks for an agricole: 15 years in ex-bourbon oak smooth the cane right down. Expect wood up front, then vanilla, cocoa, candied tropical fruit, and a little leather and tobacco. Several tasters call it a "rhum à papa" sipper. The catch a few raise: at 41.8% the wood can dominate and some find it a touch flat on power.
- Elegant and silky
- Cocoa and vanilla
- Long sweet finish

Bonjour.

Excellent rum. Superb on the nose and palate. The ex-bourbon barrel ageing is clearly visible. Very well-integrated alcohol. Very good length. A real treat.

A JM with a very elegant profile, carried on the nose by woody, spicy, vanilla and cocoa fragrances before opening up to more fruity and floral notes after aeration. On the palate, the attack is smooth, with tobacco, caramel, wood, vanilla and chocolate blending with notes of coffee, dried fruit and spices. The finish is long, smooth and warm, with the same notes of cocoa and tobacco, and a hint of leather on the finish. A JM faithful to the house's hallmarks, very elaborate and successful.

After resting the first sip was biting a bit but from sip number 3it had settled down completely. The wood is strong on this one but I like it especially because the roasted note also supplements it. Fruity with nice chocolate and vanilla as well as light leather and toffee. I really like the front of the bottle because it's made from leather 😊 I did get a bottle after having a go at the sample.

Typisch J.M: Frucht, Holz, wenig Zitrus, dezente Süße. Etwas Besonderes, wie jede Jahrgangs-Edition.

This is a pure cane juice distilled in 2003, and matured for 15 years (leather label at JM) under the Martinique sun in US Ex-Bourbon oak barrels. To be bottled in 2018 in BDF at 41.8% and beautifully presented in a wooden box. This vintage boasts a beautiful amber color. On the nose, extravagant tropical fruits magnify a woody background! In the background, candied fruit and cocoa. The whole is very attractive. Round and elegant on the palate. Tropical fruit leads the way, accompanied by notes of wood and tobacco. The finish is soft, long and subtle, with tropical fruits. Some will say it's a bit flat, lacking in power, a BDF at 41.8%, what the hell? Yes, it's true, but this candy is really good. Some Martinique 15 ans are nothing but wood, but this is a far cry from that, with fruit galore and a gourmet taste. A real rum of pleasure, to sip quietly without worrying. What else! A vintage that can stand up as an ambassador for JM! This tasting was rather surprising, between the white bielle de Rasta Morris which is no longer white, the young ESBs (Profil 62 and Exploration 3) which have more body than expected, the BDC with its provocative herbaceous notes, the atypical Bellevue 98 with its nose of Napoleon tangerine and this candy of JM 2003 15 years, there was something for every taste. Save the date for Thursday 07/12, the event will be created very soon with a spotlight on the selections made by our friends from other tasting clubs in Belgium! Not to be missed ...

Al naso legno, bosco e frutti rossi, al palato è morbido e setoso con sentori di quercia, frutti rossi, cacao e tabacco, finale morbido con qualche nota di maturati. Va lasciato risposare un po' prima che esprima i suoi aromi

Like the 2000 millesime, also this 2003 welcomes us with a great nose: wood, spices and nuts are the main traits that we can find drinking too. Unfortunately, again the wood is too strong to make us delve into all the levels of complexity this rum should have

Au nez de la pomme avec un côté boisé de vieux tonneau. En bouche la pomme un peu acidulée, un bon boisé, des notes de tabac, cuir. Finale correcte. Rhum bien fait, sans surprise.
