11.10.2025 Retasting at Whisky Live, Hamburg. Still like it a lot. -------- This is a wow factor rum, because you don't expect a Chamarel to taste like this. The nose is fruity with spices and wood. Leather, tobacco and licorice and a hint of grass follows. The palate is intense, oily and dry with wood, fruit and spice followed by coffee, tobacco, chocolate and wine. Overall the palate is spicy. The finish is long and spicy with tobacco and raisin. The finish is dry like the palate. Price to quality can be discussed.

Nose is very earthy and floral almost like a garden. With a slight sweet smell. Woody and sweet taste some liquorice coming through. Again sweet earthy taste, changing to a sweet/menthol finish that lasts for a while

A blend of rum from Mauritius with character. The nose shows an agricultural influence with vegetal notes of fresh grass, then spices (chili, pepper, vanilla) accompany the wood. The fruits are sharper on citrus like orange and lime. A dry but harmonious olfactory profile. The attack on the palate could remind of a Nine Leaves with woody notes and atypical spices (salty notes, chili) as well as whisky. There is also a roasted nut sensation that stands out and reinforces the feeling of a rum from elsewhere. The fruitiness is brief (raisin), followed by a floral and caramelized touch. The profile is dry and lively but controlled, especially regarding the alcohol. The finish is rather long, still marked by these spices, this note of salt and roast which brings bitterness and dryness to the palate. The vegetal side comes out a bit more with greenery and tea. The fruits are generally faded. A slightly harsh rum but well built and rather original for this terroir, which however lacks a little something to claim the top tier.

Solid rhum, but nothing more. That it was bottled by Velier, you do not notice here (the rhum is in no way somehow outstanding), but that should be heartily indifferent in an evaluation of smell and taste. We are not talking about the bottle price here ... So again: Solid bottling, solid 80 points.

A fresh herbal-grassy nose, with a floral spice, something like nutmeg blossom. Slightly sweet from honey. Some fruitiness, maybe slightly towards apricot. On the palate salty-sweet, spicy with anise and vanilla. But also somewhat fruity, perhaps towards sour cherry. Briefly comes a bitter note and then immediately a somewhat tart-sweet one. A slight almond note can also be perceived. In the finish green tea and grassy sugarcane. Nice flavor curve.

The aroma is much more pronounced than Chamarel 2013, which I had a moment ago. Pleasant, fresh floral scent. Taste-wise similar. Nothing wild. Again a very marked cask and noticeable tannins. Finish about medium length. Quality rum, but my expectations were higher. Edit: it's not bad, but something is just missing.

A good rum at a more than reasonable price... just opened the bottle, a bit too alcoholic but with a bit of oxygen the excess disappears.

Still has that hint of sugarcane/molasses as a base taste but aftertaste is more like peated scotch whiskey. Very fresh.
