04.09.2022 Meeting up for a nice after event party at my hotel. Good rum and food spread over a full day. Nose Wood, roasted, citrus, light herbs, floral, light caramel, anise. Palate Light roasted wood, spicy, fruits, light floral, herbs, fruits, light medicinal, faint caramel. Finish Medium to long, wood, roasted, spicy, light herbs, faint mint, citrus.

Nach einigen Nachfragen scheint zumindest nicht auszuschließen zu sein, dass mein Sample keine korrekte Wiedergabe des echten Charakters dieses Rums mehr gewährleisten konnte. Anderenfalls wäre mir komplett schleierhaft, was hier passiert ist. Das hat mit dem vertrauten Profil aller anderen mir bekannten New Yarmouth 1994-Abfüllungen nichts mehr gemein, viel mehr wecken die Aromen in meinem Glas die Vermutung, dass hier ein Kräuterschnaps-ähnliches Destillat abgefüllt wurde. Bis zur Verkostung eines Referenz-Samples daher ohne Bewertung. Update: Endlich mit einem unabhängigen, zweiten Sample erneut probiert. Die Kräuternote bleibt präsent, allerdings fehlte dem ersten Sample nahezu jede New Yarmouth-typische Note. Das bewahrheitet sich im zweiten Sample nicht, die NY-DNA ist vorhanden, aber die Kräuternote bleibt präsent.

Ein ganz anderer 1994er New Yarmouth. Vanille und Holz sind wie gewohnt vertreten. Viel stärkere Kräuternoten von Nase bis Abgang. Dafür vermisse ich die typischen Noten von Schokolade und Trockenfrüchten. Alkohol ist gut eingebunden.

The nose is resinous, acidic and fruity, with extremely overripe aromas. Glue, caramel and vanilla complete the aromatic bouquet. The nose is intense, very rich and concentrated. Beautiful. The palate remains extreme, as it too is extremely intense. The attack is frank, with its 68% alcohol content. After 26 years of tropical aging, there's no doubt that wood has taken its place in this rum. The profile is heavier and less gourmand than the nose, with a herbaceous, medicinal note that disturbs me.

The last one, after Valinch & Mallet, Samaroli, and L'Esprit, it's the Wild Parrot, New Yarmouth 1994. It's a same vintage, and it's also a same type of distillation - column rum. Very high alcohol, so recommend add a water. Nose: Little bit different. Medium intense. This one have some herbals, and, of course, the classic notes, like three previously: lot of dark, roasted oak. Some interesting spices, like nutmeg, mace, vanilla, maybe cardamon & touch of bergamot. Still enough of dry fruits, like apricots, figs & dates. Some sweet notes of biscuits. Actually, it's very close to previously, but this herbals are intriguing. Palate: quite sour, bright, little bit bitter. Orange peels oil, anise, roasted oak, some bitterness, like coal, again this herbals. Some medicine note. Bitter, sweet candies fruits. Vanilla & dry fruits. White pepper. Aftertaste: quite long, little bit sweet, white pepper, spicy, vanilla. Some herbals, mint & anise. Conclusion: ok, this sample more simple, but have interesting herbals & anise notes. Actually it's a very interesting, to compare same vintage between different bottlers. Unfortunately, it was a full column New Yarmouth, except maybe the first one, but I'm not sure.

The poor content met it's maker with whatever cask did violence to it. A weird stench of herbs and aniseeds. Not really something I am in to. Weird and destroyed whatever it is it's not lively and not lovely
