Berry Bros & Rudd Berry‘s Best Guyanan Rum (60 ans LMDW) 1991
What catches you first is the glue-and-tar nose, then it opens into coffee, vanilla and spicy molasses. On the palate it's classic Port Mourant: anise, dark chocolate, menthol and a savory olive note, with that musty Guyanese edge. A few tasters reckon it leans toward Uitvlugt, but the pencil-shavings-and-spice profile reads PM 91 to most. Some find the 46% bottling a touch diluted; others say water makes it even more intense.

Aggregated from 13 community reviews.
Classic Port Mourant: anise, tar, dark chocolate Well-balanced PM 91 with the typical anise, tar and chocolate markers. Most rate it good rather than great — a couple feel it's diluted, and one notes the price doesn't quite match the quality.

Price to quality lacks a bit on this release in my mind. It is still an OK rum, but just a bit pricy. The nose is fresh and fruity with nuts, coffee and vanilla and once rested light notes of wood and tar are present. The palate is intense, fruity and spicy with menthol, nuts, wood and chocolate and a wonderful mix of spices. The finish is medium to long, warm, fresh and fruity with spices and mint.

8,5:On the nose, tar, glue and rubber, toasted wood with nuts, caramel, coffee, spicy vanilla, sweet molasses with honey, grassy(hay), flowery, fresh with tea, green and citrus fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is herbaceous, musty, some pencil shavings appear, the wood is smoky, spicy with cardamom, anise, various fruits nicely balance our experience like pineapple, banana, plums. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is fresh, sweet with grassy, flowery molasses, honey, tea, olive, slightly minty, a bit bitter, toasted wood notes like dark chocolate, nuts, spicy with ginger, anise, clove, fruity with citrus fruits like grapefruit, orange, dried fruits. We might notice some rubber. 8,1:The finish is medium long, dry and tannic, mostly with toasted oak, spicy, pairing earthy, grassy, minty molasses, some green fruits.

Quite a decent Port Mourant. Typical markers, would probably be easily recognizable blind. Dilution doesn't bother me at all. It comes across well and has a nice balance and complexity. In fact, it becomes even more intense in taste with water.

Auch wenn hier keine Destille steht, so geht der schon stark Richtung Uitvlugt. Dieses modrige an dem Rum lässt sich echt nicht verleugnen. Ansonsten haben wir am Gaumen auch noch etwas Würze und Schokolade.

Typical PM 91 notes, but unfortunately too diluted.
Review by Alain Masrum
Nez boisé, épicé, des fruits confits exotiques La bouche fruitée, coque de noix, mentholée, un peu pétrolifère au loin La dilution permet d'avoir des marqueurs plus soft mais aussi plus agréables car moins alcooleux
