Depaz Small Batch 2002
One taster called it "höchstes Niveau," and the 9-out-of-10 crowd agrees, with a catch: this cask-strength Depaz needs real time in the glass. Expect spicy chili and pepper up front, then candied tropical fruit, honey, prune and a smoky-honey finish over old French oak. A few find it turns oaky and a touch bitter, and one preferred the softer 61.6% version.
- Deeply complex nose
- Well-integrated 64.9%
- Chili and tropical fruit

How does Depaz Small Batch 2002 taste?
Aggregated from 44 community reviews.
Intense cask-strength agricole, needs time Most call it one of the best Depaz ever — complex, intense, with chili, coconut and prune. The catch: it demands patience, and a couple find the oak and bitterness too much.

The needs time, in the glass and also when tasting!A very complex nose, which adheres to something old! Incredibly intense....also the palate is very diverse, from an old fruit, to wood to fine vegetal aromas...the same continues in the finish.... An excellent Agricoles!!! I am becoming more and more a fan of Agricoles at cask strength!!!

The nose is invitingly sweet (creme brulee!) and fruity. On the palate, the alcohol is evident and the flavor quickly moves towards wood and becomes bitter. This intensifies towards the finish. No doubt from the "technical data" a good rum, but no, with this Agricole I will not warm. The variant with 61.6% (RX5465) I like better, but will also not my favorite.

This is a tasting from 2020 and it's a great rum even at the price tag when released. A well rounded and nicely balanced rum with nice fruits and vanilla. Clear Agricole notes and the empty glass had a nice smoky note with some honey.

I like it a lot better the second time around. However, I still don't quite warm to it. I like the tropical influences such as chilli or coconut.

The typical Depaz markers at a high level. Glue, dried fruit, licorice, honey and grass/sugar cane. Hammer nose! Insanely great mouthfeel. Full and oily. Now also woodier, hardly any fruit and freshness. Banana bread. The finish is a little weaker, could definitely be stronger and longer. 65%? Superbly integrated. Barrel maturity very restrained for its age. With this great rum, Depaz joins the haute volee of agricoles. Liberation, Neisson, (Chantal Comte) La Mauny and then Depaz.

Highest level! Must soon stand up to comparison with the 2004 and 2005.

Grazie a Roberto
