Here's the surprise: this drinks less like a fresh, grassy agricole and more like an aged distillate, with prunes, raisin and even a "sherry & raisin" note on the nose that one taster called unusual for a rhum. Underneath sit roasted wood, vanilla, bitter almond and citrus. The oak leans heavy, and the crisp sugarcane bite most agricole fans expect has faded with age.

Slot #3 in my 2025 Advent Calendar. This vintage rum from 2001 was bottled in 2011, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Damoiseau brand. It’s aged in 180-liter ex-bourbon barrels. The nose is rich, round, fruity, woody and nutty with scents of prunes, vanilla, citrus and apple. At the palate it’s round, complex, fruity, spicy, woody, roasted and nutty with flavors of prunes, citrus, vanilla and bitter almonds. The finish is medium long with the flavors persisting.

I expected more from this. It is not bad, but also nothing extraordinary, woody notes are stronger at the expense of thhe typical sugarcane notes of younger Agricoles.

Thinking about the price tag on this rum it's actually pretty good. A nice Agricole. The nose is fruity with Agricole notes and wood, floral and light vanilla. The palate is oily with clean Agricole notes and roasted wood, spices and fruits trailed by nuts and vanilla. The finish is medium long and fresh with roasted wood and raisin.

This is bizarre agricole , it's more like aged distalate that I have ever tasted from Damo. Starts off with sherry & raisan notes on the nose which is unusual for a Rhum . Honey comes through on the nose . The taste is typical agricole of vegatation sherry, port , sweet oak wine ...this is a good Rhum to drink but feel the 2009 is miles in front

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: The rum is restrained and sweet on the nose. Fruity, woody notes combine with grassy agricole notes. The rum is balanced and the aromas are evenly perceptible. Unfortunately, all a bit restrained. On the palate, the rum is a bit watery at first. Some sweetness and distinct bourbon notes combine with oak, caramel and fruit. On the finish, distinct agricole notes come in. The finish has some sharpness and the barrel notes take over. Bitterness is quite intense here and lingers long. For me, the Damoiseau at 42% is a bit too thin. It lacks some depth and body. It is also very influenced by the bourbon barrels and the agricole notes get a bit lost. But it has good complexity. The rum loses itself a bit between worlds and can't keep up with JM XO and HSE XO.

Easy drinking and nicely notes of fresh & dried figs and roasted nuts, wood & vanilla seeds. But it also has something slightly soapy that bothers me and doesn't make it perfectly round for me. Also unfortunately a bit thin and overall too woody for me.
