Tasted this blind for 1st Advent, quite sharp at first, which lead to funky fruity mix indictating a Jamaican. Surprise, it was not! 😏 It is said to have some citrus, which I missed completely though. 2cl sometimes ain't enough... I also expected this to be onmly slightly aged, it was 10 years, however.

#1. avent sample from the RumXCalendar. Blind tasting: Very interesting nose… it reminds me on a classic young hampden/jamaican, but in mouth it‘s very different. It lacks in the finish, really woody and smoky. Never thought this is from south pacific and has 10 years 🙈🙈 Nose: fruity, funky, pineapple, sweet, burnt sugar, citrus, ester. Mouth: solvents, fruit schnaps, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, spicy, liquorice. Finish: a lot of smoke, roasted, vanilla, oak.

Day 1 in the RumX advent calendar. I immediately recognized Fiji as a country, the bottling was on the shortlist, partly because of its high alcohol content. Very oily, with fat streaks in the glass, the alcohol is not exactly restrained, both on the nose and on the palate. Otherwise, there is a certain herbaceousness on the nose, surrounded by something that reminds me of dried orange slices. On the palate, some wood and clove are worth mentioning for me, which create an enormous dryness. I often like Fiji a lot, but this bottling doesn't make it into the short list.

The prelude of the RumX Advent calendar. Coincidentally had some Blanton’s before this, which caused it to sit in the glass for a couple of hours before I could taste it. The smell changed quite a bit during this time: sharp in the beginning but as time passes notes of smokeyness with some meat on the grill strange enough. Sweet and savory flavours while the alcohol is integrated extremely well. First bottling from The Wild Parrot that I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying and I like it quite a bit. Looking forward to the rest of the experience in December.

A great first introduction to the rum calendar. The Fiji has a lovely sweet nose of cookies, vanilla and sugar, just right for the first Advent. It also has yellow fruit and light estery notes. Young wood and grass notes are added on the palate.

On the nose like a fresh Agricole... on the palate a nutty note with licorice! The finish is nutty/roasty! An atypical South Pacific for me The alcohol is well integrated

Exciting the stark differences between nose and palate. A good start to the RumX advent calendar 😃

RumX Calendar 2021 .... First Advent. Rather weak Fiji ... A bit boring! Alcohol not too well integrated. Somewhat bitter and immature for me . Nose better than on the palate .

RumX calendar, 1st Advent. Blind: clearly Fiji, high ABV >60, light color, therefore young Max. 10yo. Nose: same glue, followed by something oily-graphite-like. Slightly honeyed with a hint of mango. Very dry, years-old orange slices, some dry cocoa powder, slightly more vinegary and a little smoky. Palate: dry, clove, some mango at the back, slightly herbal and again some glue and oily palate, much weaker than the nose. Not the best Fiji, but ok.

RumX Adventskalender 1. Advent: musste an den Hampden Overproof denken. Leicht funky.
