Overall a smooth and pleasant Latino rum. It’s a 16yo rum containing rums aged for 15 years in American oak ex-Bourbon casks, and finished for one year in Mayan Ceiba casks. It’s fruity and smoky with aroma and flavor of vanilla and pistachio.

Very nice complex rum, the tropical Mayan-Ceiba wood brings incredibly beautiful umami notes of grilled bacon, flambéed pineapple, and spices. Really very successful and elegant. Could just use a bit more power.

Am overall well rounded rum with an oily palate. The curtains in the glass are really nice and stay long. Fruity and sweet with caramel and chocolate as well as lightly roasted wood notes.

A mild Central American. Fruits, caramel, pineapple, leather and a bit of plum. Absolutely solid with good complexity and a smoky note on the finish. However, it does not quite justify the high price.

Surprisingly disappointing. Reminds me strongly of scotch, tastes almost peaty. Very floral and not at all what I expect when I drink rum. But at least it's something different for those who like it.

Clove, paired with a wood flavor that's new to me. Vanilla and cookie round off the taste. From my perspective, the alcohol is not well integrated; despite only 40%, it feels very dominant.

Very pleasant rum to drink. The nose is a bit sparse with dried fruits and something sweet like maybe honey. On the palate, chocolate, nougat, and hazelnut come through. The finish is short to medium length. Overall not very complex, but nice for in-between or very nice as an entry-level rum.

Pleasant rum for rather a beginner rum drinker, but won't offend even a seasoned rum drinker. In the nose caramel, vanilla and dried fruit. Especially banana. On the palate fruity tones, with caramel and vanilla. Finish very short. It's a pity that it is unnecessarily thin.

A solid rum. The fruitiness on the nose stands out. The standard drinking strength makes it very mild. Still, there is enough spice to not be uninteresting. On the border between "pleasant" and "good".

Tropically aged column still rum from the rarely seen country of El Salvador. Smooth classic Spanish style column still flavor with the smoothness of the ageing making it a very easy, almost too easy, tipple. Unfortunately it's hard to recommend at this price. For the de facto store price of 80-85 euros I can shake loose something far more interesting than this. And that's really my main gripe with this one. It's competent and just fine, but just a little bit boring. Passez votre chemin.

The last from the tasting set – unfortunately no revelation either. Rather sweet, pineapple comes through clearly. Also notes of vanilla, clove and caramel. Overall a few percent alcohol are missing. – the Nikte is definitely the better one from the series.

Spicy in the 👃 and not very impressive. Taste however is much better, sweet, vanilla, nougat, caramel and nuts. The only problem I have with this one is the price. In my opinion it is too high for what it offers at 40% abv which is a reason of short finish.

Honestly surprising. At first the smell tricks you into thinking it is a very strong alocoholic rum - it overwhelms your senses to the point it may make you sneeze! Then comes the taste. Absolutely smooth with a sliver of spiciness on the tongue. As far as rums go, this is a good one and is well appreciated neat on rocks. Does not hit my top list as due to the variety of tastes I could barely identify the flavours. Still it is a rum to appreciate if you meet it. Would not recommend it to new rum drinkers.

Personally, I find the Alux clearly better. Still, like all Cihuatan, mega accessible and totally delicious. I find it behaves "calmly" in the mouth, if you can say that. Tasty and pleasant!

Advent calendar 2025 Very pleasant taste and smell. Very mild and pleasant sweetness but nothing special. At this price, there are actually better ones that also remain memorable.

Read full review ›If you like rums from Cihuatán, you definitely won't be disappointed, it reminds me of Nikté and personally it's maybe a bit sweeter than I'd like. It hasn't dethroned Nahual for me. Also, considering the higher price, I would have expected a bit wider range of flavors and maybe a higher proof.
