What catches people off guard is the chili heat — a real pepper burn that runs down the throat, sitting alongside dark chocolate, cinnamon, orange peel and roasted almonds. It's spicy and creamy at 45.2%, but the sweetness is heavy enough that a few tasters mistook it for a spiced rum. Loud, individual, and clearly sweetened.

Completely wild on the nose. Spicy, but not alcoholic, but towards chili. The typical Cihuatan chocolate notes are also there, mixed with cinnamon. Insane amount going on here and enormously independent character. Sweet in the mouth, then spicy to hot. Cinnamon/chili/chocolate also there again. Creamy honey sweetness, almonds, slightly smoky but always with fire. You have to stand on it, but if you do it is really good.

Another one from the Rum&Co Sample Set. At first I had to check the data, is that a spiced Rum? The vanilla note as well as the orange and some cinnamon, combined with a notable sweetness are indicators, but I am not convinced they are additives. However despite being sharp, warm and creamy, I am not impressed as I am missing some of the genuine Rum aromas. The finish reminds me of a dessert drink. I can see this being appealing to many people, but after some Hampden DOK, good Demarara and delicate Barbados this type of Rum will not exite me.

A very fiery, spicy, sweet, exciting, complex rum and a worthy successor to the previous limited editions from Cihuatan! The finish is really fiery and unusual... Unusual but delicious! Still not my favorite...

#5531 03.08.2025 Relaxing with a few samples at home while organising my rum cabinets. Nose Light wood, floral, dried fruit, light chocolate, faint nutts, light orange, vanilla. Palate Oily, sweet, light wood, faint roasted, light orange, floral, vanilla, light caramel, light,light chocolate, faint smoke. Finish Short to medium, light wood, light smoke, sweet, light orange, floral, light chocolate. Empty glass Chocolate, caramel, vanilla, light honey, light nutts.

Very interesting bottling from Cihuatan. Compared to the Cinabrio, it is much spicier and has almost smoky notes, which stand out alongside orange peel, dark caramel and roasted almonds. The ingenious 45.2 % brings a great spiciness, but is occasionally slightly tangy on the tongue. There is a noticeable after-sweetness, but this does not really detract from the aroma. Quite a small price for this variety of flavors.

For a change, something at drinking strength😉. El Salvador is not really one of my favorites, yet it makes a pretty good impression. The nose is gentle, with sweet caramel and vanilla aromas and orange, plus a winter spice mix (fitting for the season)😉 and a pinch of chocolate/chili. All this continues on the palate, the chili heat is really interesting as it runs down the throat. For me though, it's all too sweet. In the Spanish style but an interesting representative that surely has its fans.

Here we have quite a sweet fellow in the glass again. The nose has light aromas of nougat, nuts, and banana. Taste of chocolate, hazelnuts, honey, and some woody aromas. Plus slightly fruity notes like orange and banana. The finish is short.

Toasted almonds, some chocolate, cinnamon, lots of spicy notes and virtually no fruit. Some fruit appears only on the finish which reminds me somewhat of sweet wine.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: The rum is very fruity on the nose with lots of orange, vanilla, and sweetness. On the palate, the rum is surprisingly flat and mainly defined by sweetness. Vanilla, toffee, and some spice. All rather bodiless. Due to the sugar, the rum is mild and easy to drink. The finish is slightly woody. This rum was a disappointment as it hardly delivers any flavor. For that, it is definitely too expensive. If you want to try a Cihuatan, please try the Nikté instead. This one was also helped along, but at least it tastes like something.

A very spicy, rusty rum. Notes of dark chocolate, nuts and roasted coffee/mokka. A half-cooled baked chocolate brownie describes it best for me.

My first rum from El Salvador... On the nose you find the typical markers of South American rums... Sweetness, caramel all in lightness... An entry on the palate all in softness and a hint of herbs quickly replaced by a nice spicy, peppery note... A woody, honeyed finish that makes you salivate... A touch of astringency. A medium to long finish. A rum for those who like sweetness and sugary notes...

Seems a bit like a spiced rum in flavor profile for me (I think due to the link with orange). The "cough syrup effect" that reminds me of The Demon's Share is present, but clearly much better balanced.

Все в очень хорошем балансе и заслуживает вашего внимания. Но конечно если вы купили его с хорошей скидкой, как и я. По белому ценнику это оверпрайс.
