Corman Collins & Bristol Classic Rum Caroni HTR - Le blog à Roger 1997
Most tasters land on the same take: a genuinely good Caroni that isn't quite top-tier. You get the classic rubber, tar and "mechanical workshop" notes, but here they share the stage with an unusually big fruit wave and oily caramel. A few found the 58.5% a touch hot on the nose — give it time in the glass. Well-balanced, "medium-dirty," and easy to sip for the style.
The community says- Balanced fruit and funk
- Oily caramel depth
- But: Alcohol slightly hot

Balanced, fruity Caroni with tar and rubber Widely liked as a balanced, fruit-forward Caroni with the trademark tar and rubber. Most agree it's very good but not the strongest 1997 out there.

A very nice Caroni release. Fruity with sweet notes alongside typical Caroni profile makes a perfect match. Cheers to Roger and Corman 👏

Another nice release from Corman Collins. Price to quality can be argued but it is still pretty good. The Caroni notes are there and I like the caramel note on the profile. I got a feeling of mint or eucalyptus on the profile but I'm not a 100% sure.

The strongest 97 Caroni I've had in my glass so far. Very well balanced. Simply a great rum. Second tasting: still cool and dirty. Slightly weaker than the Bürgermeister 97, but also 5% less

Tasting a few Caronis from Bristol. A fruity, rubbery nose, but not very expressive and not much mechanical workshop. The palate is a little disappointing, with lots of fruit and a mechanical workshop, especially rubber, more pronounced than on the nose, but not thunderous either. The finish makes up for it all, long, elegant and dirty. A contrast that makes this rum very interesting. It smells like a single cask compared to the Bristol 18 and 20 yo. But apart from the finish, the price here is not justified by the taste, unlike the 61.5% Bristols.

Bristol Caroni comparison: plays at the top, but falls short in comparison with its brothers. Nevertheless, a nice balance between fruit and dirtiness. All in all, Bristol offers good quality, unfortunately not always at a justifiable price

Ein Caroni der zurückhaltenden Art! Nicht sehr komplex aber gut zum sippen! Alkohol gut eingebunden!

Surprisingly round at first for a 97, but then bitter notes appear on the finish.

Wow! The nose is great, full of varied but balanced flavors. The palate is just great! It's the kind of Caroni I really like, where the fruit is really present with everything else, and where the old minty woodiness doesn't get in the way. I loved it. So thank you Roger 😉
Review by Joachim Guger
„Mittel-dreckig“. Tiefes, öliges Karamell (das erinnert sehr stark an Velier). Nicht sehr komplex. Der Genießer-Caroni.

erstaunlich fruchtig an der Nase! Besten Dank Rodolphe für das Sample!

A gourmet, well-balanced Caroni. A successful selection.

Gut eingebundener Alkohol. Etwas Standzeit tut ihm gut.
Review by Stylo
It’s always a pleasure tasting a Caroni..this one as all the right distinctive marks..it’s dirty, rubbery, with a fresh note of menthol and a fruity background, that later develops into more earthy flavors (I get slightly bitter licorice roots). The palate adds a spicy flavor, along with some citrus. Finish is long and warm. In comparison with some Caroni from Velier, gotta say that it is less powerful and less dirty, it doesn’t cling to your mouth like tar. Nevertheless, it’s a hell of a dram!

Haaa, the nose is coming together. It is rounder than the 98, it smells the almond, the vanilla. In the mouth, there are plum, raisins, tobacco, mango. And in the finish the leather and the Belgian chocolate ....! A real length as we like them. I have a small preference for this 97 compared to the 98 but the agricultural ones will have had my preference during this evening! Here we are at the end of this exceptional tasting. We took pleasure to discover these rums. But especially to discuss, laugh and share. Again a huge thank you to Seb and Quentin for this dinguerie of lineup.

A rum that takes a little time to open up. A rather fine Caroni, as surprising as it may seem, but quite classic in its unfolding. A good time and a fine selection!
Review by Mentalo
Review by Henry Davies
Nose is fairly restrained, solvents with real oak influence and a hint of sugar. The mouth brings a wave of brown sugar and tar, with shortly after a big and almost surprising fruity wave. Full fruit forward explosion which you see less in Caroni. The finish is medium and smooth, with a layered metallic and leather note with more fruit and citrus. Solid Caroni just not top tier
