Ron / Old Barco de Cargas

Someone just starting out with rum, who wants sweet and easy, is exactly the audience here. Vanilla, caramel and honey up front, very little burn, and a lot of sugar. Several tasters call it a "perfekter Einsteiger Rum" and a top-value everyday sipper, but enthusiasts find it one-dimensional and too sweet, with a short finish and no real fruit.

At the price this rum comes at it's a really decent rum actually. The nose is heavy with spices and a touch of fruits and nuts. The palate is sweet with spices and frimuity followed by a gentle touch of oak, caramel and chocolate. The finish is medium long and sweet with spices. A very good beginners rum that I usually bring to tastings for beginners and it's usually a hit.

In der Nase Vanille, bisschen Holz bisschen Frucht. Im Mund Vanille und sehr sehr süß! Bisschen würze aber sehr eindimensional. Sehr kurzer Abgang.

Avg Rating 7.4/10 over 230 Rums

Guatemala makes soft, sweet, dessert-like rum, and it does it high in the volcanic highlands where the thin, cool air slows maturation. Its base is virgin sugar cane honey, a concentrated first-press cane syrup rather than molasses, and its calling card is the Sistema Solera. One name towers over the country: Ron Zacapa.
