The Rum Mercenary Enmore 1990
Sip this neat and slowly — it's a demanding old Guyana rum built on that wooden Versailles still. Medicinal, herbal, faintly metallic "pencil shavings" up front, then chocolate, coffee, licorice and dried fruit fill in on the palate. The smoky, woody finish runs long. Several tasters flag it as challenging and not for beginners; the 53.7% is mostly well integrated.

Classic VSG profile, sweetness of candied dried fruit, plus the slightly metallic minerality of the typical pencil shavings notes, licorice, pepper, wood. Still a very good rum, but there are better representatives of the vintage.

... Enmore - drive distillery, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excite lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very strong and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

And then the first slightly better quality rum of the day. A beautiful Enmore, which is really medicinal and warm on the nose, and also slightly herbal. Then rather sweet on the palate. We have chocolate, coffee, liquorice and cask here.

30.05.2020 Had a nice afternoon with friends and friends of friends including some nice bottles of rum. Notes Light to medium dark colour. Nose Light wood, vegetal, light olive, orange, grass, dried fruit. Palate Fresh, wood, light roasted, grass, herbs, natural sweetness, spicy, light nutts. Finish Medium to long, wood, dried fruit, medicinal, light nutts.

Almost 2 years after the 1st tasting still very similar impressions. Lots of dry herbs, almost like an ethereal elixir. Medical undertone and smoky finish. Very complex and demanding, not a rum for beginners.
Review by Benoit Mahe
A rum that could have pleased me (chocolate, coffee) but seems too mineral. The alcohol could be better integrated.
Review by Skyfly
Amazingly good bottling that I probably wouldn't have gotten without the contract tasting. Still tropical fruit on the nose, which turns into dried fruit on the palate. Pleasant spice flavors the whole time, still some coffee and cherry on the whole

Very well done. Very pastry-like. You can smell the almond, exotic fruits and after 15/20 minutes notes of cherries and prunes. Very tasty.

The Rum Mercenary Enmore 1990 – 53.7% This molasses rum was distilled in 1990 in the famous wooden Versailles still, then located at the Enmore distillery, now defunct. It then aged for 27 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, under continental climate, before being bottled in 2018, cask strength at 53.7%, by the Belgian bottler The Rum Mercenary, in collaboration with Kintra. As a reminder, the Versailles still was transferred to Uitvlugt, then installed in 1999 at Diamond, now the only active distillery in Guyana. On the nose, we find a typical profile of distillates from Versailles: dark, woody, smoky, very spicy, with a certain elegance highlighted by a touch of eucalyptus. On the palate, the "burnt pot" character typical of this still is a bit more discreet. The spices are well present, but a fruity register (apple, pear) balances the whole, accompanied by a slight almond note. The finish is warm, dominated by persistent smoky wood. A profile that does not really correspond to my personal tastes—as often with Versailles distillates—because of this very smoky finish. Clearly, this is not a rum for beginners…
Review by Djehey
Rather discreet nose of yellow fruit with a strange odor. Medicinal, mineral smell. The palate is soft, very greedy, woody and pastry-like, with some spice. On the finish, those strange medicinal aromas return. The finish is long. The alcohol is fairly well integrated. The medicinal notes don't bother me, in fact I find them pleasant... But I can see why some people might find them unpleasant. The price is coherent.

Ufff, this vsg really struggles to shine. Al lot of very dark notes that a lot of herbs fight against. Like some residue of cough syrup. I don't know if I truly dislikes it or if it just is a counter against the rest
