"Jung, wild, intensiv" is how one member sums it up, and that's the deal here. The nose explodes with ester — overripe pineapple, banana, glue and solvent — big enough that several tasters guessed Hampden blind. Then the young virgin-oak barrel takes over on the palate: vanilla, baking spice, a bitter woody edge and a body that thins out fast. At one year old, the nose promises more than the mouth delivers.

Nose: High ester flows towards you, with grilled pineapple, solvent/turpentine Palate: The rum spreads creamy and the ester note dominates, plus young wood towards the end, slightly bitter and metallic! The finish is of medium length and the young wood predominates The rum would have benefited from a little more ageing, but still very good overall Tasted again today in the RumX calendar: My 1st tasting was confirmed again, although I find it considerably rounder today than last time!

Not my case regarding Worthy Park, too little clove and vanilla. WP can definitely do better. For High Ester, Hampden is simply clearly better and rounder. All in all nothing I want to get as it's too one-dimensional.

Extremely delicious release. The young age gives the fruits a lot of space, but the opulent sweetness of fresh cookies, vanilla, and cream toffee is also very present. A hint of lactic acid, some wood, and crisp spicy sharpness. High ester in lively wood works impressively well even with short aging. Really tasty without becoming boring.

The 14th sample is an SBS WP with WPE mark. Strong ester notes, butter and wood. Fruit rather subtle but also noticeable. Doesn't quite suit my taste.

Virgin Oak was wild! Plenty of esters, but also a vegetal bitterness that I would attribute to the fresh wood. On the nose completely fermented, with notes of butyric acid (yeah, it smells like you've eaten it before...) and then also lacquer and glue. I've already drunk Virgin Oak, where the cask delivered a nice young, albeit wild character. In this combo, it's nothing for me personally, too wild, too bitter. Blind, I wouldn't have landed at WP, but somehow that doesn't make it any better...

Rummaged through the box and found this one. So second tasting and since S.B.S announced more Virgin oak in the high ester segment, probably not a bad thing. The nose full of tropical overripe fruit is really fun and easily reaches the high 80s range. As expected, a lot of young wood on the palate. There are also some baked aromas, you could actually go straight to the kitchen and get started. Pleasant to sip, the rum could be a bit stronger, then there is surely more potential for future bottlings. Comment first tasting (RumX Advent calendar) I really like the mark. Looking forward to more High Ester WPE from Worthy Park!

Better add the tastings of last week before the tasting tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm still very far behind on my old tastings, but comes time comes ratings 😉 This is a young rum and you can taste it. Basically the palate delivers far more than the nose. Overall a very good rum at the price tag.

RumX Advent calendar 14.12.21: with the grilled pineapple on the nose I was totally with Hampden. Unfortunately (once again) wrong 😂. Overall a solid rum, also considering the age. For me it is too wild and didn't really grab me.

The short maturing in virgin oak, has a very noticeable influence compared the HV WPE white at comparable ABV. Interesting bottling.

Nose:.. is it rum or pure, wonderful dunder?? Rotten pineapples, bananas, jackfruits (I would also dare some young durians), bravely mixed with some buttery meat. Palate: ooooooh, I just love it..those rotten fruits, all that hogo, is much more “controlled” and delicate on the palate, giving room to more subtle notes of spices (could be like ginger, vanilla and cloves). As time goes by, sweet pastry notes are slowly emerging..I personally sense some nougat and croissants. Really good, although the palate do not stand as wonderfully as the nose..finish kinda short for me

RumX Advent calendar, 14.12., blind. First impression: strong esters like New Yarmouth, on the palate very similar to a Fidji. Overall not quite clear, but probably Jamaica and around 57%. Nose: strong esters, not as fine as at Hampden. Some marzipan and pineapple. The freshness and sweetness of a lemon come very strongly to the fore. Behind that, a bit of vinegar and the slight spiciness of ginger. There's also a sweet note of strong thyme honey. Palate: again esters and marzipan with a slight bitterness and some umami behind. A hint of artificial Fidji workshop smell is there. At the back some anise, iodine, licorice and green apple. The virgin oak probably brings the confusion here, but also interesting aromas. And it’s only one year of aging. Exciting!

Very ambivalent. On the nose funky, esters, fermented fruits that are very strong even for WPE level. In taste the power is completely lost, so not even the Worthy Park fruit basket remains. It surely hides baking spices and too much sweetness.

Day 14 RumX Advent Calendar: Nose: Ester, pineapple, overripe, but also quite sharp alcoholic. Immediately reminded me of a rather young High Ester Hampden. Palate: like the nose, but somewhat diluted. The rum doesn't have as full a body as other High Ester rums. My guess was a young Hampden with at least HLCF. Reveal: Not bad; Jamaica, Ester, and young were correct.

The nose hits like a bomb and almost knocks you over. It is very fruity and has something of extremely fermented tropical fruits. At the same time, I also find it very Christmas-spicy, has something of baking spices. For this age, surprisingly complex, which will be due to the fresh cask. Very competitive compared to a Hampden. However, one must also say that this intense aroma can become very exhausting over time. In the mouth, however, it can no longer keep up. The extreme dilution becomes very clear and the youth shows.

Quite nice but I think a few more years would have done it good. I found the smell very pleasant. Strong ester notes. Unfortunately, it couldn't hold that in the taste. Nice to have tried it, but I wouldn't get a bottle. Whiskey lovers might enjoy this rum though.

The early ratings always discouraged me from opening it, but I finally dared and I am really surprised and thrilled, especially by this brilliant nose. An ester/fruit bomb, young and wild, great. But I would rather put it in the still unripe, sour corner. On the palate first sweetish, then fruity and woody, then again this fine sweetness. The finish medium length, spicy, woody and with slight bitterness. I'm thrilled by this young wild one.

I like it very much. The comparison with Forsyths WPE White is quite exciting. Esters without end, but on the palate it gained a bit more body due to the short aging. I personally like Virgin Oak and the combination fits perfectly. Many thanks to Mentalo for the sample.
