Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection (RA & Rum Tasting Notes) 2011
One of the highest-rated Chairman's picks members have tasted, and the notes explain why. The nose reads like peach iced tea — mint, green apple, thyme and a whiff of glue — then the palate turns dry and spicy: pepper, ginger, smoke, dried fruit, cedar and leather. A John Dore and Vendome pot-still blend that drinks younger and punchier than nine years suggests. Neat at 59.8% it bites; a few drops of water tame the pepper.

still a very, very cool blend of John Dore & vendome to perfection!🇱🇨❤️🤤 something between peach iced tea, papaya mint salad & rose water mango lassi papaya with a good portion of wood and shoe polish in the finish... totally wacky, totally exciting, I want more of it 😍🤤

Bacon, smoky, intense. The moment must be right.

For me, still among the top 3 of all the Chairman's I have tasted. Great nose, reminiscent of an exotic fruit salad. Spicy, herbs, tea, light mint and a non-distracting chemical note. This potpourri continues on the palate, ending slowly in a long finish with a slight umami.

Wow!! 😍 This one is great, complex and I really like the style.

Good St. Lucia profile and quite atypical.

Without any bias towards the lovely team who picked this one: this is a damn good Chairman’s indeed. Colin back to this, after some time the bottling never disappoints. Due to its relatively young age at bottling, it is more punchy and vibrant then some older contenders of the session. Wood has not taken over so much, leaving more room for an intense basket of tropical fruits (papayas) and some spices/dirt on the nose as well as on the palate. Excellent stuff.

Fruit (yellow fruit and citrus) dominates on the first nose, with a sort of varnish and fairly dry cedar wood and a slight vegetal note. The palate is rather soft, then alcohol and aromas become more powerful, with cedar wood in the aftertaste, reminiscent of a sauna. A powerful, alcoholic, woody (cedar) finish that calls for a fine cigar!

Amazing! A bottling that captivated me from day one, when a sample suddenly appeared in my mailbox before it even went on sale. Fruity, tart, woody, full of character — a great blend of Vendome & John Dore. A bit like barrel-aged peach iced tea!

Rum or fifty shades of mint. Am now a mint fan and just follows me in every second rum. Here again in a new facet. Fruity Jamaican mint with a touch of rosemary. In the mouth, the fruits are riper, dried, but the mint is fresh. The spiciness of ginger and pepper brings a pleasant warmth, but is never biting, as with the Evanius Harris. In the finish comes after the mint again some sweet mango around the corner.Super rum!

Another rum where you get a lot for your money. Lightly fruity with wood, some smoky wood and medicinal notes. There is a very faint mint note at the end of the palate.

I didn't like it that much the first few times. Took the sample out again today and find it very tasty. The strong mint component reminds me of a TDL. Smoky, intensely minty, chocolate and leather, dried fruit, medicinal notes. Generally well balanced due to the sweetness. Delicious rum.

Beautiful bourbon aroma, plus tobacco and leather. Excellent Chairmans.

Number #2 of my Saint Lucia Tasting. This is a rum that’s completely different from any other Saint Lucia rum I’ve tried so far. It’s much more on the floral side — with eucalyptus, fresh thyme, clove, and a smooth leather note. The finish is long and so delicious, with lovely minty and eucalyptus notes, vanilla, oak, and more. Nicely done, RumX Team!

A strikingly floral aroma on the nose: tea and herbs. On the second sniff, mint. Initially sweet on the palate until the intensity sets in and smokiness takes over. A striking drink, none of what you smell comes through on the palate. The finish is long and complex.
Review by Tim
Special and complex rum. Almost resembles a Jamaican, but floral and smoky notes are very dominant, which are not my favorite flavors. In the mouth and on the finish, there are many dark, but also herbal notes, with the smoke and berries lingering for a very long time. Complex rum, but not 100% on my wavelength.
Review by primus
The nose moves in fruity-floral understatement, only to strike on the palate: tropical fruits, wood and leather, as well as a mixture of burnt sugar and mint spread out, followed by a beautiful spiciness. A great, powerful drop.

Incredibly varied fruit basket on the nose without being too intrusive, very round, rather spicy on the palate, outstanding St. Lucia!
Review by Christian Rudt
Fruity on the nose with peach, dried apricot plus a hint of mint. On the palate then very intense and spicy with some dried fruit. In the nice long finish, these then garnished with herbs once again clearly pleasantly emerge.one must certainly give him the necessary time so that all the flavors unfold.

Franconian Tasting Gang - March 21, 2025 - Nuremberg: Five Chairman's Reserve in a small cross tasting. The Horizon has a very dominant, mega-fruity nose. It's there right after pouring, while the others still need some time to unfold. After a while, RdL and RA catch up. Similar picture on the palate, the three would be my favorites, while the LMDW is too woody for me and the Cask&Bottle has too much finish.
