an outstanding rum for cocktails and fruit punch. Pictured here in the Rum Runner. But you can also really enjoy it on its own and for a great price, it's a must-have in my home bar.

Woody, sweet, bitter with a slight alcoholic tingle on the lips. I do not get much more out of it, not mine.

All my Tastings and Scores are purely based on “Rums under £50”. I rarely look at Rums over £50 for my YouTube.

The 8-year-old could be in the bottle at El Dorado and some people would be stunned.

A typical Guyana rum. Subtle notes of dark chocolate and a bit woody. Makes an acceptable neat sipper.

Ahhh.. retour a mes premiers amours. El Dorado, c’est vraiment sympa. C’est clairement une belle mélasse, relativement vive, un beau sucre brûlé, des épices, de la noix de coco.. bref. Pas mal du tout !

Had only mixed with this and was pleasantly surprised at how it sipped. Sweet caramel and toffee and a hint of oak. I'm guessing this has some amount of dosage but if so it is definitely not over done. I wish the proof was higher but it's convinced me to try the 12 or 15 soon.

Good for Rum & Coke, sweet
Review by Mitchell Kennedy
The smell is raisin, caramel, and vanilla. Longer smelling gives more of the dark dried fruits. The taste is some grassy, woody sweetness to start, with caramel and vanilla. The dried fruits and raisin come in. The finish is a bit hot with a hint of dried fruit.

An affordable rum that works for both sipping and mixing. A tiny amount of this in a cuba libre is delicious. The price on this (around €20-25 in the netherlands) makes me think this is a great value rum.

Aroma: fresh, sweet reed aroma, peach notes, tropical fruits, non-alcoholic light aroma. Taste: slightly alcoholic, sweet fruity light aroma, vanilla-nutty aftertaste. Light fruity-vanilla aftertaste. Excellent basic light basic Guyanese rum.

Overripe Tropical fruit, but driven by toasted sugar notes of roasted marshmallow, clove, & carmelized banana. Fresher fruit tones support this like tart apricot & baked apple, also a touch of apple blossom. With all this said, caramel, demerrara simple syrup & roasted notes are the focus. I bought this a few years back to use in homemade eggnog & it was perfect. Finishes on a toasted meringue & vanilla poaced pear note. Decent sipper, even better mixer.

Great for cocktails!
Review by Campbell
El Dorado 8yr is a very recognizable Demerara rum—woody, slightly sweet, with hints of chocolate dried fruit and spice. Its an easy, approachable sipper; lighter in profile, maybe a little simple/tame neat, but nonetheless a good starting point for the style. Cocktails are where it really shines; it’s a versatile rum that’s able to hold up on on its own and plays well with other spirits, and it’s a great value to boot.
