Karukera Black Edition Alligator
Roasted, toasted oak leads here — heavily charred barrel notes, coffee, vanilla and brown sugar, with a little smoke on top. The nose wins people over (florals, dried fruit, toffee), but several tasters note the palate flattens out, going simpler and more whisky-like than the aromas promise. A smooth, rounded 4-year Guadeloupe agricole that drinks easily.
- Roasted oak nose
- Smooth and round
- Vanilla and coffee

How does Karukera Black Edition Alligator taste?
Aggregated from 87 community reviews.
Roasted, oaky agricole; great nose, simpler palate Most find it a pleasant, easygoing agricole with great roasted-oak aromas — but it leans simple, and a few say the palate and finish don't keep the promise the nose makes.

Bought this Rhum from Catawiki to a very good price together with some other bottles. Karukera is produced by the Esperance distillery in Guadeloupe that also produces Longuetau. Karukera is the name the indigenous people called their island which means 'The island of beautiful waters'. It’s distilled in the distillery’s column still, but the details how it has been aged differs, some says for seven years in French bourbon and cognac barrels others says five years in new charred barrels. Maybe there are two different ones. Overall a super smooth and round Rhum that probably is a very good introduction to Rhum from Guadeloupe.

No. 2 of the advent calendar of La Route des Rhums. Another good agricole, not much in this calendar. This one is again very woody and spicy, some vanilla is recognizable, as well as dark chocolate.

A Karukera with an atypical profile, where the barrel's bousinage makes itself felt right from the start, with roasted and roasted notes, coffee, spices and wood (oak in particular). Floral notes counterbalance the profile, as do fruity aromas and toffee. On the palate, the attack is warm but very concentrated on the toasty, spicy side, leaving little else to show, unfortunately. The finish, medium in length, returns to smoky, woody, spicy, floral and fruity notes to leave a final pleasant impression. Although very concentrated on the roasted and grilled aspect, it's a nice rum that's easy to drink. A good rum for the transition to the agricultural world.

An excellent rum dedicated to whiskey or bourbon lovers.

Review by Mc Pirate
Quel nez !
