Best sipped neat with plenty of air — this is a full-throttle Hampden, not a mixer. Expect glue, nail polish and vinegar up front, then overripe pineapple, banana, marzipan and a salty olive-brine edge. At 66.8% the alcohol is remarkably well tucked in, though most tasters reach for a few drops of water. Dry, astringent, wildly funky. Several call it one of their favorite Hampdens.

Two high-ester monsters: SBS NY 2005: The nose promises a lot and the palate delivers. A funky Jamaica, with a little smoke. The only thing that bothers me is the not quite perfectly integrated alcohol. But that's mexing on a very high level, a great bottling! FRC Hampden 2007: This excellent rum doesn't need many words! A continental matured Hampden that was the benchmark for me in its category lamge.

Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can sense wild esters that make your whole body soak in the scent of yellow tropical fruits – mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die."

RumX Advent calendar 23.12.21: mmmh Hampden😋 really awesome. Everything it needs is in there. Edit: Awesome rum🇯🇲 lots of cherry, cooked banana, brioche, salty water of pickled olives, brioche. So much great stuff to discover. Even though the alcohol is well integrated, I need a bit of water here. Releases a lot of aromas and makes the drinking experience more accessible.

A really good Hampden, offers the full load of ester and the horny Hampden flavor par excellence. You have to like, I like, really good. Despite the acidity and the biting esters somehow also soft and creamy. Class.Does nothing to the point, but: the beer stored in this barrel is also really cool👌

Gross stuff. Ester without end. Very intense. Can be drunk well despite 66.8%.In direct comparison to other High-Ester Hampdens I had to score the 2007 somewhat down (-2).

First tasted in the RumX Advent calendar 2021. The impression back then is confirmed again today. I like the nose with glue, fermented fruit, banana, pineapple. But most of all I like the marzipan notes. Pleasantly sweet on the palate, but overall for my taste too intense. Good, tasty, but somehow over the top and not balanced enough for a top rating.

Nose: Mostly aggressive carried by high acidity and funky chemical notes. I don’t get too many fruits compared to other bottlings. Palate: very adstringent / very ester and chemicals forward overshadowing fruits with a rather bitter finish.

tasted with the Rum Cask Hampden 1990, both C<>H Marque, the Flensburg with more ABV, the Rum Cask matured longer. In direct comparison, the Flensburg seems as if someone had installed a turbo, on the nose crass notes of fermented buttermilk and citrus, fantastic! The Rum Cask, on the other hand, seems almost a bit flat, i.e. much more balanced, with a broader fruit palette and baking spices. Similar on the palate, the Flensburg with more power and acidity, the Rum Cask rounder and more complex, also somewhat bacon-spicy.

Edit: 07/23 Compared with Whiskey Jury HD 2007 and Velier HD 2010 C<>H. From 92 to 90. But best from the 2007 HD class. Wow. What a great rum. Ester, overripe, partly fermented fruit on the nose. On the palate it seems even more intense. A tingle on the tongue and yet the alcohol is incredibly well integrated. The finish lasts for what feels like an eternity. The only drawback: I unfortunately only got a sample here.

Thus company has very high standards and thus usually always scores high on their releases. This particular one is fruity from nose to finish and I love is. The nose is nice and is very fruity and I'd aay overripe fruits for the most part. There is some vanilla and a small hint of glue The palate is dry and complex, equally fruity as the nose and followed by barrel spices and a touch of ester. The finish is long and fruity with vanilla and smoky barrel/oak.

My favorite Hampden to date! Many may not understand, many he is too crass and too one-sided. For me, this is not the case at all. The fruit notes in combination with the finest vanilla, anise and oak notes is for me at the moment with nothing to compare and my absolute favorite. A true pure high ester as we love them, this Flensburg is particularly rich and opulent, with beautiful fruity and phenolic notes that combine with a pastry and fermented side that rounds out the angles. It stands out from Kill Devil's cuvée thanks to its greater length on the nose. On the palate, the power of Hampden speaks again, with strong phenolic notes, intense ripe tropical fruit, tangy citrus notes and spicy touches on a marzipan background. More intense and less fruity than Kill Devil, this Flensburg tends towards a heavy, intense profile where the alcohol is remarkably well integrated. The finish is drier, tannic and slightly bitter. The fruit is more subdued, but the medicinal notes resurface to permeate the mouth even after brushing the teeth. A rich, aromatic and gourmet Hampden, a real treat for any Jamaican rum connoisseur.

Hardcore glue, esters and marzipan butter cookies on the nose, plus bubba cherry and overripe BBananegeschmacklich then sour with lots of glue and nail polish remover, the mouth completely drying and astringent. then again the typical overripe banana and at the end remains hubba Bubba cherry and fermented pineapple with lots of esters, plus some salty olive brine and butter brioche.really an extreme ester bomb, to me he is just overall in the finish a bit too astringent and furry in the finish.

Magnificent tears. Nose, lots of esters, loads of overripe tropical fruits (but excellent), pineapple, mango, banana, starfruit, jackfruit... Candied fruit paste. Then kitchen spices, pepper, Guérande salt, paprika. A bit of lavender passing by. The brine of the green olive coming out of its jar, perfect. Palate, on a magnificent Victoria pineapple roasted in butter in the pan and flambéed with rum, soaked in sugar. Exquisite flavor of citrus fruits. Candied pineapple with ginger. Honey, sap, solvents, varnish. Superb finish, spicy and fermented fruits as desired, astringency of esters. Maybe lacking a bit of woody aspect to round the edges. But I'm nitpicking. FRUIT BOMB

Edit: tasted again and unfortunately downgraded. Tested again against No.5 from the RumX 2023 Advent calendar. Too bad we didn't have it during the crosstasting back then. But from the first impression, the Kill Devil from back then probably would have had a hard time. Thanks to mto75 for the sample.

Butter with sugar and vitamin C containing fruit most intense on the nose and even more blatant in the mouth. The finish adds something metallic and it is a bit furry on the palate. Here you can really taste the fermented tropical fruit. A true ester bomb. Alcohol is super integrated.

A Hampden with edges and corners. Got quite a lot of wood (but without smoky notes), the alcohol could be better integrated and it also brings quite a bit of acidity. Still, it’s a lot of fun with its creaminess, fruitiness and ester notes. Not an easy bottling where my mood decides how much I like it.

It's decently astringent, but vinegar and butter give way to more pineapple and marzipan.Comparison to the Velier C<>H: same flavor profile, the Velier is a bit more intense in everything, so it comes out ahead.The beers:Pale Ale No. Een: fresh, light grapefruit, hoppy, medium-bodiedPale Ale No. Een Hampden Cask: you can definitely taste the C<>H out. The hoppiness goes behind it and that's good!

On the 23rd day, there was a nice highlight in the RX calendar. The Flensburg JMC (C<>H). A real ester bomb. Fermented fruits, butter, lacquer, mango, papaya, banana. Alcohol very well integrated for 67%. You really have to get into it. Not for casual sipping. Long airing recommended.

Very good rum. Super ripe banana and lots of indulgence, combined with powerful esters. The nose is superb. On the palate, I still find it a bit strong. I would have appreciated a few degrees less, if only to not have to wait so long before sipping it 😉 Thanks Michael for the sample! 😁

I think this rum did sit in the glass for a good 30 minutes while i was analysing my first rum of the night. On the nose: Esters, glue, tropical fruits like banana and pineapple. Marzipan notes gives nice level on sweetness and balances the acidic and fruity notes. Taste: Intense. Esters. Overripe pineapples. Acidic. Then palate gets marzipan notes and mouthfeel changes slightly creamy with overripe pineapples and acidic notes still in there. Finish: Esters and pineapples at first. Light marzipan notes. Dry with medium finish. Intense Hampden with very good balance fruity, acidic and sweeter notes. Goes to one of my favorites from Hampden for sure!

RumXmas #23, blind: First thing I thought was maybe Hampden DOK. But there will probably not be another one in the calendar. I think the alcohol is very high, but integrated very well. Smells like ether or aceton. Think Jamaican high ester, but can’t specify as my knowledge from al the different marks isn’t that great as some of you guys in here. Could be a trick by @Adrian, so we’ll see 😅 Wasn’t far off with the Hampden DOK 🥳 It’s amazing how well in alcohol is integrated and how “smooth” it is for 66,8%

The nose is nice and very fruity and I would say mostly overripe fruits. On the palate it is dry and complex, just as fruity as the nose, followed by barrel spices and a hint of esters. The finish is long and fruity with vanilla and smoky barrel/oak.

Nose: a wedding of esters and bubble gum..pineapple, papaya and a hint of banana. As time goes by, there’s a subtle hint of mold :P Palate: the same mix of esters and bubblegum, plus a touch of saltiness that balance the sweetness coming from the fruity notes. Mildly astringent but very warming..ABV could be on the 60%. Finish: those esters leave a little bit of room to some peppery and gingery spices
