Velier Savanna HERR Japoniani HERR 2006
The strawberry is what catches everyone off guard — ripe strawberry and cherry riding on a wave of ester, glue and olive brine, the Savanna high-ester signature turned fruity. Underneath sit menthol, herbs, light wood and a long warming finish. At 63.2% the alcohol is remarkably well integrated; most tasters sip it neat, though a few drops of water pull out more fruit. Loud, complex, and to many the best HERR yet.

Very good, balanced HERR. But I like the younger and fruitier LMDW better.

Edit: Tried the new one from the high-end French restaurant again yesterday. Stick to my rating, but unfortunately this one is a little behind. O.k. o.k. o.k. what a great rum. Big thanks again to SaibotZtar for the cool split. The longer it stands, the better it gets in my opinion. I also tried a few drops of water this time, which is rare. All in all a very good drop, but unfortunately it doesn't make it into the top group.

Crass Savanna Lord but that was to be expected ... Has taste what of very overripe kiwi, plus neat Wick ice candy, raw tobacco leaves and herbs and olive brine. Personally, it is a little too grassy and could be even fruitier. Nevertheless, a great representative of Savanna Lord in pure form!🤤

Red fruits (sour cherries, strawberries) and vanilla on the nose, plus chewing tobacco and some menthol. Vanilla, tobacco and barrel on the palate. Long finish. Really good! Reminds me strongly of the CdI Savanna bottled for Gernany (RX308)
Review by Thunderbird
This is a really sophisticated Savanna... very complex and demanding..., I still find the nose relatively restrained... but it literally explodes on the palate... in addition to esters and a lot of funk, aromas of fruit, mint, herbs, olives and some barrel constantly alternate..., the finish is dominated by the herbal side. A very good HERR.
Review by Mirco
Explosive estery fruit with present strawberry and cherry notes, supported by pineapple, olive brine, vanilla and partly balsamic citrus freshness. A herbal mint touch provides additional garnish. Very dense on the palate with fruit funk, herbaceousness and subtle wood. The long, warming finish shows a fine bitterness, but remains elegant and multi-faceted.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A superb high ester rum from Reunion Island with extraordinary aromatic concentration. The nose is a subtle blend of medicinal notes (glue, esters, nail polish, solvents) with a fruitiness marked by red fruits (cherry, strawberry, raspberry), fresher, mentholated notes, a hint of olive brine, but also a woodiness that leaves on notes of pepper. The whole is well-structured but very well controlled. On the palate, the rum is powerful, but very greedy. Once again, there are notes of red fruit, but also the impression of harlequin candy that gives the palate a strange, bubblegum-like quality. Spices and other spicy notes contrast with the freshness of menthol and olive, while medicinal, fermented and tannic notes leave their mark on the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, intense and equally aromatic. Fruit, funky notes, spice and freshness play off each other in a jumble of aromas. The whole is well structured. A Savanna for the good times, sure to delight enthusiasts.

30.05.2020 Had a nice afternoon with friends and friends of friends including some nice bottles of rum. Notes Light to medium dark colour. Nose Light wood, ester, fruity, herbs, tar, citrus. Palate Round, fresh, balanced, light wood, ester, faint strawberry, fruity, light smoke, faint caramel. Finish Long, wood, roasted, light smoke, licorice, faint rubber, berries.

HERR, an abbreviation I've given a wide berth to so far...😁 Very fruity (strawberry, cherry), esters and solvents. Black olives and fine spice. Very complex. Every swirl brings new aromas. Surprisingly little furry in the mouth. Very powerful, herbal and warming. The finish is warm and spicy with black olives. I was pleasantly surprised. Great craftsmanship and if it weren't for the strawberry flavors - I really don't like them... Ah, now a fruit fly has committed hara-kiri.😂 Thanks to Bonn, always something new for my conservative taste buds.😀😀😀

Wow. Everything happens there. Long Pond Teca is the most similar style I can think of. Just young and fruity. Great stuff, there's so much going on at the back. Eucalyptus, incense, bananas, red cherries, esters, chemicals, meat, smoke. Wow. The price is completely justifiable.

Simply the best HERR for me so far. Last HERR > 60th > Herr Blanc > Herrline

In comparison, the 10 yo Lord clearly wins for me.

👃 Beautiful fruity and fermented intensity oscillating between strawberry candy and almost overripe garden strawberry. There are also Morello cherries in kirsch and cherries fallen from the tree. Later, the fruitiness evolves into very ripe mangoes. I even find notes of peach iced tea. In the background, a nice buttery vanilla. A bit of menthol also on medicinal products. All this is carried by sufficiently intense esters. Finally, it is slightly salty on small green olives taken from the jar. Excellent nose. 91+/100 😋 A lively punch of roasted and buttered pineapple in the pan. A palate on the funky made in Savanna; pineapple, ginger, almond leaf, spices, peppermint, salted olives. The fruity flavors on strawberry and red fruits are present but less than I would have hoped. Seems less complex than the last GAs tasted such as the Chronicles and to a lesser extent the Wild Parrot. 88/100. ⛳ Finish relatively long, balanced but a bit acidic on starfruit and passion fruits not ripe enough. Bitterness on tobacco leaves and various dried herbs. The wood is slightly drying. 87/100

Compared to the Edition Blanc Herr at a similarly high level but still very different. While the edition blanc achieves a lot with very few aromas, here we are back in savanna aroma overflow - but really really good. For those who can taste it: Yes, yes, yes.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang & Jakob, 2023-07-27 Part 3: Yes, this is definitely a HERR, the strawberries are there, pineapple, esters. Plus pleasantly spicy and woody. Very complex, tasty. Compared to the HERR from LMDW somewhat tamer and less fruity.
Review by Chrischi78
Fruity-esteric with ripe strawberry, blackberry, and a slight medicinal iodine tone. On the palate intense, sweet and floral, with pineapple-strawberry chewing gum notes and some grass. The finish is grassy-cherry. Savanna top!
Review by Pavel Spacek
The rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favourites. I recommend everyone to try especially the higher ester pieces like Grand arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few little drops of liquid for a long time.

I like this boutique/beautiful bottle, just need to improve the content, haha.

Slightly worse than LMDW 60 Years and the Restaurant Edition. The Japoniani lacks the fruitiness. But still a very good HERR. Ice candy, mint, cask, a bit of strawberry. Alcohol is well integrated.
Review by Sebastian Kornett
Grilled pineapple, neat ester. Alcohol wonderfully integrated. Simply delicious.
Review by Frank
Oh yes, first come the esters. Fruity, of ripe strawberry and blackberry. But there is also something medicinal, iodine. But seems round and pleasant in itself.Intense, sweet-fruity-floral on the palate. Very artificial after pineapple-strawberry gum. Ripe pineapple is up front here. Something grassy is added. In the finish then mixes something grassy cherry to it.Savanna is already a class of its own.All three Japoiani are equal on for me.

Fruity, herbal, olive brine with lots of varnish glue (a bit artificial) and a hint of vanilla. VERY intense!

Absolutely the best of the series, no contest. And one of the best Savannas out there. Needs a bit of time to really reveal its secrets. When it does you get punched in the face with typical fruity funky HERR. Tropical fruits, strawberry, esters, glue, light mentol, sweet and sour infusion, gummy bears.

Kriste this is strawberry ester paradise 😍

Very nice rum in its category 👌

Color: Chestnut Smell: What strikes me first: not as many esters on the nose as expected. Smells initially sweet and fruity like raisins, esters and some solvent. Smells like strawberry syrup. Also floral. The alcohol is well integrated. Taste: What I notice first in the mouth is how well integrated the alcohol is. Incredible that it has 63.2% alcohol content. Tastes sweet, round and fruity, mild, very spicy and woody. Also surprisingly herbal for a HERR. Finish: Long, spicy and woody with toffee. Aftertaste herbal, especially mint. 88 points

Very good grand arôme, both funky and balanced, lots of strawberries and well-ripe fruits and a nice dose of esters. The woodiness is pleasant, it's also spicy and with a rather fresh finish.

What a monster, a nose full of everything. Ester and red cherries, red fruits other kinds of. A bit of wood and nice. Palate explodes with fruits, herbal fresh notes of awesome. It goes just a bit into it's aging at the end of tasting. A monster and worthy for being the last.
