Velier Savanna HERR Japoniani HERR 2006
The strawberry is what catches everyone off guard — ripe strawberry and cherry riding on a wave of ester, glue and olive brine, the Savanna high-ester signature turned fruity. Underneath sit menthol, herbs, light wood and a long warming finish. At 63.2% the alcohol is remarkably well integrated; most tasters sip it neat, though a few drops of water pull out more fruit. Loud, complex, and to many the best HERR yet.

HERR, an abbreviation I've given a wide berth to so far...😁 Very fruity (strawberry, cherry), esters and solvents. Black olives and fine spice. Very complex. Every swirl brings new aromas. Surprisingly little furry in the mouth. Very powerful, herbal and warming. The finish is warm and spicy with black olives. I was pleasantly surprised. Great craftsmanship and if it weren't for the strawberry flavors - I really don't like them... Ah, now a fruit fly has committed hara-kiri.😂 Thanks to Bonn, always something new for my conservative taste buds.😀😀😀

A superb high ester rum from Reunion Island with extraordinary aromatic concentration. The nose is a subtle blend of medicinal notes (glue, esters, nail polish, solvents) with a fruitiness marked by red fruits (cherry, strawberry, raspberry), fresher, mentholated notes, a hint of olive brine, but also a woodiness that leaves on notes of pepper. The whole is well-structured but very well controlled. On the palate, the rum is powerful, but very greedy. Once again, there are notes of red fruit, but also the impression of harlequin candy that gives the palate a strange, bubblegum-like quality. Spices and other spicy notes contrast with the freshness of menthol and olive, while medicinal, fermented and tannic notes leave their mark on the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, intense and equally aromatic. Fruit, funky notes, spice and freshness play off each other in a jumble of aromas. The whole is well structured. A Savanna for the good times, sure to delight enthusiasts.

Edit: Tried the new one from the high-end French restaurant again yesterday. Stick to my rating, but unfortunately this one is a little behind. O.k. o.k. o.k. what a great rum. Big thanks again to SaibotZtar for the cool split. The longer it stands, the better it gets in my opinion. I also tried a few drops of water this time, which is rare. All in all a very good drop, but unfortunately it doesn't make it into the top group.

Oh yes, first come the esters. Fruity, of ripe strawberry and blackberry. But there is also something medicinal, iodine. But seems round and pleasant in itself.Intense, sweet-fruity-floral on the palate. Very artificial after pineapple-strawberry gum. Ripe pineapple is up front here. Something grassy is added. In the finish then mixes something grassy cherry to it.Savanna is already a class of its own.All three Japoiani are equal on for me.

30.05.2020 Had a nice afternoon with friends and friends of friends including some nice bottles of rum. Notes Light to medium dark colour. Nose Light wood, ester, fruity, herbs, tar, citrus. Palate Round, fresh, balanced, light wood, ester, faint strawberry, fruity, light smoke, faint caramel. Finish Long, wood, roasted, light smoke, licorice, faint rubber, berries.

This is a really sophisticated Savanna... very complex and demanding..., I still find the nose relatively restrained... but it literally explodes on the palate... in addition to esters and a lot of funk, aromas of fruit, mint, herbs, olives and some barrel constantly alternate..., the finish is dominated by the herbal side. A very good HERR.

Crass Savanna Lord but that was to be expected ... Has taste what of very overripe kiwi, plus neat Wick ice candy, raw tobacco leaves and herbs and olive brine. Personally, it is a little too grassy and could be even fruitier. Nevertheless, a great representative of Savanna Lord in pure form!🤤

Wow. Everything happens there. Long Pond Teca is the most similar style I can think of. Just young and fruity. Great stuff, there's so much going on at the back. Eucalyptus, incense, bananas, red cherries, esters, chemicals, meat, smoke. Wow. The price is completely justifiable.

Compared to the Edition Blanc Herr at a similarly high level but still very different. While the edition blanc achieves a lot with very few aromas, here we are back in savanna aroma overflow - but really really good. For those who can taste it: Yes, yes, yes.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang & Jakob, 2023-07-27 Teil 3: Ja, das ist eindeutig ein HERR, die Erdbeeren sind da, Ananas, Ester. Dazu angenehm würzig und holzig. Sehr komplex, lecker. Gegenüber dem HERR von LMDW etwas zahmer und weniger fruchtig.

Red fruits (sour cherries, strawberries) and vanilla on the nose, plus chewing tobacco and some menthol. Vanilla, tobacco and barrel on the palate. Long finish. Really good! Reminds me strongly of the CdI Savanna bottled for Gernany (RX308)

The rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favourites. I recommend everyone to try especially the higher ester pieces like Grand arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few little drops of liquid for a long time.

Minimal schlechter als LMDW 60 Years und die Restaurant Edition. Da fehlt der Japoniani die Fruchtigkeit. Aber trotzdem sehr guter HERR. Eisbonbon, Minze, Fass, etwas Erdbeere. Alkohol ist gut eingebunden.

Fruité herbacé olive saumure avec beaucoup de colle de vernis (un peu artificiel) et une pointe de vanille. HERR très intense !
Review by Oliver
Very good, balanced HERR. But I like the younger and fruitier LMDW better.

What a monster, a nose full of everything. Ester and red cherries, red fruits other kinds of. A bit of wood and nice. Palate explodes with fruits, herbal fresh notes of awesome. It goes just a bit into it's aging at the end of tasting. A monster and worthy for being the last.
