very solid TDL, mega awesome menthol chewing gum bomb, but definitely no Caroni 🤣 could just have a little more bang for me, but that's a matter of taste... What I find cool here 1 year later is the similarity to Japanese mochi balls green tea with matcha tea flavor. Very tart and green after green mandarin, rice cake, kalamansi and papaya etc. Really fun, super complex and palatable! Reminds me a lot of a Clarendon!

Great TDL, more on the minty and menthol side when compared to newer bottlings. Nice tea and a bit of dirt, like tar and rubber. Especially the peach note lifts this rum to that level for me. However, it doesn't reach the level of the newer 2001 RA bottling.

Tasted together with the TCRL 2001: Both are very mint forward, but still different. The nose from the RA is brute: much woodier, dirtier, smokier with some wet cardboard to it, less fresh overall. Some orange peel and bergamot can be found nonetheless. The nose from the TCRL is less intense but still more multi-faceted. In the mouth, the impression continues. The mint is less fresh, then menthol and gasoline. The wood brings a soft bitterness, anise and mace. The finish is again strong menthol, then the bitterness of lemon peel and coriander stalks. Besides the mint, the similarities to the TCRL are under the first dirty layer, but then are very apparent. I like the fruitier, more herbal and softer profile from the TCRL more. Edit. In crosstasting, I tried the RA, TCRL, Nobilis, Plantation Antipodes, and the new Rasta Morris. The rums are incredibly similar - esp. the Nobilis and RM are barely distinguishable. The RA stands out because of its dilution, the Plantation is clearly marked by the cognac barrel - it puts it closer to the 2003s - and the TCRL is the freshest, with an unusual herbal note. It was somewhat reminiscent of the 2002s. The RA also has the bitter citrus notes described above, which are less prominent in the other rums. My long open sample is starting to show some oxidation by now as well. Now it is empty 🥲

Plenty of mint, recognizable wood notes, tropical fruits and dark spices. The profile of the post-2000 TDLs with the now famous mint-menthol profile is shown here in its purest form. A rum at a great level, but in the meantime a few more representatives from Trinidad have been added that show this profile in an even more perfect form.

A dark side on the nose but also lots of freshness and tropical fruits, yellow fruits, yellow apple and starfruit. A lively attack on the palate, on the fruits. Then the herbal/menthol side takes over and doesn't let go. The finish is long but dominated by menthol and the herbal side. The empty glass exhales menthol and wood with a dried parsley side.

A highly atypical T.D.L. that is more Caroni than its own distillery. The nose is extremely similar to a Caroni: the dirty, petroleum notes leave an unmistakable impression on the nostrils. This impression is reinforced by the woodiness, with its hints of smoke, tanned leather and menthol. The fruit is more discreet, but still perceptible. Very disconcerting at first taste. The palate confirms the nose's preconceptions, with a strong empyreumatic taste, drawing on tar, burnt rubber and smokiness. Leather, licorice and herbs add unexpected bitterness, while spice and menthol give way to intense flavor. Fruit is virtually absent from the palate. The finish leaves that equally confusing and impressive sensation of a rum of the defunct style: it's bitter, herbaceous, mentholated, smoky, petroliferous but with a hint of exotic fruit. Clearly a rum that stands out from the traditional house style.

I really like the nose. Lots of mint and fruit and very intense. Also on the palate mostly menthol (mint), herbs and fruit (peach!?). From memory similar to the 2023 GRF release, maybe a bit more balanced. Edit: I like it better each time.

Tasted in comparison with other TDL 2001; RM, Flag, Nobilis, Plantation, Swell, 2 RA, TCRL, Cadenhead. 👃 Explosion of iced peach, full menthol nose, nice empyreumatic side on slight rubber and engine oil. Dark caramelized fruits, stewed, black tea, dried mint. Excellent integration of the alcohol. 😋 It blows your mind on all aspects of camphor (eucalyptus, menthol, fresh mint), prickles of lychee and acidic grapefruit. Then, lots of grilled, burnt wood, it's dirty, tires, glue, a medicinal side. ⛳ Long, woody, bitter, dry, herbal, even slightly peaty (hay, stable). Tarred cocoa if that's possible, mint, tea, bitter grapefruit. 🏅 I love it, it's complex, evolving, with a nice coherence from nose to finish. I maintain my score of 88+/100.

So a really amazing rum. On the nose glue, some herbs and menthol. On the palate also menthol, somehow medicinal and tastes like rubber, but really tasty :) Thanks Gunnar for the sample, the best so far ;-)

What a flavor bomb, mint, menthol and black tea meet something really dirty, tar, rubber, a horny ribeye with really a lot of fat. The aftertaste is like toothpaste what you can now love or hate. I like the rum much better than the "real" Caroni from RA.

2nd sample after about 1 year: Apparently my taste has changed. At that time it was much too woody for me. In the meantime, I find him very tasty. On the palate, a super blend of wood, black tea and lots of mint.

A lot of hype around this rum. Whether it is now a Caroni or not, I can not judge. There are definitely dirty notes present, also the minty note makes the whole exciting. In any case, a strong rum at a super price, whether Caroni or TDL / Angostura...

Wow. Fresh mint and menthol rise to the nose. Followed by dried, sulfured apricot. Very fruity with tart sweet currant and something artificially sweet like wine gum and HubaBuba. Spicy, with dried red pepper, woody toasty leathery. On the palate again directly mint and menthol. Fruity too, but a bit more subtle with currant and tangerine. Salty bitter and peppery, but still fresh and slightly resinous. Goes quickly also in the direction of green tea.He keeps it also in the finish with mint and spicy tart-sweet leather.Whether Caroni or not, a great he is!!!

Nose: Tropical fruit with decent sweetness. Meaty notes and tar and freshness. Palate: The mintiest rum I have ever drunk. But it has more to offer. Meaty, bacony notes and herbs. Verdict: Complexity from tropical fruit sweetness, meat and freshness is world class. I like it very much!

Again a beautiful selection from Rum Artesanal, this time in the form of T.D.L from 2001. On the nose there are peaches, mint, tea, but also quite a bit of “dirt.” The taste is pleasantly balanced and continues with peachy tones. Very pleasant.

Nice extra fruity profile with just low alcohol taste... Beautiful matte on the bottle under 100€. You can feel the alcohol, but very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginner rum lovers to discover new flavors. The mint from TDL is an unmistakable taste that you never get tired of.

Got a bit too much active cask, was it reworked with Virgin Oak? Unfortunately, the fruit notes are a bit too much in the background, mint and petrol are present. Still clearly behind the Rasta Morris TDL 2001 with 21 years, which for me is the best, most complex and nuanced TDL so far, and also "worse" than many 2003 TDLs, like the 18 yo Cadenhead or the CDI 2003 with 16 years.

Way up there among the top TDLs. Less % than the current bottling but the TDL profile with mint, fruit and smoke on point. The cask influence is noticeably not so high yet. The slightly dirty notes nicely underline the whole. For me, everyone still has to measure themselves against this classic.
