Saint James Brut de colonne - Bio 2020
One taster calls these unaged agricoles "angry little cane babies" — and then admits this Saint James is the rare one that's actually drinkable at full strength. Fresh-pressed cane and cut grass lead, with lime, pepper and a mineral streak underneath. At 74.2% the alcohol sits shockingly well-integrated; almost nobody finds it hot. Green, dry and intense, it shines neat and turns a ti punch into three.

Review by TheRhumhoe
A brut de colonne rum of great versatility. The nose is reminiscent of whole sugar cane, with the greenness, freshness and sweetness to match. Lime and olive notes are enhanced by spices and a slightly iodized tone. A nose of great delicacy for its extreme degree. The attack on the palate is intense, yet extremely round and balanced. Despite the 74.2%, the rum is beautifully complex and aromatically diverse. Citrus, pepper, sugarcane, mineral, floral and agricultural notes blend perfectly with the juice. Both dry and fresh, this is a rum that leaves no one indifferent. The finish is long, warm and powerful. Hints of greenery, olives and even a few spices (licorice in particular) add a touch of fantasy to this extreme ensemble. A rum that can be enjoyed very slowly, neat, but which can also prove to be an explosive mixologist's delight.

Brut de colonne agricoles is not for lightweights. They are brutal and angry little cane babies that want to hurt you. That's why I'm so impressed by this Saint James one that is actually drinkable at this strength. Deceptively inviting nose, you take a sip and then the violence starts. But unlike some others it doesn't become unbearable, actually even a little bit agreeable which is high praise for anything bottled at 74.2%. I like trying brut de colonne's precisely because they give you the raw DNA of the distillery and, I must say, Saint James have a champ on their hands. This is raw material you can work with for sure.

This rum is a real juice straight out of the cane which the sugar of it would have candied. Very vegetable notes (Green / Hay / Earthy / Sap / Olive / Grass), of citrus fruits (Lemon / Lime) which brings a beautiful freshness (Smooth), it is mineral, slightly spicy (Pepper / Cinnamon / Vanilla (at the end of mouth)), we also find a beautiful sweetness (Honey / Cooked sugar) In short we just have the impression to crunch in a cane gorged of sugar and sun it is very good and pleasant to drink!

Wow, just wow. This is an incredibly well balanced white rhum Agricole. One of the best ones I have ever tried. The nose is Agricole all the way. Grassy, earthy and sweet with a lot of nice olive. The palate is so intense with flavours that you don't feel the high proof. The flavours are fruity and again there is no doubt that this is am Agricole because the grassy and wet hay is there. The finish is very long and peppery with a hint of burnt sugar and licorice.

The 74% are top integrated on the nose as on the palate. Smell he does quite clearly of fresh sugar cane and something of banana. Tastefully, the nose is found again and is complemented by heavy notes of hazelnut, chocolate, pepper. I'm already looking forward to the Ti Punch 😋 In comparison with Pére Labat 59 and Dillon Brut de Colon the clear winner. The banana hazelnut combo gives it the win over the "mustier" Dillon.

Wow, a real power bomb. A truly intense white agricole but despite its strength pure is still good drinkable. Taste more floral, a few citrus notes, the sweetness of sugar cane comes through and really wonderful fresh and mineral. Then in the finish I found ne licorice snail 😁. And if you only drink one Ti Punch: Put this one in, it counts for three 😉

Even though I don't really see white rums on par with aged rums, this rum is a tasty change! Vegetable sugar cane notes dominate through and through, plus there are certain fruity notes like lime and sweet sugar cane. The high alcohol content makes this rum very sharp, so I think it should definitely be diluted a bit.

wow! my current Agricole blanc reference!🤤❤️ what an explosion in the mouth and that at 74% without being even remotely sharp or unpleasant. Ginger, saffron, licorice, sesame, green apple, currant and a certain minerality. incredibly velvety and intense. horny number! agricole finally times as I like it, was tested directly in the daiquiri and found extremely good!🤤🕺😅🇲🇶

This Saint James Brut de Colonne BIO is an important part in the distillery’s way of talking a bigger environmental responsibility. It’s distilled during one day 2020 in their Creole column and bottled Brut de Colonne without any alcohol reduction. Overall a great AOC Blanc which is extremely tasty if you let it rest a while in your mouth before you swallow it.

Second tasting: Very good white rum only slightly behind my reference Neisson L'Esprit RX1058. Tasted at the 12th GRF Very good Agricole! Experiment: put a piece of lime zest in the glass and wait 1 min... This rum has the necessary power for this experiment - as I learned in the Velier Tasting at the 12th GRF.

Tolle Sache.

What an insolent success! Don't look for less than 50 euros, you won't find such a successful brut de colonne.

Hervorragender weißer Agricole! Tolle Fruchtigkeit, Alkohol für die unfassbaren 74,2% erstaunlich gut eingebunden!
