On respire le meuble ancien de bois noble, des notes d’épices douces girofle, canelle, macis, poivre noir, attaque sèche puissante, sur les épices ligne nette racée une très belle bête !

Nose clear monymusk. Very soft and oily in the mouth. Intense wood flavors in the finish. Does not get tired of it though. Suits him. But I would never buy for the price. Tasty he is but.

Le jour 2 du calendrier Samples de et regoûté un an et demi après. Couleur miel de forêt et huileux. Un nez de vieux bois de cuir usé et de créosote avec des agrumes et de l’umami. Une bouche vive en alcool, mais aussitôt les arômes arrivent. Bienvenue dans un club anglais ! Le butler apporte un très vieux whisky dans une carafe en cristal sur un plateau d’argent. Cuir vieux, bois encaustiqué, tabac froid, feu de cheminée… La finale est longue et équilibrée, très boisée (mais je suis surpris par le vénérable âge de ce rhum). Un tout petit défaut à mon goût, un peu trop d’amertume sur la finale. Un rhum de légende ! J’avais parié sur un vieux Demerara. Verre vide c’est un festival d’arômes insoupçonnés ! Très beau, complexe et pourtant moins savoureux que son frère à l’étiquette rouge.

Un très vieux Clarendon qui en a sous le capot. Le nez se veut complexe et assez mystérieux, presque fermé. Beaucoup de notes boisées, d’épices et de cuir se manifestent au premier abord, puis des notes toastées par la suite. Esters et colle viennent apporter leur caractère médicinal, tandis que les fruits (fruits secs, banane, agrumes) tardent à venir, ne se faisant plus remarqués qu’après aération. On est sur un profil très sombre et amer en bouche. L’attaque est puissante, portée à la fois par des notes fruitées et acides et des épices très relevées. L’amertume arrive avec le chocolat noir, le cuir et un boisé sec et intense. La puissance alcoolique ne désemplit pas malgré la réduction. Clairement un profil jamaïcain atypique et tout aussi intense que les high esters. La finale est longue, sur une tonalité sombre et tannique, avec le cuir, le piment, le fût, les notes rôties, le chocolat noir, le café et des saveurs fruitées sur les fruits rouges, les fruits secs et les agrumes. Il y a une forte astringence sur ce profil. Étonnamment plus brut de décoffrage que son cousin Full Proof avec une puissance assumée, au détriment de quelques notes aromatiques, ce Clarendon reste un profil hors du commun.

It smells a little closed and incomplete, clarendon tart/acid, a little flat. Heavy woody tones, but only medium to heavy(Velier 69% > Velier 63.1% > TAA&TB 62%). Sherry hints are too dominant: sour, red fruit, prunes, dry prunes, mulled wine and ginger, spicy. Although rich and full, it is extremely monotonous and unbalanced.

Really very close to the red Sapiens. Woody here too, lots of menthol, slightly vinegar but less ostensible citrus note. Tobacco, leather and caramel cream candy. Fruit goes towards currant and green apple. Slightly soapy.Also very astringent but not as bitter as the other on the palate. Soapy citrus notes with violet and clove. Some caramel. Seems slightly green overall. Woody in the finish, green tea, hay.About more pleasing and less angular compared to the red Sapiens. But not worse...

A beautiful MM! A middle ground between the 97 and 95. However, the 95 remains my favorite.
