Chamomile tea & Wick menthol candies with fermented red grape must and some cinnamon, crazy stuff and typical Savanna, although a bit woodier & tannin-heavy than I'm used to. Lots of freshness and minty notes together with slightly floral notes and a slightly bitter acidity in the finish. But all in all a very very good Savanna Grand Arôme at a very fair price! By the way, definitely try it with dark chocolate with sea salt, the combo is just amazing with Savanna Grand Aromes!🤤🤤🤤

A nice savanna, that cannot compare to old distillery bottlings anyway. The profile is the usual one, esters and strawberry dominate the situation, the cask influence is relatively small due to the packs of flavour that this rum does have

Bought the bottle as a replacement for the recently tasted and electrifying but now only expensive to get RN Savanna 2007 12y (RX680), and I can blissfully say this rum is in no way inferior to its brother aged one year less continental (also previously 10 years tropical aging). A really great, recommendable rum, very nicely red-fruity and strong. Update 2023-04-01: And now the bottle is unfortunately empty... I had really grown fond of this strong rum. It just does everything right. Very characteristic is already the smell the rum immediately emits when pulling off the elegant glass stopper. You feel like you are on a tropical island in the Indian Ocean. Newly discovered in this tasting the presence of certain esters on the nose. But only quite subtle, underpinning the appealing overall impression. It definitely remains at 89 points. Farewell, my friend. Crosstasting 14.05.2023: RX9388: 75/100 RX300: 76/100 RX14156: 87/100 RX7316: 89/100 RX308: 90/100 RX219: 92/100 Update 2025-12-16: Small Savanna crosstasting with immediate assessment, so just briefly: Stable 89 points confirmed. Round and easy drinking, has a bit of everything, and exactly in the right dosage.

Savanna Grand Arome is written on it and that's exactly what's inside! What an awesome rum! What a great rum, its greatest strength is on the palate. With real power and a fruit basket filled and wrapped in smoke. The finish is long, but could be even longer xD The price for this bottling has unfortunately shot up. I really enjoyed this one 😎 Cool ester notes paired with various fruits (strawberry, pineapple, cherry) and some menthol minty notes, which reminds me on some fisherman‘s friend 😜😎 At the finish I found also a nice note of chamomille in the background😬🤤🫨

Pub Alte Post Witten February 2025. Here a great Savanna from Rum Nation. Nice nose consisting of glue, menthol and mint. On the palate then lots of esters, seems fermented, complex and overripe. Very tasty.

Unbelievably good! in the finish as if you had just sucked an Em-Eukal candy ready.the development from opening the bottle to the aftertaste is from front to back really nice! Mint / Menthol / Eucalyptus dominate the overall picture, with light strawberry tones in the background.one of my favorite rums so far!

A pretty exciting and especially very complex rum. In which even with as a trained master distiller the words to describe were missing. A little after wood stain I find. But not negative. Really very unusual. From the smell strongly reminiscent of Barbados. But in taste completely different

Typical Savanna profile with a lot of boom.Similar, but for not quite as good as the Savanna 2007 from CDI or the Thunderstruck. I found them both rounder. Slightly bitter on the palate.

Great Savanna tasting with Artur. Overripe and slightly sour yellow fruits, alcohol not quite integrated on the nose. But all well structured and harmonious. A nice entry on the palate, balanced, a bit bitter, vegetal and soft. A long finish with still yellow fruits but also tropical fruits and cedar wood.

This is a tasting from 2021 that ended in me buying a bottle for my shelf 😊 A dry and intens rum on the palate. Very well balanced between ABV, overripe fruit and the light wood with some roasted notes.

I already like it very much on the first sniff. The typical Savanna fruit spectrum with aromas of strawberry, pineapple, and olive is expanded by apple, cherry, and plum and blends harmoniously with barrel aromas such as spicy oak with moderate tannin contribution, dark chocolate, mint, tobacco, cinnamon, and earthy Pu-Erh tea. This especially makes me think of a cognac spiced up with esters on the palate. A wonderfully round and extremely drinkable Grand Arôme!

I really wasn’t expecting this rum to be on such a high level (nose and taste wise) as I never had much interest in sampling Savannas. This rum totally changed my opinion. The mix of overripe fruit, tea, glue and mint is extremely lovely to the nose. I could smell the glass for hours. The taste adds a nice complexity and wood. Really amazing 🤩

The second secret Santa sample from Moritz. Tried once, chewing gum came through quickly and Savanna was set. Thanks 😊 On the nose quite a bit of tea, we have glue, some fruit. I like it, others would probably just wrinkle their noses 😄 On the palate immediately strawberries, chewing gum then quite a bit of overripe fruit and spice. Noticeable menthol and mint and indeed also slightly meaty in taste. Finish then wonderfully pleasantly warm again the strawberry, predominantly dry. Alcohol is also clearly noticeable due to the high ABV, so very small sips are recommended, which only increases the enjoyment. A class rum and also my last for this year. Thanks to the community that makes this variety possible.

4 Savannas in a cross comparison: Winner is the CDI 2007, nice intense GA profile with slight wood and good balance. Close behind is the Rum Nation with a similar profile but a bit more one-dimensional. 3rd place and winner of the heart: Easy Peasy from Swell, despite the young age clearly a GA with everything that belongs, surprisingly good to drink and round. Far behind is the Unshared for Germany, quite boring in direct comparison. But it is also a Traditional.

Again a very good Savanna. Although only my second, both were very good. But compared to the (RX300), it ranks behind it. But you have to admit that only nuances make the difference why the other is ahead.

Today for comparison, two Grand Arome. Rum Nation vs. Elois. Both absolutely excellent typical Grand Arome. In my opinion, the RA is clearly better! More fruity, longer finish, and the alcohol is better integrated.

I've heard a lot about Savanna rums, but only recently got to sample them. And I can see why this rum has a high rating. I don't like "medicines", but here I liked it extremely 😀 But these aromas and tastes later subsided and I got a beautifully complex rum in the glass, where I could smell wood, menthol, tea, fruit, esters and dark chocolate. A beautiful aroma that changes in the glass, a perfect complex taste and a long finish that will warm you up. I will definitely try other rums from this brand.

Strong Grand Arome. Alcohol very well integrated, great fruit notes (strawberry, pineapple) with a fine menthol note. Also reminds me a bit of ice candies. Overall very finely balanced.

The two 2007 Grand Aromas in cross-tasting. This bottling is clearly rounder and more accessible than the GA tasted in parallel. The nose invites with many spices, some glue, berries, chewing gum and caramel, later also chocolate and sweet mango. On the palate relatively much wood and spices but also tropical fruits. The Rx680 is much more brutal on the nose and reminds me strongly of the NRJ TECC/TECA. Plenty of glue, varnish, but also menthol, cinnamon, tropical fruits, chewing gum, esters and other spices. On the palate slightly astringent and bitter, chewing gum, esters, caramel, spices and tropical fruits. Both great releases, but very different and definitely worth trying again calmly (without the Savanna HERRs).

28-03-2026 - Rate 8.7 The evening was finished with 3 different Rum Nation Savanna rums. All were really good and hard to keep apart. This one was my least favorit. Rest of the party was more into the cask 436 edition

Overwhelmingly charming sweet aroma. But like it has two faces, a sharp and stimulating taste follows, ending with a punky finish that stimulates the senses. Seems like a style of rum that can be a bit tiring to drink daily. Too intense, it would have been better if it was a bit softer. Aroma: old banana, raspberry, wild strawberry, raisin, tobacco leaf, honey, pear. Overwhelmed by a colorful feast of matured fruit aromas. I think it stood out at Tokyo Rumba before thanks to this intense aroma. Taste: sharp and spicy, leather notes especially strong. Not so much strong alcohol but a tingling on the tongue. Slightly sweet with nuances of brown sugar but also a bit bitter like powdered medicine. Pear juice, oak notes dryly wrap the tongue. Finish: musty smell, spicy rush comes momentarily and quickly fades.

Rums from the Savanna distillery are among my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-heavy pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in just a few drops of liquid for a long time.

Tasted today against RX20991. A nice Savanna Grand Arome, especially for under 100 euros that I paid for it. The typical markers like a nice fruitiness and the typical Savanna wood stain are present. Compared to RX20991, however, it clearly loses out and seems like an easy sipper next to it. Still a nice release, but personally I wouldn't pay secondary market prices around 180€ for it.

Nose: It was jumping out of the sample bottle, in the glass it's a bit more restrained/closed. At least compared to the CDI GA for Rumstylez. Glue, red gummibears, a winey note... Mouth: Darker than the CDI. Lesss funky. More compact. Rather a lingering heavy wine note than the cognac cask. Finish: Longer than the CDI. Probably can still taste it after brushing my teeth... very intense. Now this is what I would have expected from the RDL "Grand Arôme" Wine Cask finish. The aromas are not as sublime as in other grand arômes, but the finish is eternal. Very good. Is this still available somewhere?

A complex one, maybe to complex for me to give a rating. Medicinal noise and taste, but with enough time the berries an all the other tastes are coming through. I would say, it needs at least to rest for 20 minutes. The nose has such a strength, that the whole room will smell like. Alcohol could be a bit better integrated.

I tried to avoid this rum for so long, but now it is my new lizzardy friend. Aroma is almost jamaican. I noticed esters, some overriped fruit (banana and pineapple), little bit of vanilla and nail polish. Really dominant was smoke (there is so much smoke) and wood. Taste is interesting (let say that). Jamaica (esters, fruits) with lot of smoke and wood. There was some sweet note, in my opinion combination of cinnamon and orange. The most dominant flavor were spices and smoke. For me finish is long and again spicy/smoky/woody. Very good rum. It is something else to be honest, this is not rum for a “rum rookie”, cause it is very complex, in a way heavy but very interesting. For me it is combination of some good jamaican rum and Ron Cristóbal rum Islay (smoooke).

The smell reminds me Jamaican Agricole rums, but this one is more rounded and softer. You can smell fruits - pear the most with no alcohol strong aroma. The taste is very soft at the beginning, but after few seconds those 62% of alcohol are well known. You can distinguish leather, vanilla, cacao and exotic fruits (probably passion fruits). The aftertaste is dry and you can still savour the leather/cacao - after few minutes the taste change a little and you can recognize toffee even though the rum was dry, now it started to change and I would bet this rum is not so dry but nicely sweet. Marvelous piece of work.
