Metallic, sal,, salty-licorice — that's the note that comes up again and again here, and it splits people hard. Most tasters find this Paraguayan column-still rum awkward: a sour, coppery edge over caramel and wood, with a burnt short finish. A minority get cocoa, cloves and candied orange and genuinely enjoy it. The majority verdict is that it just doesn't come together.

Most helpful positive review
I was very impressed by this double barreled rum from Paraguay. An exceptional medium bodied dark amber rum with a complex fusion. The initial nose is warming and redolent. Cloves cinnamon candied orange peel and vanilla . A slightly lactic tang brings to mind a carrot cake ; extremely inviting. On the palate spicy and dry , layers of cocoa, caramel and spices. A strong incienso marrón wood and oak is more inviting than challenging. The structure is coherent. The finish is long smooth clean and supple. There is an appetising bitter cocoa note and it goes down like spiced Mexican hot coco, warming but restraint. Excellent sipping rum.

The reviews pretty much say it all. Slightly sweet on the nose, but somehow very salty. I also find it really salty on the palate, very metallic. Hard to describe, definitely not a good rum.

It doesn't live up to what the packaging and the eight years suggest. Caramel, vanilla, dried fruits, and a strange sour, metallic note create a profile that doesn't seem particularly harmonious. Interesting to try, but not a rum you absolutely have to have in your glass.

The aroma is more from the agricole pond. Fresh, even herbal. I have no problem with that at all. Taste is quite grassy, vegetal with spices. Let's say something between Caribbean agricole and cachaça. The finish is again quite vegetal with clove and maybe licorice, I'm not quite sure. A more ordinary piece, but for me no disaster.

Another calendar from the Rum and Co calendar. El Supremo 8 years, very sweet caramel and toffee on the nose, very spicy and a bit woody on the palate. All in all not really my taste.

24 Days of Rum Calendar – Black Edition 2024 – Day 16 First impression: Cocoa and yeast, could be interesting but also a bit odd Nose: Cocoa, yeast, slightly overripe fruits Palate: Wood, vanilla, slightly metallic aromas that give an uneven impression Finish: Burnt but luckily only short Overall impression: uneven, disturbing aromas on the nose and palate, not acceptable to me – neither neat nor in mixers. Tak toto mi teda vôbec nesadlo. Asi najhoršia vzorka z 2024 kalendára. Vôňa maximálne odpudivá, jediné pozitívum je náznak čokolády. Chuť, tak tá je hádam ešte horšia ako vôňa. Spočiatku kyslá, kovová ktorá následne prechádza do pelendrekovej chute. Veľmi mi to pripomína Švédske slané pelendrekové cukríky Svenskjävlar (Švédsky bastardi) s príchuťou chloridu amonného teda NH4Cl. Kto neochutnal, nepochopí :D Každopádne aj pri nich som sa držal pravidla raz a dosť. Ochutnal som, no už sa to opakovať nebude. Finish je pomerne dlhý po pelendreku aka slanom jódovom licoricovom cukríku.
