Plantation Extrême No. 4 2007

Sipped neat with plenty of air, this column-still Saint Lucia leans into burnt sugar, caramel and roasted coffee, with clove and pepper spice and a touch of glue. Several tasters find it atypical for the island — closer to a heavy Spanish-style rum than the pot-still St. Lucias they know. Give it fifteen minutes to open and the ripe peach and cherry come forward.

How does Plantation Extrême No. 4 2007 taste?

Aggregated from 44 community reviews.

Spicy, caramel-heavy column St. Lucia Well-liked but rarely loved. Most call it tasty and spicy with concentrated caramel, though many feel it lacks the concentration and dirty depth of St. Lucia's pot-still bottlings, and the finish rides on alcohol.

Perfect for

People who want an intense, spicy, high-ABV rum and are open to an atypical St. Lucia

Less suitable for

Fans of St. Lucia's dirty pot-still funk, or anyone wanting sharp concentration

A ste Lucie dominated by the woody profile of a Bourbon cask. It reminds me of the 2005, only more powerful. The nose is dominated by roasted nuts, tobacco, a veil of solvent, almond and a little milk chocolate. On the palate, it's a little livelier, with some fruit not far behind but struggling to make itself heard... It's still a very good gourmet rum, but for the same price it's not what I'd buy on Ste Lucie.

Good, but not perfect. It's like a very intense Spanish style, with lots of wood ibfluence and Spices. You have to let this breathe a while, to be able getting the fruitier components behind the alcoholic burn. Also, this takes well to some additional water.

I just returned from a luxury tasting I was invited to and I'm actually a bit tipsy this time because all the rums had a high proof. This tasting was Plantation extreme only and this is the third one of the six. This one was far better than the previous one. It may be an atypical Saint Lucia rum, but it balances pretty well. Leave in the glass for a while to get all the flawours. Price to quality is OK.

Very exciting. Differs from other bottlings from Saint Lucia. In the finish really nice dry and astringent. Otherwise, I somehow missing something that highlights the rum for the price.

Top notch / interesting column rum. While I do prefer St Lucia‘s Pot Still rums, I‘m surprised how much I enjoy this one.

Beautiful Lucia, but it still can't outdo other Masters Selection etc.. I miss the heavy, dirty notes and some power

Very pleasing and pleasant. But thereby also almost boring and consistent. The price is in no way justified for me.

Saint Lucia Distillers

Avg Rating 8.2/10 over 230 Rums

St. Lucia Distillers is the island's only distillery and one of the most versatile in the Caribbean. Four stills give it eight different distillates, molasses and cane juice, pot and column, which its blenders turn into everything from the humble Bounty to the cult Chairman's Reserve and the super-premium Admiral Rodney. It rebuilt itself after an arson fire and is now owned by the same group as Martinique's J.M and Clement.
