Enmore Flensburg Rum Company Guyana (Kirsch Whisky) KFM 1991
Sip this one slow and neat, on a quiet evening — it's not a mixer and not a beginner's pour. The nose is where everyone agrees: tobacco, black tea, leather, dried prunes and old oak, deep and endless. The palate turns dry and seriously bitter — black tea, dark chocolate, mocha, tannins, a cooling mint edge. Almost no fruit, lots of wood. A polarizing wooden-still Enmore that rewards patience.
The community says- Overwhelming nose
- Deep tea & tobacco
- But: Very bitter palate

Very cool dark color 😎 Nose: Amazing notes of tobacco, oak, licorice, leather and a lot of rubber. I found some dried prunes and raisins too. After 20-30 min. of resting, I found some cool notes of cumin😜 On the palate: Woody, salty and bitter, oak (a lot of woodiness), herbal notes, minty, black tea, leather and licorice. Finish: Is quite long and bitter, without getting astringend. It’s more one the enjoyable side😜It’s like a woody cocktail (with all the various notes) with some pencil shavings as crumbles 😜

Nose: good. Clearly more aromas than on the palate! Taste: Unfortunately, the wood almost covers all aromas. Furry-dry.

Tobacco, leather, wood, tea. And lots of it. I love it. 😜

Great nose with some smoke. Quite bitter and tart on the palate. But not unpleasant. Unfortunately a tad too thin on the finish for a top rating.

8,5:On the nose, moist tobacco, black tea, quite strong flowery touch, wet roasted wood with leather, Cola, dark, caramelized Demerara sugar, prunes, raisins and citrus, tropical fruits, perhaps rubber, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dark tones continue their journey like cocoa, roasted nuts, the presence of oak is obvious, so pencil shavings are close, some nutmeg and from fruits banana and lime peel, at last eucalyptus. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is tasty, slightly bitter, tannic with various roasted wood notes like leather, chocolate, caramel, later Demerara sugar and roasted nuts, mocha, spicy with nutmeg, anise, the molasses is dark with black tea, herbaceous and minty, pairing dried fruits like prunes, dates and raisins, citrus fruits.A really thick palate, but complex, joined by menthol on oxidation. 8,6:The finish is long, dry and tannic, quite oaky, so furry, the dark molasses is pairing dark roasted wood notes, on the other side various yellow fruits, mango, banana, cherry and dried fruits. Edit:7.4.26

Strong malt beer/bitter/leather couch/black tea/mocha/licorice & a bit of mint, lots of tannins, slightly salty, very bitter, lots of wood but zero fruit. Somehow it also feels diluted and thin. Relatively quick finish. The new Flensburg kfm definitely delivers better here.

You either love it or you don't.... This is a heavy dark rum with intense flavors of long steeped tea, mocha, wood influence, tobacco, leather and dried red fruits... with a lovely long finish. The perfect rum for a relaxing evening on the sofa
Review by TheRhumhoe
An Enmore KFM that's very greedy and tasty. The nose is very sweet, initially floral, grassy and earthy (tobacco), followed by dried fruit (prunes) and plum, before a deluge of spices and smoky notes invade the nostrils. Greedy notes of toffee and cola follow after aeration. The attack on the palate is subtle, but no less expressive, with the typical bitterness provided by leather notes, roasted and spicy aromas and grassy, tobacco notes lending character to this fine profile. Black tea, dark chocolate and mocha also contribute to the sweetness. The finish is long and bitter, with the same spicy, woody and minty notes. A very fine Enmore, very low in alcohol but just as good and complex.

A good bit more bitter than the 2021 KFM. Great complexity, somewhat toastier and with notes of long steeped tea, which evokes associations of bitterness. Rum at a high level with a truly unique selling point in the tea notes. Understandably one of the most talked-about releases of 2020, even if there are better representatives of the KFM marc.

Typical 91 KFM – a very bitter profile dominated by old wood, tea, bitterness, medicinal notes of iodine bandages, dirtiness and dried fruits. I really like the profile. It's very cool, but not my favorite from the vintage... the Bellamy’s remains my favorite here. Also because of the ABV advantage.

Sour watery leather. Edit- sh*t tail. Yes, really.. ..Enmore - a drive distillery, now only a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have a flavor of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excites lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very strong and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

Overwhelming nose. Lots of leather, black tea, tobacco, dark chocolate and some rubber. These notes are also found on the palate, complemented by some honey and vanilla. Long finish with a cool mix of sweetness and bitterness. Great KFM.

Definitely not for everyone, but somehow cool! Even after tasting it again: I think it's kind of cool.
Review by Leo Krüper
Very bitter. Very full-bodied. Not an easy rum, rather for advanced Guyana lovers.

Yeah, what happened here - the reviews diverge extremely - I guess this mix of black tea, umami, and malt doesn't please everyone but totally suits my taste and reminds me of the better version of the JackTar Enmores from the giveaway. I don't think this rum lacks complexity at all - on the contrary, and I don't really taste an unpleasant bitterness here even though there are definitely some bitter herbal notes. On the palate, it disappears very quickly but leaves very pleasant long-lasting tea notes in the finish - you could almost draw a parallel to cough syrup. Although it seems rather thin due to the low ABV, I absolutely cannot say that about the immediate aroma density. Many thanks to Gunnar for the sample!

A really dark rum that, apart from the classic dried plum on the nose, has almost no fruit aromas. Instead, the dark aromas like black tea, mocha, leather, roasted notes, and wood are all the stronger and harmonize super well with the mint.

Enmore Oldman Spirit is a rich and distinctive rum. On the nose you smell dark wood, a bit of rubber and dry spices with a hint of fruit. The taste is oily, full, starting slightly sweet but quickly turning dry, with notes of leather, tobacco and bitter chocolate. The finish is long, spicy and slightly bitter.
Review by Johannes
The nose is really good. But on the palate, the kfm is somewhat thin and especially extremely bitter, coating the tongue for a long and unpleasant time. Even after multiple tastings, I can't rate the rum better because it doesn't suit my taste.

The FRC KFM - a lot has already been written, discussed and argued about this rum. I can largely agree with the common opinion: Incredible nose, bitter and otherwise boring palate. The nose promises complexity, heaviness, dark aromas, red or dried fruits and also plenty of wood. You can sniff here forever without it getting boring. The palate offers mainly two things: bitterness and otherwise thin taste. Behind that mainly roasted aromas - coffee, dark chocolate and plenty of wood. This bottling is not bad per se. But for me not particularly good either, as the palate is usually more important to me than the nose. The nose alone would probably easily play in the 90-point league, but the palate not at all. Shame.

After sampling this rum I went to Flensburg during the weekend and picked up this bottle and the slightly younger one as well. The nose is very intense and comes as soon as you open the bottle. Barrel and dried fruit hit first. Then the is tea, maybe even black tea with tobacco and a bit of rubber. The palate is heavy and complex and lives up to the nose. Slightly bitter with chocolate and spicy (pepper) some tannins and coffee hidden in there as well. In the end there is roasted cedar wood. The finish is long and spicy, slightly bitter and with some wood.

On the nose this is amazing, unfortunately it falls a bit on the taste. Also with 45.4% it lacks some power, but that's complaining at a high level. The finish is great again with a mix of bitterness, tea and roasted aromas.

What an insanely great nose: intensely spicy-woody. Dark fruit, dried plum, raisin and blackberry, slightly sulfurous and a bit soapy. Then the oak barrel, slightly smoky-roasty, malty. Buttery caramel candy and cola. Dark, slightly sour chocolate. On the palate it is initially strongly salty-bitter, then builds up sourness, and finally settles into a bitter woody-spicy profile. There is black tea, nutmeg, cardamom, some mocha, slightly minty. It stays like that in the finish. Something very special and noble. Concentrated at 45%, not diluted. You can taste that!

And old KFM from 1991. Nose opens on dried fruits such as dried plums and raisins, but it's also darker with tobacco, black tea and wood. The palate is quite interesting, I get moka first, wood, a hint of menthol and the dried fruits are further in the back. The lower ABV makes it easier to sip on despite the wood tannins, but it also makes it a bit thinner and shorter on the finale.
Review by Timo Groeger
A very dark rum. In nose and palate you get leather, tobacco and black tea flavors. I agree with Oliver, Hinterhaus is too bitter for me, which prevents a better rating. Thanks to Gunnar for the sample.

Here is a sublime representative of those old dark Guyana rums as desired. The nose is rather fruity at first. Then notes of tobacco, wood. It’s both heavy and indulgent. On the palate, very surprised by the menthol and chili that accompany the wood, black tea, and a nice bitterness. A very surprising saline note at the end of the mouth. Very nice length, with wood and prune. Superb.

Absolutely fantastic.

Strange, now I have two samples of supposedly the same rum here and yet they are slightly different. One has more coffee aromas on the nose and more mint and alcoholic power on the palate (in a positive sense). Maybe one of the bottles was open longer... Anyway, both very tasty, exactly what I expected from a KFM. And although I'm usually a wood wimp, the strong wood doesn't bother me at all here. On the contrary, that's how it should be.

Wow, at the nose immediately very dark, strong, intense, complex!!! A real bomb! On the palate then many bitter tones appear, black tea, tannins, dark chocolate, leather. Very complex still. I miss a bit of fruit on the palate. Still a very complex rum. 👍🏼

Tasted alongside its twin from Nobilis. What a class nose, heavy, oily, dried fruits in spicy wood. On the palate, on equal footing, here more towards polish, with the Nobilis more rubbery. The roughly 6% less alcohol doesn't matter. Two great KFM's. For me, this one wins the race thanks to its top nose. 👍🏻🤘🏻
