OWH is one of the estate's lower-ester marks, so the glue-and-varnish punch is dialed back — instead you get grapefruit, figs, dates and a light woody dryness. Thanks to Johannes it was possible to do this little Birds Flight. In the race were 2x OWH, 5x LFCH (including the HV LFCH mixed) and 2x LROK. As a conclusion from my side, from LROK they are more fun, the low ester faction is okay. In my opinion, the Birds are not worth the money, rather a collector's item. I can't really recognize big differences.

27.03.2021 A nice Velier tasting thanks to my friend Cheng from Singapore. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Intense, light wood, fruity, banana, light olive, light varnish, faint floral. Palate Oily, warm, fruity, orange, tannins, light olive, light salty, spice, light floral. Finish Medium to long, warm, wood, fruits, light orange, faint smoke, light floral. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while of the ABV ruins the full experience.

A bit woodier and drier than I expected after the last spinner. I wish it had more oatmeal, it's a bit too smooth for a Jamaican. It's not a bad rum, but given the price, I don't need it again.

This bird is interesting - some of the Hampden markers are there and present - but less esters for sure as the OWH mark suggest and less appealing at least to me than others of the series. Makes a agreeable drink in any case 😉

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Beautiful Hampden !! Very dynamic, a lot happens if you take a real time to enjoy it and play with it.

Lemon, grapefruit and solvent aromas, with the sweetness of caramelized vanilla. Lively on the palate, with fairly soft wood, ester takes its place with herbaceous notes, grapefruit is sprinkled with light brown sugar.
