8,9:On the nose, esters, citrus and banana, briny olive, grass, cereal, roasted wood notes like cream toffee, pastry, spicy vanilla, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses brings black tea, sweet honey, new wave of fruits arise like apricots, orange peel, creamy caramel, chocolate, leather, smokiness. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with nail polish, glue, slightly metallic, fruity with banana and pineapple, orange peel, green fruits and apricots, the apple is baked, the wood is roasted with pastry, spicy vanilla, nuts, spicy with allspice, as the molasses is dark with licorice, fresh with tea, flowery, vegetal with briny olive. 8,8:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with roasted wood notes, smoky, spicy, pairing molasses, flowery, dark with black tea, sweet with honey, grassy with hay and yellow, green, tropical, citrus fruits. 27.03.2021 A nice Velier tasting thanks to my friend Cheng from Singapore. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, light polish, faint grass, light floral, faint chocolate. Palate Warm, wood, light smoke, fruity, pineapple, light caramel, faint chocolate, light olive, faint salt, light floral. Finish Medium long and warm, wood, pineapple, faint chocolate, light floral, spice. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while or the ABV will cover the full experience.

What a fantastic Hampden OWH! A wonderfully funky Black Bird. I love this one; a fresh, fruity nose with a hint of woody notes. On the palate, a funky explosion dominated by citrus, a touch of olive, and green apple. It's also full and creamy on the palate. The finish is long, and the alcohol is well-integrated.

This rum needs to sit in the glass for a while before sipping. On the nose: Woody, smoky and leather notes with vegetal and olive notes. There are also citrus notes on the back and maybe some banana notes too. Taste: Woody, roasted and spices. Quite alcoholic at first, even after 15 minutes of sitting in the glass. Then you get vanilla notes, light chocolate notes. Citrus notes. It gets better when you hold it in your mouth. Finish: Woody, roasted,chocolate notes. Floral/herbal notes come after that. Dry. Medium finish. Its a pretty good rum once you learn how to work with it. The integration of alcohol should be better for a rum in this price range. My advice is to try before (maybe) buying.

A top OWH at unfortunately absurd prices. The Black Bird brings a pleasant, slightly creamy mouthfeel. The alcohol is well integrated. Nice citrus fruit note, green apple, light grape, pleasant acidity, some wood, some olive. What more could you expect from an OWH... Well, maybe different prices.

Today I compared two bottlings from the Endemic Birds series again. The White Eyed Thrush and the Black Bird. Both low ester. The price for both is way too high. For me, the Blackbird wins by far.

Outstanding nose of the Black Bird OWH. Apricot, citrus fruits, wood and an enormous amount of freshness. On the palate the same, only the alcohol needs a little air... so preferably wait about 30 minutes before tasting. Then it is perfect. Almost a 9....
