Lighter and fruitier than most clairin, this one leans into grated apple and pear rather than the raw funk you might brace for. It's a Casimir cane-juice rum finished in an ex-Caroni cask, and a few tasters do catch faint dirty, smoky notes creeping through. At 50% it's warm and a touch thin at first, with cardamom, anise and a long fruity finish. Young but likable.

Most helpful positive review
My second Clairin matured in a Caroni cask. Casimir instead of Sajous. Nose: intense and tasty, slightly fermented fruit, some vinegar, lightly smoky and artificially burnt (the Caroni dirtiness essence). The sweetness leans more towards caramel, the fruit towards sweet-sour currant with gooseberry, and I also think I detect some freshness from mint. Is there also some green pepper? Palate: initially a bit thin, then comes a slight salty note directly to anise, fennel seeds, and cardamom. A certain sweetness like watery syrup. Nutty sesame and herbs at the back. Overall not as round as the Sajous, somewhat more bitter with less Caroni on the palate. Also very nice overall.

#4101 This is a really nice rum especially thinking about the age and price tag. Intense and fruity yet fresh. The palate is warm/spicy and the flavours stick for a very long time. Overall balance is really good. The empty glass is also nice it has some mineral and smoky notes to it.

My second Clairin and this one convinces me more. Fruity, light and with floral hints, so I almost want to say easy-drinking. Clear esters on the nose, although far from what you know from other countries, so the fruity impression clearly predominates here. Not bad for such a young rum with still 50%, I like it! Edit: Somehow I have the impression of tasting some dirty notes. Is it the ex-Caroni cask? Is it imagination? In any case, it rounds off the taste further.

Color: Straw Smell: Sweet and creamy with many fruit esters. Smells of grated apple and pear. Taste: Sweet and fruity in the mouth like pear. When swallowing still very fruity. Also spicy with vanilla and sandalwood. Finish: Sweet, spicy and fruity. Medium length Super tasty 87 points
