Long Pond Plantation Extreme No. 4 CRV 1996
Don't expect the wild funk the "Extreme" name promises — this Long Pond is barely esterified. Instead you get a rich, gourmand glass: mango, coconut crème brûlée, dried fruit and dark chocolate, with the bourbon and cognac casks rounding every edge. Fans of Foursquare-style fruitiness will feel at home. The catch: at 60% the wood and alcohol turn a bit sharp for some.
The community says- Ripe tropical fruit
- Well-integrated alcohol
- But: Almost no funk

How does Long Pond Plantation Extreme No. 4 CRV 1996 taste?
Aggregated from 31 community reviews.
Fruity, cask-forward old Long Pond, low funk Loved as a smooth, fruity old Long Pond, but many feel misled by "Extreme" — the ester and funk are almost absent, and some find the wood and heat sharp.

Most helpful positive review
Very good Long Pond profile but not so expressive and Extreme afterall.

Good, but a little boring. In my opinion, it's not one of the long ponds that you have to try.
Review by Galli33
Classic Long Pond in the nose, the 60% abv is also noticeable. In mouth it‘s more rounder, delicious, fruitier. Really hamonious mix of aging, wood, alcohol. Finish is in line with other long ponds. Nonetheless I missed something (non ester?!?). The alcohol is integrated very well. Price tag is too high.

Remindes me of a (high quality) column still rum tbh. It is definitely a high quality, well aged rum. However, the profile is very bourbon cask forward andro me just not very exciting overall.

I just returned from a luxury tasting I was invited to and I'm actually a bit tipsy this time because all the rums had a high proof. This tasting was Plantation extreme only and this is the first one of the six. This is a great one from Plantation and with its 24 years you get what you expect. I would have liked a bit more fruit and funk though. The longer you leave it in the glass the fruitier it gets. Price to quality is very good.

The nose is extremely fruity (not at all alcoholic). It's a far cry from the very expressive High ester, closer to the gourmet noses of Foursquare. There's banana, orange and spice all over the place. Attractive. On the palate, it's in line with the nose, rich and powerful with fruit. The fruit salad intensifies as the tasting progresses, with gourmet coconut as the final firework. It's clearly a great success, with a gourmet profile that's very accessible and easy to drink despite the 60%. A rum for pleasure tasting!

Woody, burnt aromas predominate on the nose. There is also (port) wine and dried fruit. The taste drops off somewhat. Wood and dried fruit here too. The alcohol is rather moderately integrated. Unfortunately, the overall impression is not completely convincing.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Very tasty and relaxed Long Pond with almost zero esters... Alcohol well integrated, not too much wood after 24y... Coconut crème brûlée, plus fully ripe velvety mango and passion fruit, grape and clove/cinnamon, similar to a very good old cognac. However, considering the price, it is a bit hefty for an old Long Pond, I expect more ester and more funk. All in all, however, very, very tasty!

Très très très bourbon, le jam est perdu c’est dommage, ça reste gourmand et un très bon bourbon/ profil barbadien, vanille coco à foison, petite note cacao
Review by Speedflo
In the nose very aromatic with typical Lomg Pond wood, barrel, leather, dark chocolate notes and fruity. In the mouth, however, rather disappointing. Very watery, short-breathed and not enough oomph. I'm glad I didn't buy a whole bottle.
Review by Sebastian Kornett
Jamaican on the nose. Very strong and spicy on the palate. Nice long and balanced finish. Nice Long Pond but I wouldn't buy it for the price. There are some that cost half or a third and are just as much fun.

Nose : spicy, orange, alcohol Mouth : since I could smell the alcohol I was afraid it would bite, it does but not as much as I thought. The 60 feels like 55. Mouth is in line with the nose, no surprise. The wood is a bit sharp. Final : Medium, orange spice creamy Overall : 95% like a Don Q cognac cask with a bit more strength/flavor but again, 500€ for that is... Extreme
