Most tasters agree the whisky-cask finish runs the show here — this 27-year Uitvlugt tastes more like an Islay single malt than a Demerara rum. Peat, smoke, wet wood and a medicinal, iodine edge dominate, with the classic Port Mourant profile pushed into the background. At nearly 52% the alcohol sits well hidden. A few loved the smoky harmony; several wished they'd tried it without the peat.

👃 Obvious peat, herbal smoke, hospital corridor, antiseptic, candied lemon, iodine, starfruit, cinnamon apple, Napoleon cherry, peppery spices, oily and honeyed sensation, vanilla caramel, wood and damp earth. A real whisky... Oops it's a rum 😅 😋 Peat, smoke of coal and wet twigs, candied and burnt lemon, light hay, peppery spices, cooked vanilla, poached apple and pear, anise. Medicinal taste, gauze strips with antiseptic, sour and acidic sensation of food vinegar. ⛳ Warm, peaty, dry smoke, spicy, herbal, dried anise, grassy, iodine, citrusy, vinegary, oily. Bitter sensation, very dry, as if biting directly into cooking spices. 💡 Here is a Plantation Extrême subject to controversy. I find the community's opinions quite harsh on this Uitvlugt boosted with Islay peat. Yes, it's surprising and disorienting, but I find the aging overall well done. However, it lacks complexity and the characteristic profile of the "Eye-Flute" is a bit too subdued to get a higher score. 📝 Being as objective as possible, if you look for this type of profile, check out the Laphroaig CS 10 years, a batch 9 or 14 still accessible, or the very recent Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength.

I just returned from a luxury tasting I was invited to and I'm actually a bit tipsy this time because all the rums had a high proof. This tasting was Plantation extreme only and this is the second one of the six. Oh dear, this one is dominated by peat and it's hard to get past. At least in the finish the peat is overpowered by other flawours. This is a disappointing one and the price doesn't stand the distance.

Tasting a sample prepared for some time, well aired, left in the glass 20 minutes before tasting. The whisky clearly takes over everything else. You clearly feel leather first and peat in the background both on the nose and on the palate. It’s not unpleasant but it clearly removes the rum from this tasting. The finish is average, peaty, very whisky-driven which directed this tasting from start to finish... a pity considering the bottle’s price!

Appearance: Pale gold with fine tears. Nose: We are right in the heart of Port Morant, the damp woodiness is omnipresent. It's beautiful, it's good. It's smoky, it's woody. But what was predictable then happens because you can sense the peaty touch from the whisky cask aging. You can smell ripe olives and herbal notes. On the palate: it's oily, it coats the entire palate. It's iodized, smoky, woody. It's an atypical rum, not at all alcoholic. It's really well integrated. I'm just frustrated not to have tasted it without this whisky cask aging because the peaty length persists.
