Industria Licorera de Caldas Ron Viejo de Caldas Añejo 3 Años
What surprises most people here is how little there is: a light, thin Colombian column-still rum that shows up with green apple, a touch of tropical fruit and a mild sweetness, then vanishes almost instantly. Several tasters mention a musty, faintly metallic or plastic note. As one put it, "nothing bad, nothing special" — an everyday, easy-drinking pour rather than something to sit with.

Thin, mild, forgettable everyday mixer Most tasters found it thin, mild and forgettable, with a near-absent finish. A few caught musty, metallic or chemical notes. Fine as an easy mixer, not one to analyze.

First of all, a BIG THANK YOU to TheDunderHut for being part of the Wird&Blind set again. Together with DomM they took on this task. Unfortunately there was no unicorn, but we tried some great rare things that are otherwise hard to get hold of. The only thing I really missed were the stories about every single rum in the splitter.

Artur's weird and blind tasting. In blind flight I had no idea what it could be. Slightly fruity, brings quite a lot of sweetness. For 37.5% that's okay, even if the finish is nonexistent.

Weird and blind tasting set from Artur. Many thanks for the opportunity to participate here. Sorry, but this rum is absolutely not for me, despite the low ABV very alcoholic, slightly metallic and a bit roasted.

Arturs Weird & Blind Tasting #1: The nose isn't as bad as the name suggests. On the palate, you're brought back down to earth and the finish – what finish? The "finish" is just minimal.
Review by Thunderbird
For me, this is a rum of the type: doesn't have to be. The nose is still somewhat okay, but on the palate and at the latest in the finish, it completely loses me... only a bitter chemical aftertaste remains.

Now I’m also trying my weird & blind set, many thanks to Arthur. No. 1 is unspectacular. Overall just very thin and unremarkable. The alcohol brings a note of cheap plastic on the nose, very weird.
Review by DomM
On the nose rather musty. With a bit of fruits (green apples) on the nose and on the palate. On the palate with some sweetness and musty notes again.

Interesting blind tasting, trying something you wouldn't usually drink - thanks to TheDunderHut! Light drink, brings some nice aromas - definitely a good mixer and probably okay on the beach, no need to own a bottle.

Plain rum. Nothing bad, nothing special.

Nose: Sour and alcoholic Palate: Immediately sweetly perfumed, then sharp, somewhat bitter and again alcoholic. Finish: Dry, bitter, alcoholic. Conclusion: Rather yuck!
Review by DutchRumPirate
Weird and Blind tasting #1. The smell has something sweetish, fruity. Light pineapple and fresh. Taste: Seems to die immediately in the mouth but later comes to life. Very soft rum. Sweetish, fruity and then you think here it comes!! And then it disappears as quickly as it appears. Finish: very short to not present. Conclusion, not bad but not good either. Not special.. Definitely a nice rum to have tried once.

Weird and Blind tasting @Artur: Chocolate, peach, light (maybe unnatural) sweetness, a bit thin.

Read full review →It's not unpleasant because it just doesn't have any character or flavour to make it unpleasant. If I had paid the retail price here in the UK (around £30) I'd have been pretty furious to be honest. Apologies for being brief but there are only so many ways I can...
