Corman Collins Saint James Rhum Saint James 2002
Most tasters land in the high 8s to low 9s here, and even people who usually shrug at Saint James call it the best one they've tried. The nose pulls people in — cocoa, spice, dried fruit, a bit of glue and resin — and the palate is warm, woody and rounded. One catch: the long aging tips it woody, and a few find the finish a touch bitter with lots of nutmeg.
The community says- Gorgeous complex nose
- Spice and cocoa depth
- Long warm finish

How does Corman Collins Saint James Rhum Saint James 2002 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Rich, woody old Martinique agricole A widely loved old agricole — gourmand, spicy, well-integrated oak and a long finish. The 17 years thin the grassy side, so wood-averse drinkers and a few find the end slightly bitter.

Beautiful complexity, also with the necessary power thanks to the slightly higher alcohol content. Overall very balanced, rich in nuances with both somewhat fresh fruit notes, heavy sweetness from nougat and cocoa, among other things, as well as pointed wood and spice notes. Excellently balanced and for me one of the best St. James representatives.

Sorry for rating, I just don't like sour rums like St James, HSE, etc.

Sensationally good Agricole!
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Incredibly beautiful, slightly sweet, fruity and very well-balanced Agricole. Probably the benchmark for Saint James? Beautiful combination of vanilla, banana pulp, nutmeg and fresh oak with dried fruit. Really, really good. Just a little too much nutmeg & too bitter for me, otherwise it would be 90! 😅

#4th dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: spicy, woody, agricole, baking spices, sugarcane, earthy Palate: agricole, sugarcane, sweet, earthy, Finish: long, earthy, sweet, woody, a bit minty, This is a very good balanced remarkable agricole 🤤 My Prediction: Could be a very nice agricole from J. Bally 🤔 Approx. 45-50% Approx. 10 years of aging

What a nose! Superb, complex, balanced, you could stay there for a long time! On the palate, it's very good and, once again, very balanced, smooth and delicious. Very nice.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A superb Saint James bottled by Corman Collins, who made a very nice selection. The nose is very indulgent, marked by beautiful woody notes, dark aromas typical of the distillery (leather, spices, cappuccino, cocoa, hazelnuts, and tobacco), toffee, caramel, and some fruity hints leaning towards tropical fruits, dried fruits, and banana. The attack on the palate is expressive but controlled. You feel notes of tea, some earthy tobacco notes blending well with the dark and spicy notes. The dried fruits and banana are more discreet, but overall it is very round, complete, and elegant. The finish is long with some currant notes, spices, and roasted notes. A rum that perfectly represents Saint James.

Sensational rum. One of the agricole references for me. It is strong, well-integrated wood, generally very good balance without losing its agricole origin. Long, warm finish. I like it very much.

RumX calendar No. 4. And what a brilliant rum… a thoroughly successful old Agricole! A good dark note accompanies the rum from nose to finish! A wonderful rum to relax with.
Review by Joachim Guger
On the nose oak dominates, spices and fruits. Slightly sour. Very good, round and balanced. Alcohol perfectly integrated. On the palate then more dried fruits and again the distinctive oak. Long, full finish. Craftsmanship-wise an absolute top agricole. A really great oak. But for the highest honors it’s not enough for me. I shouldn’t have tasted it alongside the Seailles...

A very nice Agricole brings the 2nd Advent in the RX calendar. Nose: grass, spice, wood Palate: vegetables, nutmeg, vanilla ABV very well integrated.
Review by mto75
Mega St. James! Incredibly round and complex nose! At the same time also clearly fruitier than what I know so far from the distillery.
Review by RumTaTa
Very exciting nose, resin and glue are the first associations but that’s not all! Palate: Wow this is an incredibly intense and complex Agricole! Very harmonious too, I like it a lot! So far I have only been hesitant to get excited about rum from sugarcane juice but this one makes it easy for me: more of that!

Give this rum some time and you will thank me. An unusually fruity Saint James, very well balanced. I also really like nutmeg, which makes it even better. If I hadn't been able to give it time, it might have landed at about 85, so it earns an outstanding 91. It already smiled at me yesterday in the closed sample bottle. Now I know why. 😊

A proper agricole. A real success. Much more indulgent profile than most other old St-James.
Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
We have a rum with a beautiful mahogany color. The nose is clearly woody, but a beautiful, rich and gourmand wood. It's intense, we also find cocoa powder, orange, spices and vanilla. The nose is gourmand, you dive back in to enjoy it perfectly. This is the typical nose of a beautiful old agricole rum in which one likes to soak the nostrils indefinitely. It's hot on the palate, vigorous, with a predominance of wood. It has body, and we find the notes from the nose (vanilla, dark chocolate, a slight blood orange fruitiness). The finish is long with a slight astringency. Personally, I would say this is the very expression of beautiful and good old agricole rum. It's very beautiful and good (more the nose as often in agricole).

RumXmas 2022 #4 I was a bit late to the party, so no blind tasting impressions. The nose was amazing from the start but it needed some time to open up tastewise. Not the biggest fan of St James so far, but this was the best one I’ve ever had in my glass. After a while the vegetal agricole profile that’s very present at the beginning, becomes part of something much more elegant with sweet fruity tones. Quite complex with a lot of stuff to discover.

Tasted in the Advent calendar and although I haven't really gotten into aged Agricoles before, I liked this one quite a bit. After 30 minutes standing time, even pretty good. The nose was the best part.
Review by Skyfly
RumX Advent calendar 2022: very spicy rum, where even the wood influence appears weak. On the nose wonderfully with dried and tropical fruits, as well as additionally leather and tobacco. On the palate again dark aromas with some baking spices. Alcohol excellently integrated
Review by French_Rhumeur
Very beautiful rum, indulgent, round, spicy, woody. A long finish 👌 A unique Saint-James.

RumX Advent calendar December 4: I like the nose very much, even better over time. Some older, brown mint dominates alongside pear, tropical fruits, wood and spices, especially vanilla. On the palate, for an agricole newbie, it's unusual and very hay-heavy. Initially a bit put off by that, but I like it better over time. It won't be my favorite drop though. With more agricole experience, I might rate it better, but for now I have to lower the average here...

The nose is a bit closed for my taste but the palate is of magnificent intensity. You have to like the woodiness but it is relatively well balanced by the other aromas.
Review by Johnny Rumcask
Unmistakably Saint James profile. A great Agricole: wood, lots of spices, herbs, a certain sweetness and a loooong finish. The alcohol is very well integrated, the nose invites you to linger.

Very nice selection. A really great concentration and strength.

Game changer for me as far as aged agricole goes!
Review by Jarek
Fruity, grassy, still clearly an Agricole. Alcohol mild on the palate but pleasantly warm on the finish. Very tasty and for me proof that I need to revise my rating scale to better spread the 80-100 point range. Addendum: the finish is longer than initially perceived, I've been walking around for some time with the pleasant grassy aftertaste.
Review by Maxence
After 17 years of aging, this Saint James is not so woody. This results in a very elegant profile for an agricole rum with fruity and sweet notes. I just miss a little bit of complexity hence my rating few points below 90. Still a very nice selection from Corman Collins !

Tasted as a sample, I feel like it slightly oxidized before opening. Nose Glue, on models and Warhammer, wet wood, a bowl of white-fleshed fruits that quickly fades, a menthol/milk chocolate combo that comes through on a second nose, vanilla caramel cream, dried fruits, cooking spices (clove, nutmeg, pepper). The nose is more complex and appealing than the palate. Palate Strong oak barrel presence, roasting on burnt/baked wood, burnt coffee to keep mosquitoes away, plum brandy, candied prunes, black pepper, more wood turning into an astringency of unripe fruit. At one point, a scent resembling fresh vegetables just pulled from the earth, still unwashed. Finish Too bad the finish is so dominated by a concentrate of astringent wood juice that I struggle to appreciate it fully. Due to its long aging, the agricultural side and sweetness of the cane have completely disappeared in favor of a woodiness that's too present for me.
Review by Émile Shevek
On the nose roasted hazelnuts, chocolate, burnt sugar, spices, red fruits and some flowers. On the palate again roasted hazelnuts, wood, spices, red fruits and a touch of full-bodied vanilla and nougat sweetness to tie it all together, slightly peppery finish and in the aftertaste a grandiose hint of root/mold/earthy. Magical! In the empty glass roasted, earthy and woody. Thanks to Johannes for the opportunity!
Review by Djehey
Finishing a tasting of the ephemeral rums with the Corman Collins is still nice! It’s very different from the ephemeral ones: there’s less of that woody empyreumatic side but a beautiful sweetness, a candied aspect, and a certain freshness. It’s elegant. I really like it.
Review by Yves Remord
The bourbon is truly present with these well-persistent spices. It's a success that reminds me of the 2003 brut de fut for the Confrérie du Rhum. A Saint James as I like them! 🤘
Review by Barnagricole
Soft entry on the palate. Rather supple texture but not too watery. Tropical fruits, cocoa, hazelnut, licorice, sugar cane, classic spices (nutmeg, clove). The alcohol is well integrated but it still kicks. Finish on sugar cane, spices and wood with a note of licorice and roasted cocoa.

A very good rhum that largely loses its agricole notes due to the long maturation. Still tastes very very good and offers many flavors that are very well balanced and make the rhum very complex
