Habitation Velier Hampden Single Cask Salon du Rhum LROK 2010
Near-universal love here, with the only real debate being how much attention it demands. This is a tropically-aged Hampden LROK: ripe pineapple, mango and banana up front, esters, vanilla and marzipan, then toasted oak, pepper and a touch of olive on the finish. At 63.2% the alcohol is heavy but well-integrated. One taster called the leftover empty glass a joy the next day.

mega delicious. Rum grape nut chocolate with a good bang and a tropical fruit salad soaked in rum on the nose, then more green sour grape & pineapple, cocoa, coconut and candied ginger in the taste. in the finish then a nice velvety mango, subtle licorice and again rum / grape / nut chocolate. very cool stuff!🤘🇯🇲🤤

Very nice single barrel bottling! Great intensity and creaminess due to the tropical maturation. Due to the high alcohol content, not an easy sipper, but insanely complex. Very good Hampden!

Subsequent tasting of the rum from 20.12. from the 2023 RumX calendar: Oh, what a heavy caliber! But really very tasty - a tropical drop to match the (today's) tropical-looking weather. The ultra-strong astringency stands out, but this is a beautiful expression of the impressive fruit aromas (almost mushy fruit, baked apple?), carried by the strong alcohol.

Great vanilla note on the palate, the tropically aged Hampdens remain a world apart for me, especially among the younger editions. Very nice LROK.

A superb Hampden that has everything a Jamaican lover could dream of. The nose is extremely funky, with a good heaviness on ripe exotic fruits, olive, esters, glue and varnish. Pepper, vanilla, marzipan and caramel diversify the aromatic palette of this Single Cask, which is already very pleasant on the nose. The palate is a beautiful aromatic bomb. A lovely compote of overripe exotic fruit and tangy citrus, with vanilla, pepper, marzipan, caramel, toasted oak, olive tapenade and funky notes to round it all off. Very well-balanced and homogeneous. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long and warm, with empyreumatic notes (smoky, roasted), spicy wood and licorice. Esters, glue and tropical fruit go hand in hand to balance it all out. A superb Single Cask that drinks like whey.

A really good LROK! Also clearly above the 'standard' Velier Pure Single 2010 / 11 yr. The high (very well integrated) ABV conveys many more facets.

Rum X Advent 20.12.2023 Great Hampden, great bottling. Strong alcohol but with a lot of flavor power. Good balance in the mouth of vanilla, grilled tropical fruits and citrus fruits. Combined with tropical ripeness and wood influence. Very tasty.

RumX Calendar Day 20 The first idea always seems to be the best. What a great bottling. Hampden can be really multi-faceted. Thank you for giving me the pleasure of tasting it.

A very nice Hampden. Fruity and lightly woody with light spice. Oily and lightly dry on the palate. Love the empty glass even the day after 😊

Very strong LROK that needs time. So spicy that I was mentally somewhere else but of course also a lot of fruit where banana and mango dominate here. Great how complex the rum is. You can totally miss it blind 😁

Remaining sample I missed during the RumX Advent calendar. Quite a treat saved for last. From beginning to end it feels like a Hampden, esters are strongly felt, especially on strong pineapple notes. Slightly soury. High abv, but alcohol integrated well. Nice medium finish.
Review by Christoph
Caramelized mango-pineapple ice cream with coconut flakes is what I want now. But as rum not bad either. The alcohol is wonderfully integrated here and still a nice ester load comes out especially at the back, while the coconut flakes in the finish rather turn into pepper.

Great Hampden I like the mark

Superb rum! An explosive nose that keeps evolving. Fruits galore. Discreet but sensitive esters. Sweet and intense on the palate. Explosion of fruit followed by darker notes. Just superb. I haven't enjoyed a Hampden for a long time.

RumX Advent calendar 20.12.23: Hm, I actually can't imagine Long Pond and Fiji, if at all, only an LPS comes into question, of which we already had a specimen. On the nose, I would have clearly tended towards Savanna, e.g. the Unshared Cask for Germany (I've never tried it and had it wrong once, but learning from mistakes is somehow boring). On the palate then stronger towards Jamaica, especially Hampden in the mid to low ester level. Overall undecided, but leaning again towards Hampden. Alcohol ~60%, 6-8 years tropical.

Starke Einzelfassabfüllung von Hampden. Hier überzeugt mich die tropische Reifung. Sehr schöne Cremigkeit, tolle Fruchtnoten nach Mango, Ananas und Banane. Etwas Olive und Holz. Leichte Säure. Alkohol ist gut integriert.

Calendar #20 / blind My first impression was also Hampden, lots of buttery ester. With some time in the glass, a lot of spiciness comes through (cinnamon, cloves, gingerbread), which I don't associate with Hampden to this extent. Also rosehip tea, pineapple, leather and dried apple. Taste-wise rather fruity towards Savanna. The ester a bit subtler and the spices again in the foreground. Not Unshared Cask Germany, maybe another from the series or the Wild Islands? I like it very much, but it's not something for on the side, it needs full attention and a few drops of water :)

RumX Advent calendar No.20: Exceptional rum from Hampden.
Review by Pavel Spacek
... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".
Review by Michal S
Top-notch rum, delicate aroma (besides the usual fruits and esters also vanilla and sweets) and perfectly balanced taste. If you get the chance to taste it, take it.
