Neisson Rhum Vieux BIO (LMDW) 2016

One taster nailed it: "Nice freshness with red fruits, chocolate and wood." That's the shape of this young Neisson agricole — a bit shy on the nose, then a well-balanced palate of nutmeg, cocoa, light oak and citrus. Several call it the fruitier, more youthful side of the distillery, a touch fuller and less polished than the older brothers, with the 52.3% cask strength cleanly tucked in.

The Neisson DNA is clearly recognizable. It can clearly keep up with its older brothers, but with a little more youthful impetuosity. A bit fuller and less elegant. Already as a vieux beautiful wood maturity, intense, well integrated alcohol. A bit more fruit than some other Neisson. Am already curious how he develops after prolonged oxidation in the bottle. Edit: Now he was drunk before I tasted again.

For a given occasion 😉habe I have undertaken a few tastings with Agricole from Martinique, Guadeloupe and Marie Galante.Today is Neisson dran.Schwer a Dieger of Neisson comparison to make out (RX 7592, 8402, 14424, 89). This one is more on the fruity side.

almost a little shy on the nose, but very nice balance of spices, herbs, citrus, barrel, chocolate. Same on the palate, very balanced, nutmeg, cocoa, barrel. I like it very much!

Neisson

Avg Rating 8.4/10 240 Rums

Neisson is the smallest distillery on Martinique, making under 2 percent of the island's rum, and one of only two still in family hands. Run today by Claudine Vernant Neisson and her son Gregory, it distils on a 1952 all-copper Savalle still, ferments with its own native yeast, and makes what many call the island's finest white rhum. The community rates its aged bottlings among the very best agricole there is.
