Karukera L'Expression - Brut de Fût 2019
Sip it neat and give it air — a few members say the alcohol sharpness fades and it opens up. You get hazelnut, roasted wood, tobacco and dark chocolate, with a grassy, floral agricole side and a touch of banana and dried fig. People keep noting the cognac-cask influence in the wood. Young at barely over a year, but it tastes more mature than that.
- Roasted hazelnut, chocolate
- Mature for its age
- Cognac-cask wood note

How does Karukera L'Expression - Brut de Fût 2019 taste?
Aggregated from 71 community reviews.
Woody, nutty agricole that drinks older than it is Most tasters find it surprisingly grown-up for its age — nutty, woody, balanced, with a cognac-cask twist. The catch: short finish and not the most complex, so a relaxed sipper rather than something to dissect.

For such a young Agricole it tastes extremely mature with abundant flavors! A real positive surprise! Also at the second tasting ... absolutely top and super PLV

Geiles Teil für 55€. Toller Daily-Sipper.

An agricultural rum brut de fût that shows that even with a young age the complexity and the aromas can be there. The nose is very exuberant, between the vegetal notes that bring freshness, the aromas of coffee, chocolate, nuts and spices that give body and the fruity notes that round off the angles, the mixture of flavors is balanced and deep. The attack in the mouth is dry but very round, the wood and spicy notes blending perfectly with the tobacco and tropical fruit notes. The caramel and herbaceous notes are discreet but complete the aromatic profile well. The relatively long finish extends the pleasure with peppery, earthy and toasty notes. A very solid Karukera, complex, tasty and fresh.

Considering the age of this rum I'd say they did a really good job and the price is also really good. The nose is fruity with wood, spices, nuts caramel and a light earthy note. Leave to rest to get the full experience. The palate is fruity with wood, spices, nuts, chocolate and roasted tobacco. The finish is medium to long with wood, dried fruit and chocolate. After an hour the empty glass had a wonderful nose.

V chuti i vůni vystupuje zejmnéna chuť tabáku, oříšků a jemné dřevitosti doplněná příjemným "travním" tónem.
Review by DosenZorn
Tasted as a 5cl sample. An aroma typical of Agricoles, combined with hazelnuts and tea. After the somewhat unspectacular nose, a nice banana note joins the Agricole profile on the palate. Nothing extraordinary on the finish either. Would rather classify it as a simple drinking rum. If you're looking for a solid essence of aged agricole at cask strength, then you won't be disappointed here. If you're looking for something special, then you're more likely to find it elsewhere. The price of approx. 60€/0.7l is nevertheless justified.

My first Karukera and it’s competently done considering the age. I think this used to be cheaper and would be a recommend at around 59€. Now it’s more like 76-80 and for that price just add like 5 bucks and pick up something like the Dillon 2013 brut de fut which is easily superior. Good, but not memorable.

Very nutty in the nose, in the mouth join herbal notes to it.After the first taste, however, I am not yet convinced that the flavor profile is really what for me. Second tasting confirms the impression, exciting, well done, but not quite my case.
