Sip it neat and give it a few minutes to open — the 50% edge fades and you get hazelnut, roasted wood, tobacco and dark chocolate over grassy agricole cane. Several tasters were surprised how mature it drinks after barely a year in barrel, with the cognac cask lending a grape-and-oak note. Fruit shows too: banana, dried figs, citrus. Finish leans dry and toasted, a touch short for some.

8,3:On the nose, nutty with hazelnut, spicy wood(vanilla, cinammon) and sugarcane, vegetal, bump into our nosetrils, with apple pie and citrus fruits, other pastry. On aeration, the cane is flowery and earthy with tobacco.Red fruits arise, some dark chocolate. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is juicy, syrupy with vegetal(tobacco), grassy, herbaceous sugar cane, fruity with banana, dried and citrus fruits, as the wood is roasted with caramelized nuts, coffee and dark chocolate, spicy with vanilla, pepper. 8,4:The finish is long, dry and slightly tannic, with a strong barrel impact and toasted wood notes like nuts, dark chocolate, pastry, baked apple with cinnamon, burnt sugar, the fruits are dried, as the cane is herbaceous, flowery, earthy with tobacco and grassy with hay. Very nutty in the nose, in the mouth join herbal notes to it.After the first taste, however, I am not yet convinced that the flavor profile is really what for me. Second tasting confirms the impression, exciting, well done, but not quite my case.

An agricultural rum brut de fût that shows that even with a young age the complexity and the aromas can be there. The nose is very exuberant, between the vegetal notes that bring freshness, the aromas of coffee, chocolate, nuts and spices that give body and the fruity notes that round off the angles, the mixture of flavors is balanced and deep. The attack in the mouth is dry but very round, the wood and spicy notes blending perfectly with the tobacco and tropical fruit notes. The caramel and herbaceous notes are discreet but complete the aromatic profile well. The relatively long finish extends the pleasure with peppery, earthy and toasty notes. A very solid Karukera, complex, tasty and fresh.

Considering the age of this rum I'd say they did a really good job and the price is also really good. The nose is fruity with wood, spices, nuts caramel and a light earthy note. Leave to rest to get the full experience. The palate is fruity with wood, spices, nuts, chocolate and roasted tobacco. The finish is medium to long with wood, dried fruit and chocolate. After an hour the empty glass had a wonderful nose.

My first Karukera and it’s competently done considering the age. I think this used to be cheaper and would be a recommend at around 59€. Now it’s more like 76-80 and for that price just add like 5 bucks and pick up something like the Dillon 2013 brut de fut which is easily superior. Good, but not memorable.

And lastly, aged Agricole. I somehow expected something different. It's definitely quite woody and roasted, coffee is clearly recognizable, otherwise rather a light sweetness, especially chocolate and vanilla, but also slightly nutty.

A very fine rum that needs a little time to let the alcoholic edge fade. On the nose, it starts off quite sharp yet fruity, with a wonderful hazelnut note and floral aromas reminiscent of an Agricole. On the palate, it reveals great complexity: the hazelnut returns, joined by banana and dried figs. The finish is long and earthy, layered with caramel, hazelnut, and dark chocolate.

I like it a lot, when I want to drink a woody agricole, it's often one of my open bottles I choose. For a BDF the alcohol level remains soft. This rum is young but the micro batch gives it maturity.

Tasted as a 5cl sample. An aroma typical of Agricoles, combined with hazelnuts and tea. After the somewhat unspectacular nose, a nice banana note joins the Agricole profile on the palate. Nothing extraordinary on the finish either. Would rather classify it as a simple drinking rum. If you're looking for a solid essence of aged agricole at cask strength, then you won't be disappointed here. If you're looking for something special, then you're more likely to find it elsewhere. The price of approx. 60€/0.7l is nevertheless justified.

Awesome piece for 55€. Great daily sipper. Super nose and awesome color. On the palate then nice Karukera wood profile with cognac note. Finish relatively short and unspectacular, the short aging shows. I'm convinced and will definitely get another bottle.

A rather interesting Karukera. In taste and aroma, mainly the flavor of tobacco, nuts and subtle woodiness stands out, complemented by a pleasant "grassy" tone.

Really impressive how such a varied aromatic density has developed here after just a good year of cask aging. The youth only shows in the liveliness of the distillate, while the cask influence suggests something much older. A damn tasty rum!

Strong and aggressive at first for a 50 degree, dry in taste but very pleasant to drink. Tonic in length. Citrus and spicy flavors, caramel. As a digestif with a good cigar or dark chocolate.
