Mega tasty, very harmonious, and for me probably one of the best Mount Gays on the market! If not the best of the "Master Blender Special Expression Series." Alcohol perfectly integrated. Flavor-wise, port wine meets dark chocolate, coconut, and banana. Very, very awesome! :) I’d love to have a bottle of this in my cellar. Really good stuff!

Mount Gay in the Port Cask... a nice attempt, but it doesn't convince me... the port wine is present from the nose to the finish and too dominant for me. Also, after swirling the rum several times on the palate, I get a slight iodine-like off-note. Unfortunately, this is not my kind of rum.

Very relaxed and round rum on the nose. Lots of cream toffee, caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla, marzipan, roasted aromas, fruit (banana!) and wine influence (red fruits, berry). I really like it. In the mouth balanced spicy, bitter chocolate, berry/wine and sweet molasses. In the finish more port wine, red berries, roasted chocolate, fruity and vanilla, accompanied briefly by a peppery spiciness. Price definitely too high, but very high quality! Complex and my favorite from the Master Blender series. Supplement: Velier Absolutio is slightly ahead. It is more mature and even rounder than the MG.

8,4:On the nose, strong port barrel impact, sulphurous, roasted oak with leather, brown sugar, chocolate, roasted nuts, spicy with vanilla and cinnamon, dried fruits like raisins, apricots, light esters, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, new wave of fruits arise like banana, coconut, plums, metallic patina, the molasses is thick, candied, roastedness brings marzipan and caramel. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is slightly dry, tannic, thick with candied molasses, dark with licorice, port barrel impact is strong, as its notes intermingle with Bajan markers.The wood is roasted with chocolate, nuts, cookie dough, leather, slightly resinous, spicy with vanilla and ginger, allspice, our tasting buds are attacked with various fruits like coconut, prunes, raisins, dried apricots and berries. 8,3:The finish is rather long, again dry and tannic, with roasted wood notes, spicy, nutty, fruits like currants, berries, raisins, red fruits, vegetal molasses and eucalyptus. Wow, that really is a positive surprise. It's impressive how well the Mount Gay profile harmonizes with the intense influence of the port cask. Lots of heavy fruit sweetness, as well as a pleasantly present toffee note, which I hardly know from Mount Gay in this form and elegance. There is also wood and spicy aromas, but all the bite is removed. Almost on the verge of too much sweetness, but therefore also extremely drinkable. A great release.

Wow, this Mount Gay is really great. Really nice nose consisting of vanilla, honey and chocolate. The palate is also vanilla and chocolate, very leathery and spicy, but really great. Thanks Tim for the sample.

Very pleasing and round port cask from Mount Gay. On the nose, I encounter the distinctive, heavy tones of Barbados, paired with the fruitiness of the port. In the mouth, a chocolaty and very creamy texture quickly emerges, which is complemented by sweet wine and spice. The pleasant 55% vol. ensures a warm mouthfeel. The M.G. port cask expression finishes palatable and spicy with a not quite as long finish. A good Barbados that scores points with its smoothness and chocolate.

I've heard this is the "shit". Very curious about this one. Nose: very thick big dark flavours. Lots of wood. Hint of glue. Cherry. Ok ok. Taste: big flavours alright. Tanninic. Woody. Red fruits. Cherry. Very fruity. Bitter. Warm. Roasted coconut. Some bite too. Pretty outspoken for the almost always gentle Mount Gay. Cool juice.

A refined and enjoyable rum with beautiful balance. Fruity notes of plum, dried fruit and berries meet vanilla, caramel and dark chocolate. Oak, gentle spice and leather add depth, while the Port cask brings an elegant richness. A very good, approachable expression with a pleasant medium finish.

The port cask is hardly hidden and dominates from start to finish. The combination of rum and port wine is really successful with lots of dried fruits, chocolate, and leather. Unfortunately, there are both better rums and better port wines.

This rum has a special place on my shelf. It has a really great profile, a varied nose with all kinds of chocolate, cask, caramel and red dried fruit - on the palate you notice the flattering influence of the port cask. Still one of my favorites.

Mount Gay is one of my favourite distillers and I just need to have their special editions because I know they usually rock. Now I have all 3 of these master blender editions and they're all great in their own way. The nose is fruity and sweet with spices and a touch of marzipan and you can get the esters too. The palate is complex and well balanced with fruit, spices and chocolate. The Port finish also shines through. The finish is extremely long and dry, as usual with Mount Gay, fruity and the Port cask finish lingers there as well.

Very successful profile. Fruity blend (red fruit and chocolate) with a very perceptible port character. My main complaint is that the finish seems too perceptible. We're looking for Barbados... What's more, it's still expensive. But all in all, a very pleasant profile.

Indeed it is a very coherent rum, we just entered the pastry shop of the corner of the street, banana, chocolate. We are clearly in another dimension than the xo triple cask drunk just before but not the 4th either. And of the blow that has to be very good, I find that a little expensive...

The taste remains in memory! Smell okay, finish relatively short and not very present. The Port Cask does an excellent job though. I really like marzipan and dried plum. Overall a very decent and tasty bottling.

On The Rocks: On the nose it has a sweet fruity smell of Port with a mild port sweetness. Taste has a strong spice with leather and an oaky delayed warmth… very smooth overall. Finish is long with a sweet fruit and spicey warmth evolving into a slightly bitter treacle. Very pleasant and enjoyable with lots of complexity and suggested only a sipper at this price point. Mixed Pepsi Zero: Leathery, Woody and Earthy Aroma. Little washed out but mild spice and very smooth overall. Due to the rarity it would not be a good mixer.

The best Mount Gay so far (I didn’t try Madeira yet). Warm, full of dried, and candied fruits on the nose, with plenty esters, and spices. On the palate sweet yet woody, with red, and tropical fruits, both ripe and dried, and even candied one. Dark chocolate, warm spices such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, oak. Finish on rather dry side, with dried fruits, and dark chocolate.

Color: Reddish sherry. Oily with slow-running legs. Smell: At first sweet like toffee with lots of port wine. Mild - the alcohol is well integrated. Aromas of vanilla, caramel, and milk chocolate. Fruity with red berries. Very pleasant. Taste: Creamy and sweet in the mouth. At first spicy-alcoholic with toffee. Full in flavor and spicy-winey with some oak. In the background, the port wine cask is constantly present. Delicious. Finish: Long, spicy and woody with some toffee. Dry in the aftertaste. 86 points

Nose: Rich sweet notes. Lot of cinnamon, vanilla & charred wood. Chocolate. Dark berries, plum, demerara sugar, leather. Palate: Bright & sweet ! Maple syrup, butter, vanilla, prunes & berries. Some chocolate & cinnamon. Very interesting, it's sweet on the start, but dry on the finish. Aftertaste: long. Sweet dates, raisins, cinnamon, hint of herbals & berries, dark honey. Impressive. It's little bit commercial, but still tasty. Very good.
