Medine Estate Penny Blue XO
"Good straight and mixed" is how one member sums up this Mauritian XO, and that fits. The nose leans oak and brown sugar with a little cocoa and spice; the palate is woody with a peppery bite and some fruit underneath. It reads dry and classic rather than sweet, with a short-to-medium finish a few tasters found a touch thin at 41.8%.

How does Medine Estate Penny Blue XO taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Dry, woody, spice-forward everyday sipper Well-liked but rarely thrilling — a woody, spice-driven sipper most call classic and clean. Some find it a little watery and short; others rate it well straight or in cola.

On The Rocks: On the nose initially a molasses smell then a pleasant and balanced fruit, floral, oak and brown sugar notes with some kind of baking. Taste is light on the mouth with an initial strong spice and oak with some underlying fruity notes. Finish is medium length but is very front loaded as it slowly gets a little bitter. Mixed Pepsi Zero: Smells like a little sweeter Pepsi Zero with hints of fruit. Taste reveals a nice shine through of spice and oak. It is a very clean and smooth finish and feels quite light. You could enjoy this either way.

Simple but original bottle, this well-colored rum shows significant aging. On the nose, the aging is confirmed with intense wood, a bit of cocoa and spices, and some alcoholic notes. On the palate, the oak is still well present and accompanied by a spiciness reminiscent of chili. The finish is rather short. It's a rum I enjoyed on first tasting, without being transcendent.

This one is hardly present on the nose though. Some spice is noticeable, otherwise it just comes across quite diluted. On the palate then somewhat better, spice/spices as well as wood and barrel are noticeable.

Tasted at Cave Saint Seurin during a visit to Bordeaux. Honestly, I looked at some comments, I don't understand. For 60€ you get a well fresh XO, with beautiful fruits, a bit of spices (quite a lot of wood, ok). Top, I strongly recommend this bottle!

Very classic, without much craziness, I would surely come back to it but not now.

Citrus aroma with some smoke, clove, wood and some smoke on the palate.
