Solvent and green olive hit first — pure Savanna Grand Arôme — then the ex-Hampden DOK finish piles on overripe pineapple, mango and bubblegum funk. Underneath sit cognac-cask vanilla, cocoa and a peppery, smoky wood. At 58.3% it's explosive but rounder than you'd expect, and dangerously drinkable. One taster called it the best Savanna they've ever had.

❗💥🇷🇪WOW! What a blast, haven't had anything under the nose for a long time that goes in so many different directions... The Jamaica Hampden DOK cask used for the "finish" definitely makes itself very noticeable here and brings a completely new dimension of complexity. One moment strawberry and pineapple, then smoke and caramel again, then some candied apple and grape jelly, then freshly baked brioche with apricot jelly and after a long time to breathe, notes of dried olives, tomatoes, peppers and chili and some thyme join again, underlined by menthol... On the palate similar but not quite as vegetable-like, alcohol content extremely well integrated and dangerously drinkable... an absolute explosion in the mouth! Really fun!🤤 I would have only been interested to try it also without the Hampden DOK finish.

Complex and spicy profile, carried by smoky wood notes and a distinctive pepper spice. The Hampden finish provides surprising depth with olive-like salty note, banana, pineapple, strawberry candies and menthol freshness. On the palate, an explosion of fruit, sweetness and salty herbs that together paint a surprisingly harmonious and lively overall picture. Dense, demanding, but cleanly balanced.

The range of aromas, or different flavor profiles, really has no equal at Savanna. All different - many phenomenal. Besides the classic GA markers you taste a lot of cocoa or chocolate which harmonizes super well in the end.

#6150 27.12.2025 After the sweet run with my friend I need a proper rum 🤣 The sweet rums were actually able to knock my blood sugar into orbit so I have to be careful when doing it. Nose Intense, fruits, olive, banana, light anise, light mint, light floral, light wood, faint diesel, berries. Palate Intense, warm, fruity, light wood, faint smoke, olive, light salt, faint caramel, light floral, faint leather, banana, anise. Finish Very long, oily, intense, peppery, olive, pineapple, light mint, light floral, light salt. Empty glass Floral, citrus, light mango, anise, light mint, olive.

Great Savanna tasting with Artur. A beautiful nose, complex and fruity with a slight fermented vegetal and wood support. You can feel the Hampden side with tropical fruits, especially pineapple. The entry on the palate is lively, the Hampden is quite present. Vanilla and a young wood character. The finish, long, is marked by vanilla and young wood with a very pleasant candy-like note.

Interesting, complex and hard to pin down. Many floral, herbal notes. Doesn't hit my taste 100%, but still an exciting rum that manages the balance between fruity esters and floral notes. Towards the end the finish in Hampden cask becomes nicely noticeable and brings a hint of the typical aroma to the mouth.

Nose: Strawberry Tagada, brine, the base consists of Hampden identity brought by tropical fruits and varnish. You find a woody bourbon side with vanilla, and spices of nutmeg, cinnamon and nutmeg. Palate: Fat in the mouth with aromas of Tagada mixed with passion fruit from Hampden. Finish: Tagada, brine, black olive pit. Makes you salivate.

Maybe the best Savanna ever tasted! The 2-year finish in Hampden casks does not betray the distillery's work in ex-cognac and adds an extra touch of funk. Thanks to Cris Iniacio for letting me taste this 🥹

We get a whiff of solvent in our nostrils, am I at work synthesizing Butyl Acetate or at a rum tasting? Typical Savanna olive, tart apple and fermenting grape juice, fresh mint. The nose is more than promising, I love these solvent scents! On the palate, it's explosive but perfectly integrated. It's even rather round and greedy for almost 60% under the hood! Green olive, menthol and tangy fruit are the hallmarks of the nose. Hints of exotic fruits from Jamaica.

Grand Arôme finished in ex-Hampden cask... what could go wrong? Nose: Yes sir. That's Grand Arôme alright. Funky bubble gum pineapple yoghurt... lovely. Mouth: The story continues, feels like a cognac note shows up, together with a slight sourness. Not unpleasant at all. Finish: Same tune. Very consistent. I'd be lying if I'd say I detect the Hampden finish – think it's more on the nose – but that may be because GA and Hampden are not so different, in a way. I regret not getting a bottle of this.

This Compagnie des Indes is simply one of the best Savanna Grand Arôme marketed by an independent bottler. Its Hampden finish gives it the best of Savanna and Hampden rums. A very rare must-have.

Grand arôme finish high ester, when you like the style it’s a little marvel. Brine, passion fruit, overripe mango, solvent, oddly “quite balanced,” well integrated alcohol. It’s very good.
