Sour cherry, charred wood and a big rush of menthol — that's what most people pull from this 19-year John Dore pot-still Saint Lucian at a punchy 65.4%. Tasters find leather, licorice, dried fruit and roasted, empyreumatic notes, with the cherry running from nose to finish. The alcohol is mostly well integrated, but it "bites little bit," and a few call the woody, bitter finish a touch heavy.

wow. despite the high alcohol content and the 19y incredibly horny fruity and harmonious.cherry, tangerine, allspice, vanilla, pineapple and extremely much menthol both on the nose and in the taste in absolute harmony. in addition, some fig, cherry Hubba bubba and cocoa nibs discreetly with maple syrup and wood and black pepper. If he was a tick less "burnt bitter" and woody, I would prefer but still a grenade!🤤❤️🇱🇨🥂

Hm... how can I put it? Pleasant on the nose, suddenly the alcohol comes through. Continues in the mouth, but then some aromas emerge that I can't describe, but don't fit for me. The finish is perfect again and leaves you wanting more, but this experience disappoints again. Not a well-rounded thing. Strange.

Extremely complex, the high alcohol content certainly contributes to this. Beautiful fruity notes with naturally present wood and spices. To be expected given the age. I like the somewhat younger Chairmans a little better, although most of the bottlings have a good basic quality.

A great rum at the usual Chairmans level and a super PLV! The cherry flavors dominate in combination with other toasted fruits and wood and menthol notes. A little too woody and a little sharp in the finish, which prevents a top rating. Second tasting -1 point.

20.08.2021 Sitting at home with some samples. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Intense, wood, tannins, spices, dried fruit, light glue, light herbs. Palate Intense and warm, light honey, herbs, spices, light medicinal, dried fruit, light mint, light varnish. Finish Long and warm, wood, dried fruit, light mint, faint tobacco, faint chocolate.

This bottling is also very good, but much more fruity on the nose..on the palate there is wood and spice, paired with dark fruits (cherry, plum). This continues through to the finish, a little heavy, but very tasty

I really like the aromas coming out of the glass. Some glue, smoky/charred notes, caramel, a subtle sweetness, spices, leather and dried fruit. Intensely spicy on the palate with some leather.

My second tasting and slightly downgraded. But still a great rum. Very dominant in this rum is the cherry both on the nose and in taste. But you can also recognize other fruits, wood and a bit of mint.

A bottling with high ABV and comparatively high age. Very complex fruity-spicy on the nose. The wood influence is noticeable but quite pleasant. On the palate, there's still a lot of fruit, but the woody note shifts more noticeably to a slightly bitter side. Very mentholated in the finish.

Tasted as a sample just after a Chairman Vendôme. The Stylez is the one I preferred. More fruity (red fruits and cherry) overall, woodiness is well present but more pleasant, with freshness. Long finish with wood/violet/soft licorice. Alcohol very well integrated.

Sacré rhum. Clearly one of our favorites of the day out of 40 rums! Lots of wood, licorice, leather, roasted and complex notes, but also a beautiful side of black cherry and wild berries. Overall, I come from the Gers region, and I have a beautiful Armagnac side.

After-Split-X-Tasting: The aromas are more intense and darker compared to the younger one. The alcohol is still a bit sharp, so in the end they don't differ much. The value for money recommendation would therefore be the Germans Edition.

A true mastodon of Saint Lucia, this rum is remarkably preserved for its age and strength. You find lots of fruit: slightly bitter cherry, orange, lime, banana, pineapple, mango and dried fruits offer an explosion of aromas on the nose. The spices and toasted wood support the profile before a touch of menthol, glue and esters come to weigh it all down. Caramel and vanilla soften the profile. A dense, rich and intense profile. The attack on the palate is intense, heavy on spices (pepper, licorice, vanilla), leather and empyreumatic notes (smoky, roasted). Orange, lemon, pineapple and cherry sharpen the profile rather than round it out. Medicinal and earthy flavors formed by tobacco, esters, tea and thyme envelop the palate with an almost dark aura in the mouth. The profile is dry, tannic but surprisingly elegant. The alcohol is a bit noticeable but remains very well integrated. The finish is long, warm and comforting, marked by medicinal notes (menthol, esters) and herbal (thyme, tea). Bitterness comes with the wood, roasted notes, tobacco and spices. The fruity exuberance of the nose is confined to discreet notes of orange and dried fruits that lighten the finish. The contrast between the nose and the finish is striking and exciting. A heavyweight profile, complex and intense but very elegant, perfect to confuse people during a blind tasting.

Very exciting rum! While in the nose for me fruity and biting notes dominate, but on the palate the age was noticeable: dry, spicy flavors, wood underline what sounded rather light in the nose. If a bit bitey, the 65% ABV delivers a lot of flavor (at least more than the 56% of the Evanius Harris).

Rum Stylez bottling comes with lots of intensity nicely displaying what kind of excellent profile SLD can do. Rather on the woody, dark and leathery side. There is still some funk and tropical fruits on the nose. The palate also delivers menthol and some dirt, providing a nice complexity. Overall a very good darker SLD profile.

At first the most interesting thing - in the taste there is a menthol..like fresh menthol from chewing gum… Nosing- I can smell eathy tones, citruses and mix of fruit with wood. The taste - I have found a lot of menthol - even more than in Trinidad…and otherwise then that licorice, pepper, tobacco and leather..(I thought it will be full of cherries, but it’s not, just little) I really like the end - the taste stays really long in your mouth.. Even if it has higher ABV and bites little bit, it’s worth trying.. but i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone new in the world of rum.

On the nose, it is woody, 19 years of tropical aging, it marks the rum! Very fruity with cherry and citrus fruits, but the main part of the nose is on the woody (see toasted-grilled). It is complex and rich with notes of vanilla and spices. In mouth, we find the fruity side on the citrus fruits and the cherry but as the nose foreshadowed it, it is very carried on empyreumatic notes (woody-torrefied-leather). We also find some bitter chocolate and vanilla. The finish is nice and long on peppery. This selection will please particularly the lovers of the heavier rum.

Tasted during an important line-up, fairly brief notes. Top of the nose to the finish. Very marked by cherry. There is also a nice woodiness and brown sugar. Beautiful complexity. The favorite of the day.

On the nose mint, rubber, polished wood, light glue, dark and red fruits, dried fruits, citrusy bitternes. On the palate lots of mint, dark and roasted notes, leather, charred wood, dark chocolate, spices, quite an alcoholic bite. I don't have much experience with St. Lucia, but this is banger. Layered, complex, lively.
