Chairman‘s Reserve Master's Selection (Old Brothers & Excellence Rhum) 2000
Most tasters land on "very good, but demanding." This 20-year Saint Lucia pot still is a menthol and mint bomb wrapped in dry oak, leather, black tea and roasted bitterness, with pineapple and dark fruit underneath. Give it 15 minutes in the glass or it comes across as harsh and tannic. A few find the wood and mint too dominant; mint-and-oak fans call it a highlight.
- Complex, well-aged
- Menthol and mint
- Long dry finish

How does Chairman‘s Reserve Master's Selection (Old Brothers & Excellence Rhum) 2000 taste?
Aggregated from 43 community reviews.
Dry, minty, oak-driven cask-strength St. Lucia Loved by those who like mint, wood and cask-strength intensity. Several call the oak and menthol too much, and the alcohol hits hard up front — needs rest and maybe a drop of water.

Second tasting and I like it. It’s very different in taste profile and a great and interesting rum. Not for the beginner but educating and a great rum reference.

Intense! Excellent rum, complex and intense. But with two concerns for me. The first one is the woody too present with the menthol which clearly takes the upper hand at the beginning. It is necessary to leave a lot of time for the other flavors to settle down. Then the alcohol is strong, I find that it gains in pleasure with a drop of water. I am quibbling a little, it is still really good!

A highlight from St. Lucia with perfect maturation. To the point. 👌🏼🥃

I compared the three Chairman's Reserve 9Y RA&RTN, the 9Y Evanius Harris and the 20Y Old Brother in a crosstasting. A little unfair to the two 9Ys, but that was to be expected. The 20Y ageing did the rum a lot of good. Very complex but still round and balanced. Very tasty and my favorite in this tasting.

For the price you get a lot I think. Once rested you get a nicely balanced rum with light fruit and nice roasted wood. Intense and lightly dry on the palate.

For me, too much barrel influence with pronounced menthol notes.

The nose awaits with lots of pineapple, cherry, menthol, resin and some nutmeg and young wood.Taste then first really bitter, very woody, burnt and astringent with lots of tannins. When you get used to it a bit cherry, ginger, strong espresso, allspice and licorice come to it and a lot of bitter roasted notes. For me it is altogether a bit too much wood and too bitter. nevertheless for the age and alcohol strength a very good st Lucia single cask. the younger 19y old Rum Stylez I like much better in comparison....

I wanted to explore a well-aged CS rum from Santa Lucia. I’m convinced that I prefer rums between 8 up to 15 years and rather aged in Europe. Let’s see how I do with this 20y 65,1% pot still beast. C: 20y Tawny N: Dark fruits: figs, grapes, overripe super sweet peaches and new IKEA furniture. Incredible nose. Nosing it further I get a sharp fume hiding in the background. It wants so much to get in front of that amazing marmalade. After a while it does, it´s the famous pencil shaving aroma typical of some Guyanese rums. It brings this bitter almond fragrance I’ve a hard time liking. Fumes of acetone as well. M: Big mouth, full on pencil shavings and bitter almond. That sweet marmalade has no chance to get in front. Spicy as well. F: Long, pencil shaving and dark fruits. B: No
