A gift from a good friend! Didn't expect so much at first, but was pleasantly surprised. Certainly on the sweet side, but it's not quite as dominant. Beautiful dark notes: A bit of coffee, vanilla, roasted aromas, wood. However, the price charged for it is complete nonsense: at least €50 too expensive.

A Dominican rum made by Barcelo for the Léon Jimenes cigar brand (La Aurora). A nose that reminds me of a bar in Italy, espresso, liqueurs and vanilla brioche. A diluted but interesting palate. A short finish, but a taste of salted butter caramel remains on the palate. Interesting.

Very sweet rum from the Dominican Republic that hardly convinces. On the nose, sticky-sweet notes of caramel, vanilla, and artificially tasting fruit. On the palate, extremely soft and over-sugared, with hardly any noticeable structure or depth. The 40% feels watery, the finish is short and sticky. Overall, a heavily sweetened rum without character, clearly below what a 10-year-old rum should offer – simply no fun for me.

Typical rum from the Dominican Republic with a very expressive sweetness that largely dominates the body. Very restrained nose, lots of caramel sweetness on the palate, vanilla from the oak wood, some spices. Pleasant.

Read full review →My friend Martin Pokreis brought me this bottle to show and taste, for which I am very grateful. After all those Jamaicas, Barbadoses, Haitis, Navy rums with high alcohol content, etc., one gets a bit spoiled and is quite wary of classic Dominican rums, especially if they have 40% alcohol. Moreover, this is practically the only rum under this cigar brand, so it's hard to say what to expect.
